How long for today's games going up?
Going to have to wait until later this afternoon/early evening.

If I recall, the EARLIEST I've seen the Store update is around 6pm Eastern/3pm Pacific.
But it's far more typical... especially on a big week like this one... for it to be updated 3-4 hours after that.

does the US vita have cool PS Network profile panels like the Japan vita? :)

the available panels on the Japan Vita are really cool, consists of all first party Japanese titles.
Yes.
There's some basic art and animal ones.
There's also some Sony first party ones.
And then there's some weirder ones like Wild Arms and Rogue Galaxy.

I'm currently using a Gravity Daze panel.
I get the impression Sony North America didn't touch these at all. It's just so weird seeing a host of panels dedicated to long forgotten properties like Wild Arms, Rogue Galaxy and Dark Cloud to support a 2012 platform launch. I don't think there's a single one for Killzone. Very dysfunctional.

Incidentally, I'm using the Gravity Daze panel too. :)

Damn, so at least 9 hours away =(

Commercials about the actual product and its features are so 90s/QVC. It's all about the image now.

I handle the marketing for a $1bn oilfield services business.... and I'll tell you this: Brand image is great, essential actually, provided people know what you are trying to communicate and are conversant with it. History it littered with brilliant brand-positioning pieces that did absolutely nothing to move the dial on sales, because the product in question was not understood.

One thing Sony fuck up on time and again is in simply educating people about the product. Not saying you need a 90's ad with a list of bullet pointed features. Simply that you need a compelling way of communicating what's unique.

At best that ad communicates 'Oh look, a new PSP'

To me this feels like the UK PS3 launch ads - which were terrible.

Blue is Sony's gaming colour now apparently - the PS blog (at least the EU one, not sure on US) has a blue theme, the PS store is blue, the "PS" logo on their adverts is on a blue background, the Vita box is blue, the "PS" button on the Vita is blue...
It goes back a while, actually.

Has anyone who ordered the First Edition Bundle from ebgames.ca had theirs ship yet?

I know its a day early but you'd think they'd make a special effort to get it sent out so it arrives on the 15th. That's sort of the whole point behind the First Edition Bundle. That we actually get it a week early.

My Amazon hasn't shipped.

Very nice. If this doesn't get people interested, nothing will.

Why would that interest me in the Vita if I already wasn't? It's like Sony is averse to making money. Show the 3DS, show the Vita screen not only dwarfing it, but also producing images that make the tiny 3DS screens look like a joke. Show the iPhone 4S playing a movie. Show the Vita playing the same movie on a screen that's as clear as the retina but dwarfs it in size. Show quick montage of Vita's lineup of games. Then have a dog walk by and lick the Vita Chobot-style, and then lift his leg and piss all over the 3DS and iPhone. 18 billion sold.

For how much Sony wants to push digital downloads, I'm surprised to see all these retail preorders here!

I think I'm going to purchase my first round of games physically, but go all digital afterwards. I love not having to go to a store and pick up a game. Grabbing it digitally day and date of the physical release is awesome, and is definitely the future as far as I'm concerned.

It goes back farther than that. How can you forget this beautiful piece of history? :)

I was gonna buy Super Stardust Delta, but since it's free with the launch bundle, I wont, but now I can add a new game to my list.

I'm adding Wipeout 2048 to my list. My Amazon trade in credit is still processing, but it should be $78 when it goes through. I'll be using it to get Rayman, Wipeout, my carrying case ($9.99), and a Hori Screen protector. After the credit, I'll only be paying $8 of my own money for all of it. Feels good!

My games will at least arrive before I get my system, but it's going to be a long week wait once I have to stare at those boxes for a week.

i see, i expected the US vita to have western first party titles

No Western ones.

Maybe they'll be added later. It wouldn't be hard to make the panels. But eh. I'm happy with the selection for launch.

.... ooh... any pics of what these look like?

Sorry, I don't actually own a camera (yeah I know...).

FEB = "Shipping Soon" via Amazon Prime

HSG and FIFA both out for delivery....

IT'S ALMOST VITA TIME!!

I haven't been this excited for a new system launch in some time, probably because the PSP is one of my favorite systems ever.

I'm as happy as a Frenchman who just invented self-removing trousers. Or as happy as a man who thought that a cat did its business in his morning breakfast, only to discover that it was an exceptionally large blackberry.

YIPEEEE, checked my tracking and it showed my 2 games and 32GB were like 3 towns away in transit. Called UPS and they said anything out and about that they had today would be delivered. Now I will be 100% ready for that Vita when it shows up since I got my Skinomi screen protector yesterday!

The one thing I'm concerned about is that my import Vita didn't come with AR cards. Would one of you guys help a GAFfer out and scan the cards to a PDF so us super early adopters can share in the AR fun?

I'll even Paypal one of you 5 bucks for the trouble...

That's where I'm at right now. I got my case and WipEout yesterday and it was such a strange mixture of feelings looking at them. On the one hand it felt really exciting to be holding my first PS Vita game but on the other hand it felt depressing because I couldn't play it.

They didn't have the AR cards overseas? Seems strange.

So I broke down and just ordered from Amazon a cradle and a 32gb card. I plan on going all digital, unless of course I find a game cheaper at retail (like Hot Shot Golf on Amazon - my first Vita game!).

Oh wow! Amazon has all my stuff shipping soon! Can't wait till tomorrow!! YAY!

The Vita is the first import system I've ever owned where I may end up rebuying most of the games I got with it last year.

I got Hot Shots yesterday and switched over to my U.S. account to redeem the online pass. Then it hit me that Wipeout might not work online. I loaded the game up and found the online option greyed-out. Tried downloading a U.S. online pass for the game, but that didn't work.

So I ordered the U.S. version from Amazon last night. I also bought Sangoku Musou Next from PSN, and that will not work on my U.S. account either, so I currently have DW Next pre-ordered for next week. That leaves BlazBlue and Ultimate Marvel Vs. Capcom 3. UMvC3 I have no issues with, but if the rumor that PS3 DLC is compatible is true, I may end up double-dipping to make use of that content. With BB there's also no problems playing online, but I wouldn't mind having it in English for the story stuff.

I don't regret importing, but this online pass stuff in particular really sucks. Anyway, getting a 32GB memory card today. Will use that for my U.S. account and my 8GB for my Japanese account.

Final launch pickup list:
  • 3G First Edition Bundle
  • 2 months 3G data (1 month free)
  • 32GB memory card
  • Vita charge cradle
  • HORI screen protector
  • Vita screen protector (Sony 2-pk)
  • Wipeout 2048
  • Hot Shot Golf: World Invitational
  • Super Stardust Delta + DLC pack (free with 1 month paid 3G)
  • Uncharted: Golden Abyss

Total: ~$505

Bought the two sets of screen protectors beause I want to put one on the back for the time being, also the HORI doesn't get in until Feb 29th. Also, watching the potential of a "spend $50 on Vita stuff and get a $20 gift card" at TRU next week. That could turn into Lumines and something else. Also have $30 in Best Buy reward zone dollars I'm waiting to clear, that could also turn into Lumines. Something is turning into Lumines :lol

thanks for the advice guys. I'm going to just print out the return slip today while I'm at work and send it off tomorrow. they will refund me completely, and luckily I'm a Prime member too.

didn't have time to read through the last handful of pages (I have to gaf on my phone while at work) but does anyone know when best buy will start stocking vita stuff? I would go with the TRU deal but I have a lot of bb gc's.

Yeah, Japan was screwed there. I'm not too concerned though. One of you are going to come through... I hope!

Are they all just standard? Like everyone has the same sets? There's not like something that makes the cards unique to me is there?

Assuming there's nothing that ties the cards to me, and if no one else has done it in 8 hours, and I still remember by the end of the day, I would do it.
Alternatively, you can post a reminder in 8 hours if no one else has done it.

Yup, they are all standard. And I'll take you up on your offer! :)

I will just mail you the AR cards if you want them. :)

AR makes me feel sick, so I won't be using them at all.

Yeah, no AR cards here in Japan. How do you view them, anyway?

Free application from the PSN, I believe.

FWIW - my CC has been charged for my Vita FEB from Amazon, but it also says "shipping soon"

Like Captain N said, I think we might not see that status changed to "shipped" until later.
