Hopefully Valve does not go full stupid with cosmetic outfits like Riot has done. All the stuff should look like it fits to the character/universe and keeps characters recognizable. Too bad that dumb novelty crap seems to be the stuff that sells well in f2p games :/
I'm not a biggest fan of TF2 cosmetic stuff, so that worries me a bit.

It only works for ragequitters and unfortunate DC problems, though.

Had a game yesterday where a teammate picked Riki, despite us having Skeleton King already and we were teamchatting about "we need a ranged hero, with a stun perhaps".

He then proceed to lane with Skeleton King, and he goes for Dagon. No, he was not noob, he just outright told us he was trolling.

So, we need a better report system asap, cause he did not ragequit and as such he had no consequence whatsoever.
I've actually had a guy go Dagon with Riki too, was quite odd. I don't know whether he was trolling (hopefully) or not but he was doing decent IIRC. At least we won.

Ok, haven't had the chance to play any more Dota games, but I have been reading up on it a little bit to at least become a tad more familiar. Also watched a few of Purge's videos, and one thing really jumped out at me on them:

Why on earth is he clicking around on the ground so much when he plays. Call me simple, but if I want my character to walk from one side of the screen to the other, I just click once on the destination, not a hundred times in all the spots between here and there. Is this something that's required to do well, or is this just Purge's odd way of playing or something?

LoL is currently the most popular but it will certainly be given a run for its money by DotA 2. I think LoL is likely to remain the most popular just because it already has a strong foothold and huge playerbase as well as the constant release schedule of new content keeping people excited. DotA 2 will be big because of its legacy attracting many players as well as the different style of gameplay to LoL but we'll have to see what kind of hooks Valve puts in place to keep LoL/HoN players playing.

HoN is the least successful now and will continue to be but I'm sure it will always have some kind of playerbase.

In terms of pure player numbers I think it will be LoL > DotA 2 >>>>>>>> HoN so just play whichever of LoL or DotA 2 most appeals to you.
Ty

What most let me think I'll prefer Lol even after the Dota 2 release is that it appears to me to be based on faster plays (yes, I know... 45min is not like a robot unicorn attack play, but I think it's acceptable).

The huge dota map scares me a bit.

I hope they at least have an option to disable cosmetics for myself, I do not wanna see a Pudge Clown, Juggernaut female or other stupid shit people have bought for 50€, leave it for themselves.

Don't worry about it. The reason for it is to get more precision over your character, and it's something that you'll develop naturally once you play the game.

It's also really normal for experienced players, haven't seen any that don't do this. It's funny though, cause I asked the same question back when I was new, and now I do it too.

Is he clicking like mad all the time, or is it situationally? When escaping, it's always a good idea to click compulsively because a lot of heroes have brief stuns that will break your movement queue. This is especially important if your camera isn't on your hero, but somewhere else on the map and you have no idea what is going on with your hero. Pudge's hook is a textbook example of the importance of OCD clicking. If you click once to move and sit back and enjoy the ride, your hero will just sit next to him after you get hooked. If you're clicking as soon as he's got you, then you'll have a better chance of getting away.

If they stick to what I have seen so far then it should be implemented good, the items really do no stick out so much and actually fit with the characters.

This may not be a big deal to you guys, but i was watching a live match last night. Epic battle was going down, lifestealer infested one of Chen's creeps, Chen teleports the creep back to the fountain, lifestealer consumes and then dies from the tower at the fountain. It happened so fast i don't think Chen meant to do it but it was pretty epic.

They don't have the greatest track record with the stuff they've released for the characters in TF2.

I also hope they delay opening it up (designing of outfits) to the community as much as they can.

I'm not sure if they have the final system in place yet, but the current system for leavers just doesn't do enough to deter that sort of behavior. There are far, far more leavers in my DotA2 games than there ever were in HoN.

Yeah there are lots of leavers but I think that is down to Dota 2 still being in beta so not all the players are particularly dedicated. You get someone with a bad start and they just can't face an hour of losing in a game they are just trying out.

Other factors are that records are likely to be wiped in retail so the abandon count doesn't have quite the same hold as it would if it was permanent and there is no time-out for leavers so the disincentive is lacking for people who just want to game. If there is a ranked mode with ratings and stuff that will also deter people from junking games in the first 3 minutes because they will lose rating points.

Good games greatdeceiver, a lot of up and down moments but overall satisfying matches. I barely play windrunner so I felt pretty good how I handled her. Just angry that we lost the one where I played windrunner against the morphling, think I had phase, force, vyse in 20 minutes and we still lost. >_<

And I apologize for the angry moments haha:p

It is always a bit nice when you gank a guy so much he rage quits. We kept ganking a Night Stalker every time he went to farm the jungle (Got tons of wards up), after like the 3rd time we did it, leaving him a 7 death, he just rage quit, and the rest of the team quickly left after.

I'm pretty sure that CoolHwip is a troll account. There is just no way someone can be so wrong about so many things. At least, I refuse to believe he's an actual character.

Also Swift and I are gonna revolutionize this game with semi-carry Lina and anti-carry/pusher Tiny.

Im guessing it has to relate with tiny's aghanims:)

Damn that's a stroke of genius, you should put that on one of the GAF shirts with the dota 2 logo somewhere

Is there a more annoying hero to face then Windrunner, I can't think of a single one.

Invoker and prophet. Emp and Porting around like a douche.

Oh and weaver

Shackle Shot is so obnoxious.

Second to Tornado only in term of stupidly powerful.

Yeah only if you can connect the shackle shot. You think its imba, but I see far too many players who just do horribly with her. Same goes for emp and tonrado. Missing tornado is definitely a sad sight. And please emp first, tornado after.

nn, nado has a longer cast range by leaps and bounds, and holds them long enough in the air that by the time u get within range to drop an emp, it'll either explode while they're still flying or within ~1 second, nowhere near enough time to run out of the range.

And shackle is horribly forgiving in terms of hit or miss. The search range allows for some pretty stupid angles at which u can latch stuff.

FUCK PUB MATCHES.

Alright so yesterday I played a couple of games. I usually pick my character first and let others pick complimentary pieces...but that rarely happens and we get something stupid like 4 carries. So yesterday I said, alright, I'll lay back and let my teammates pick first. That basically meant going Support, which is fine because I've been meaning to give Lich a try.

I decide to lane bot with Riki. Low and behold, he has no idea what the hell he's doing and this is revealed over the course of the game (as he never mentioned being new). How a Riki goes 1/9/2 over the course of a 40-minute match is baffling to me. He basically had no interest in farming and made his ONLY (yes, only) purchase...a Vlad's...40 minutes into the game (well after any doubt about the game's outcome was erased). I finish something like 0/7/12, which isn't surprising for pure support...but most of my deaths came as my lane mate just watched. The mothafucka actually ran along side me as a Bounty Hunter ran me down from tower to tower on the bottom lane....invisible and with full health. at any time he could have stepped in and distracted him. Nothing.

Few things are as infuriating as a *completely* incompetent lane mate because you can't expect them to do normal things. And him picking a Carry character meant having Carry expectations. If he had said he was new, we would have picked differently. I certainly would have. Or at least went to a different lane.

The other match was a similar rofflestomp because guys were incompetent and didn't speak english (making it difficult to coordinate). I got left in the lane alone. But Lich doesn't need to farm! As my lane mate ran off to do stupid shit. So aggravating.

I guess getting those kinds of games on ocassion is expected, but I just didn't have the patience for it last night...and to have it twice in a row was sad.

I remember one match I had where a Riki insisted on soloing mid right off the bat. Why? Because he "won paper, rock, scissors" with the 2 guys in his party. I kept trying to tell him "Going mid with Riki is asking to get your shit slapped." We still somehow won that game, but the mid was pretty weak obviously.

So will anything change after tomorrow's downtime? (Other than the replay format)

Nothing is changing tomorrow, the servers are being taken down for maintenance. Will still need to wait until Thursday for the patch for the new replay format, which will most likely be in the Test Client only.

lol, i see. and the worst part about last night for me was that I really couldn't learn anything from my time because my lane mates were so bad. I couldn't even call it good practice. It was just 1.3 hours of wasted time.

I really hate how people don't communicate sometimes. There was a Lich on my team while I was Shadow Fiend at mid. We asked for him to get courier right off the bat and he did it. Then I kept asking for wards and he wouldn't do it, while Pudge kept showing up out of nowhere ganking my balls off.

Lich was usually walking around with 700 gold, and I ended up just buying the wards myself because I was tired of being unable to farm.
