Kassian is a big question mark. I'm not sure you'll even have him on your NHL roster in the playoffs. No clue what Vancouver's plans are. Figure they'll have to give him a shot on the main roster right away, right?
If he doesn't play much this season, then I have zero idea why Gillis got rid of Hodgson. He's signed through 2013 and his trade value would have continued to go up the more he played. If Kassian doesn't contribute in the playoffs, this trade will have been a huge failure.

Maybe this trade would make sense in the future. Maybe. But it doesn't make sense to me right now. Can Kassian actually help us in the playoffs?

Huh?

I'm also glad he's going to the Sabres, though, since it's a team I like.

I don't think anyone reasonable ever put Hodgson's trade value close to Schneider's.

RUH ROH, is Socreges securing Buffalo as a second team?

Canucks' first-rounders since lockout:

2011 Nicklas Jensen
2010 No Pick
2009 Jordan Schroeder
2008 Cody Hodgson
2007 Patrick White
2006 Michael Grabner
2005 Luc Bourdon*

Bold are no longer with the Canucks.

WELL THANK FUCKING GOD WE STILL HAVE JORDAN SHROEDER AND NO PICK

Putting Bourdon on that list is not cool man. It's a sad story.

That's what I'm confused about....some people say Kassian has the potential to pan out and be a success but the Canucks window is now, and Hodgson is playing pretty fantastic for his ice time, why take the risk and ship him off if your best chances for a cup will be the next couple years.

You mean kind of like trading a couple of 26-ish prime players for rookies when you have aging veterans on a team? Yeah it's a crappy strategy.

What about Gragnani? Or do I even want to know? Is he even worthy of 8 minutes?

Sabres are the big winners today. 1st rd pick, Hodgson, and even Sulzer is a decent addition.

Well, Kassian is a lot better than Steve Ott will be..

Man, I'm elated. If Ruff puts Hodgson on the third/fourth line I'm going to kill somebody.

That's right. 1970 forever.

He needs a lot of ice time. I really want to see that.

I always worry about trades like this - what's stopping a player who didn't want to be traded, and was, to a lesser team, to just give up? Guess it worries me.

Incoming Sabres GAF trying to justify him at all :P

Honestly, I never saw much good from the guy, at least this year. Last year I was a bit excited on him because he gave us a few games. This year he has been horrendous, cost games, doesn't play good D/is soft as hell, and doesn't own up to his mistakes. He seems cocky/arrogant to a fault. He's been scratched for the longest time. Maybe he'll step it up, but I can guarantee people here are glad to be rid of Gragnani.

Hah. I've always said that I enjoy seeing them do well. Was happy that Ehrhoff signed there as well. They're our franchise cousins and share our Cup-less pain.

The number two spot in my heart will always be held by our Northwestern cousins.

Grags has good puck moving potential but he started to blow super hard this year defensively. Maybe the change in scenery will do him well.

Also Vancouver GAF... one tiny shred of hope. Marc Andre Gragnani was a beast last year in the playoffs. 1G 6A in 7 games.

Not so much this season, but... yeah, that's all I got.

In retrospect it's even funnier thinking about how TSN was trying to make sense of that Pahlsson trade and no one thought to say, "Why did the Canucks do this?"

No doubt, brother, no doubt.

So..... want to give us Hodgson back?

Wait you're saying there are non-Canucks fans who actually LIKE us? -surprised- but yeah, Buffalo is definitely a good destination, i could be more mad.

Only thing i can think of with Kassian instead of Hodgson for the playoffs is that Gillis was scared Hodgson would've just been pushed around and crushed in the playoffs and didn't want that. Still a crappy/really risky trade. Gillis better gives Kassian Bitz's/Weise's spot right away for a while to see what happens.

Dreger:

I missed Burke presser, but can tell you Tor could have traded Schenn,Kulemin,MacArthur and Grabovski for 1st round picks. #tradecentre

Hm, four first-round picks. I would have done Kulemin for a 1st and called up Kadri.

Gragnani was looking like Phil Housley when he was called up at the end of last year and in the playoffs. He looked like our best defenseman for about a month. Then this year happened. I don't know what happened, but he has been a turnover machine. Straight up terrible. As soon as the Sabres got 7 healthy defensemen back, he was scratched every game unless there was an injury.

If you can somehow capture that month-long stretch, Grags could be really good. He has completely lost his confidence here.

BTW, I know nothing about Sulzer. Anything we should care about?

Guys better hope he can get Grabo signed.

that you shouldn't have him and i want fucking cody back.

The NHL trade deadline keeps getting worse and worse.

Been pretty proudly a 'Nucks supporter in these threads in the past. They're well liked in Buffalo in general, based on my personal experience.

Howson: "Nash wanted out"

You're fucked bro! Heatley 2.0 in the summer!!!

I hope the Jackets get absolutely nothing for him.

Depth #7 defenseman. Plays for the German Olympic team, developed in the Pred's system so you pretty much know what you're getting in reliability in the D-Zone. He's not going to win you any games, but won't lose them either.

GMGM needs to fuck off finally. He didn't do a single thing to address our problems as a team. I know the 2C market was non-existent but our center depth doesn't exist. We must finally get a 2C during the summer.
