DOUBLE FINE IS NOT A PRINCE IN FUXKING NIGERIA

THEY WILL BE IPDATING US IN THE FORUMS, PROCIDING US WITH BETAS, AND WE BELIEVE THEY WILL FOLLOW UP ON THIS DUE TO THEIR TRACK RECORD MAKING MANY GOOD TO GREAT GAMES

WE ARE PAYING FOR.A DOCUMENTARY AND A GAME FROM RECOGNIZED CREATIVES WITH THEIR REPUTATIONS AT STAKE.

All caps to help in case you have issues reading.

Dude, I know he's annoying, but please... calm yourself.

They've got my money. Without the slightest doubt. Though compared to the total they already reached, my contribution sure looks tiny :D

No, it's TIM SCHAFER asking us for money. There is a reason people went crazy on this one and not the other videogame kickstarters.

That and Ron F-ing Gilbert just so happens to work at Double Fine. Do people need to be reminded of the masterpieces we got the last time these two guys collaborated on an adventure game? Tim's Twitter handle is Tim of Legend for good reason.

I hope they go crazy with this adventure game.

By the way... what was the most expensive adventure game budget ever? Syberia?

it's too late- I guess Tony Hawk: Ride/Shred didn't help much :(

What did Tony Hawk Ride/Shred have to do with that game?

Edit: Nevermind, I see now. Yikes. Yeah no way... I know that sucks but you gotta go with the truth :9

Now all I need is;
- Obsidian doing a proper RPG
- A gaming studio that can bring back Rainbow Six, Ghost Recon and Splinter Cell to it's former glory
- And EP3 from Valve..

Come on, more kickstarter projects! :-)

I have no interest in point and click games myself but still donated. Between the importance of this model for other small developers (I've already helped pay for Grim Dawn's development also) and access to that documentary it seems more than worth my money.

Now if Avellone and Sawyer do an isometric RPG kickstarter I could easily be tempted up to the $100.00 mark. Really hoping something pans out with that.

Funding a new motion controlled game from the makers of Tony Hawk Ride seems like a smart idea, doesn't it :P

No I didn't realize for a second that it was by the same devs, heh. But yeah man that was just a crazy idea altogether.

Is toymaker a member of the Tony Hawk Ride development team?

It may interest you to know that people in this thread have already done the math on how much production on a game like this would cost based on the required positions (artist, programmer, etc.), average industry salaries, and the estimated development length. They came to the conclusion that a $300k budget was probably lowballing it.

That's awesome! I'm glad there are people who actually did research into the costs. That's all I'm arguing anyways, what are the actual costs they're predicting? I'd like to hear it from them. They should treat this just as professionally as they would an actual publisher.

I'm not against kickstarter, I'm just not for this lack of information. They're not very open about what's going on.

You could try reading the kickstarter page and watching the video, instead of posting here and looking like a fool. All the information is there.

They need to be smart and spread these a bit or they'll cannibalize potential contributors. Maybe March is Obsidian turn? hehehehe

Crazy that with 26,000 sales this game would have been considered a huge flop at retail but is instead the most successful Kickstarter ever. This is a weird industry

dude i know. like, i got this email from a prince in nigeria. A PRINCE! IN NIGERIA!

The fact is that they are not being open with the actual costs that lead them to believe they needed $400,000. Now they've raised roughyl $600,000 more than asked and what do they say that means?

"All money raised will go to make the game and documentary better. Additional money means it can appear on more platforms, be translated into more languages, have more music and voice, and an original soundtrack for the documentary, and more!"

Okay. Compared to what?

EDIT: I get it, people want a Tim Schafer point and click. That's great! I honestly don't think Double Fine is going to scam you. I saw $100,000 for documentary and and $300,000 for the game in the video. That finally registered in my brain 30 minutes ago. That's still doesn't say that "Hey, we need this much for food for the crew during this time, this much for salaries, this for electricity/plumbing/etc." It's just $300,000. No explanation.

If I was a publisher fully funding the development of the entire game, I would want specific details. As someone who is paying $15 - $30, I don't need a detailed proposal. I'm willing to risk the money on his reputation.

Woohoo! I pitched in $30. It makes me so happy to see this succeed.

FYI, Ron Gilbert has clarified on Twitter that this is not the project he's been posting about for a while. What his level of involvement will be with this, I don't know.

Yeah, Ron will just have some input on this I'm sure. But it's cool that we'll have one adventure game for sure, and something else that "will make fans of those old adventures happy."

If they hit a million, can they promise this won't be the artstyle?

People that are contributing are not investors. DF will not share the potential profits of the game with its patrons. This is more akin to pay-what-you-like for a pre-order of a Double Fine game. It's impossible to calculate the costs as the budget is still not fixed. It's growing as we speak.

If this thing winds up with 26,000 sales after launch then I guess you have a point.
People that are contributing are not investors.
Right. He continues to post as though this is some kind of urban-planning proposal that requires months of due diligence instead of videogame fans just donating to a worthy cause.

Yea but this is like fully paid preorders, not actual day 1 sales. Most would like to see a bit more of the game before going all in
