Damn. I loved some of her songs, like I Will Always Love You.
She had a fantastic voice. This is really sad.
R.I.P.

maybe it's coldhearted, I dunno, but I just don't care about celebrities who die from their own choices. It's not tragic. Tragic, are the people in Syria being murdered by their own government.

And your point is? Nevermind the fact that you are wrong(they signed to Warner in 1988, and already had popular mainstream songs like "The One I Love"; also their most popular song "Losing my Religion" was released several months before Nevermind), that doesn't somehow make them a lesser band than Nirvana, just because they weren't quite as big.

Uhm, that was called sarcasm, dude. I was mocking your "nirvana got to the major labels FIRST" because they clearly DIDN'T. REM and Sonic Youth were signed to majors before Nevermind was released.

Go start a thread so we can argue about 90s rock, it will be enjoyable watching all of musicGAF come out and shred you into tiny pieces.

So I also read more than a few places speculating this was suicide

When these events happen (talented celebs dying) it makes me wonder about all the talented people who came and went that none of us ever heard about.

America murders it's own too.

Being a rich popstar doesn't seem to be such a great thing.

Perhaps it is hard to come down back to earth after massive popularity fades and you are just an elder from the previous music generation?

I think Noel Gallagher has got the perfect take on it. Success vs. Fame.

Fame is something that is bestowed upon you because of success. Success is something you have to chase,” he explains. “And once you’ve had success, you have to keep having it in order not to be a failure. In business, you can have one massive success that earns $50 million overnight, and that’s it. You’re successful. End of story. But in the music business, you have to keep on doing it. You have to constantly chase success. The fame you just get. I enjoy being famous, because I don’t have to do anything. I can just turn up at nice restaurants and people are like, ‘Oh, it’s Noel fucking Gallagher. Brilliant. Sit down.’ But success can ruin people, because you have to chase it, and that can drive you insane. You can get obsessed with the idea of a formula, and you start wondering, ‘Why did I sell 20 fucking million albums in less than two years during the ’90s, but now I can’t sell 20 million albums over the span of 10 years after the turn of the century?’ And it’s not like I sit around thinking about that, but it’s always there. And when you start really chasing success, you start to make mistakes, and that’s when things spin out of fucking control.

From what I've seen of "musicGAF"(so cute) I don't think I have much to worry about. The Punk Thread you guys got going here is pretty damn pitiful.

If Seattle was so big, then how come it was already being pushed out as early as 1995-1996? SoCal bands like No Doubt, Sublime, and The Offspring were becoming the next big thing at that time, and nearly every Seattle act was pushed to the backburner or dissolved(Nirvana, Soundgarden...).

Hell, it's arguable Dookie signaled the end of the Seattle sound.

How old are you?

I bet the Jack in the Box across the street from the coroner's office is a zoo right now. I stopped in there to pick up dinner on my way home from work at ~5 am the night Michael Jackson died. Big mistake.

This is seriously some extremely sad bullshit. I'm 27 years old, and I started listening to her when I was 6 or 7. As I grew up I started listening to mostly rock, metal, that sort of thing...but she was still just incredible to me, man. The same way that Michael was incredible. They were both artists who I grew up on.

Bish mentioned contemporaries paying tribute to her, I wholeheartedly believe there are none. Absolutely no one. Christina Aguilera can go fuck off. So can Mariah and Beyonce and Lady Gaga and whoever else you name me. Whitney Houston was the last true bonafide diva the music industry ever saw. Everything she sang was straight from the heart and every little vocal was beautiful.

As far as celebrity deaths go, this is right up there with Michael's.

I think it's best that I end this post on a somber and lighthearted note with these two videos:

Pretty wasted and just found that I now have a ticket to coachella. In 2 months ill be seeing radiohead, refused, the weeknd, m83....in just three days

My 4th time at Coachella vy the way

What a phenomenal waste...

Fuck drugs.

Agreed. Such an amazing talent and voice snuffed out too soon.

Please people-don't do drugs. It's a dark road most
people never return from.

Instead of lighting up a joint or doing a line, hug a friend, tell
someone you love them, adopt an animal, help a neighbor....

Fight the good fight.

Is this a joke? or do you want some rainbows with your unicorns? You better not get near any of my wine barrells for I fear you will take an axe to them.

Her voice has not been snuffed out, it lives on in my music collection. What she was as a person and her decisions in life do not take anything away from the work that gave her success. Much respect to her contribution to music.

sad :<

so effortless
such amazing voice

Seriously. I hate watching the national anthem performed during games, I cringe every time some half-assed pop icon hack strains the piss out of their voice for that extra "soul" effect. But this was just badass. Effortless is exactly the word I'd use to describe it, too.

This is so freaking sad. :(

To be fair, it does look that effortless because it was prerecorded. She still did an incredibly job nonetheless, and it wasn't like she didn't have live chops.

I'm surprised how many people forget how many top singles she still had all the way until 1999.

I was actually just getting a laugh at Enrique trying to belt it out with her.

Yeah...you should be judging everyone on music tastes (it's cute, or rather laughable). Points to username. Dishwalla was a garbage generic band that got radio play in the 90's, yet they're meaningful enough to you to base you username on it..."Now that's what I call the 90's" is not a good compilation to base to your sad argument on.

I couldn't believe it when i first heard the news. One of the few celebrity deaths to actually upset me, and i've been listening to and watching all her videos on youtube for hours now (I did the same thing when Michael Jackson died). I grew up listening to her, still hard to believe she's gone :(

This really makes me sad.

Damn. Youth of today don't know what they're missing. So sad.

You've got no idea.

why is it that tmz gets way better detailed reports from the police, medical examiner and family members over the news???
