Nothing will ever top Steve's iPhone keynote. It was just bonkers, and even EDGE 2G and crap pricing couldn't stain it.

So many great moments that seem pedestrian now, but were earth-shattering in 2007:

- Full, properly rendered New York Times website. The full Interwebs on a phone!
- Touchscreen cover flow was just gorgeous, useless as it was (and still is)
- Threaded SMS (not sure if BB had already done this, but this was huge for me, as even my high-end Nokia at the time had separate Re: folders for everything)
- Beautiful mail with in-line images
- Google Maps satellite view...in your pocket

Even without the App Store and Siri, iPhone still seems like it's from the future.

It's true. Me and my mates were gobsmacked. It was a amazing game changer. A true product from the future that still delights and amazes to this day.

The OG iPhone was missing some glaring features at the time, however...especially for cutting edge nerds:

- No additional software
- No custom ringtones (I think?)
- No custom text alerts
- No copy paste
- No MMS
- No 3G

Some glaring omissions...but the delivery system was clearly superior to everything else on the market at the time. I think the 3G was the product that made the iPhone something that everyone can buy into with the price reduction, the addition of 3G and the App Store. That's when shit went bonkers.

I was jealous of iPhone owners to some degree when it was first announced, but when the 3G was available I had no excuse not to dive in head-first.

Edit: Verizon getting cheeky! I don't know why this almost confirms that the new iPad will have LTE support...but it does.

Ha, remember web apps? I wonder if Apple's site still has the short-lived web app collection.

There was a neat NES emulator that ran in Safari before the App Store came along - don't know if it's still around.

You're joking. I had a Samsung Blackjack smartphone running Windows Mobile when the iPhone was announced, and it was incredibly exciting. The section where he talked about how shitty other smartphones were, it was like he was talking to me.

The taskman and stylus jabs really rang true.

But lol Blackjack. Far from a business-class device. Trust me, a 2G phone on which you couldn't install your own software was deflating for certain circles after they got so close to perfect.

I think that's how I feel about most Apple products, though (except the MacBook Air, my current favorite Apple device).

I've never been this hyped for an Apple Media Event. How am I supposed to be able to work tomorrow, while waiting for this? :)

I remember before jailbreaking was dead easy and before the iphone came to canada.

I asked a friend to buy an ipod touch for me in the states and bring it over. then I hooked it up to the PC, dumped the OS, ran the tools to hack it, then re-uploaded the hacked OS image back to the ipod touch. learned a bit about SSH that day.

There was this stupid, geeky pleasure to type in "alpine" in the command line to get access to the ipod touch's file system

playing Lights Off was fun back then.

My expectations are; updated dual-core, retina display, better camera. And that's about it, anything more is a bonus.

Yep. I'll be thrilled if this is the extent of the announcement.

Any kind of new software or one more thing would be icing on the cake.

24 hours people!

The original public jailbreak was thrilling. I remember how easy it became using jailbreakme. That first moment when you added an additional app icon on your home screen was a revelation. If only we could comprehend its implications for the future of the iPhone and mobile tech.

No predictions on new ATV functionality?

What if the iPad 3 is thicker because it includes ATV hardware inside it??

Perhaps you just hook a thumbdrive-sized module into your TV and any iPad 3 can then share its screen. Splitscreen for multiple iPads, even!

"Every iPad 3 will also be an AppleTV."

Boom. Ultimate.

Eh, it kind of already is with the TV-Out kit...

Form factor isn't super feasible anyway, that much wireless transmission and all that at once is a bit unlikely.

I thought there's 27 hours to go.

Anyway, I expect Retina, 5mp rear camera and a dual core A5X processor.

Apple TV3 will get 1080p and 5.1.

That's it, nothing huge for me. But I'm really excited anyway.

Damn I must really be anticipating updating my iPad 1. I had a dream about the conference. There was no iPad 3 reveal and there was rioting in the streets.

One of the best things about these events is how AAPL stock often drops during them. It's often the best time to buy. During the 4S presentation, it dropped to about 360. It was back to 400 within a week, and it's now trading at over 500. Wonder if tomorrow will follow suit.

The ATV refresh will be just that, a refresh. 1080P and maybe a few new partners(Hulu + and HBO GO please). No app store, no major shift in functionality.

I wonder if some of the stuff will be released as a software update for the older Apple TV. If it has Hulu and it isn't available as a software update I'm probably going to have to buy the new one :(

I suspect you're right. They're unlikely to let some other product steal the thunder on iPad day (unless it adds functionality that ties in with the iPad, somehow).

1080p and HBO GO would be nice.

Seems quite a few networks are teasing already:

'New Apple device is coming soon. Interested in a new tablet?' Edit: the page even mentions iPad 3 in the source code. LOL

Makes me wonder if this is launching sooner rather than later.

Been thinking about the name iPad HD, if it is ture i'm expecting apps to run about the same as an ipad 2 for apps in terms of power since the rest of the power will be powering the retina screen, anything above that performance wise is a bonus in my eyes.

I told my girlfriend about potentially using the holy trinity. She called me fucking crazy.

Considering I am upgrading from my iPhone 4 this year.

MBA 13" - 1250
iPhone 5 - 200
iPad 3 - 500

total: ~2000

Yeah holy fuck, I don't know about that...

It's not the holy trinity until you replace that MBA with an iMac.

Tim Cook doesn't want 1.5 weeks of potential sales to go to waste (last quarter, they sold over 1 million iPads per week and over 2.6 million iPhones per week).

The average price a a new computer 10-15 years ago was about $2000. Just tell her that you're getting a bargain now a days.

Ha ha! the work meeting I was supposed to attend tomorrow during the conference just got delayed a week. (I swear, I didn't cancel it myself)

Now I can follow along the insanity with Gaf in realtime!

I'm taking a long lunch tomorrow. Wednesday afternoons are usually light for me anyway. :)

EDIT: of course, now that I said that...

/knocks on wood

I blocked my calendar from 1-2...but I have a call with the field from 2-3 that I'm hosting so I'll probably be insanely distracted during that call and more or less absent on GAF after the first hour.

Stupid job giving me money so I can buy things I want! DAMN IT TO HELL!

I typically just postpone my lunch for an hour for these events. works out OK. Hopefully I won't have anyone come by my desk tomorrow asking questions about work.

I'll power cycling myself back home to make it in time for the live blogging. Still no confirmation it's being streamed right?

I've convinced myself I won't be upgrading to the 3, I've only had my iPad barely 3 months. But the announcement could (and probably will) break me like a cheap teacup.

So if Siri comes, they'll finally have to make a bunch of apps like Clock, Stocks, and Weather. I wonder if they'd save it for WWDC.

Still no confirmation it's being streamed right?

I wouldn't hold my breath. The one time Apple did stream the conference they announced it prior to the conference itself so people could prep. At the end of the day it may have just been a marketing gimmick to increase Safari usage or something. The stream was pretty solid, though.

Wish they would just stream these things live...not entirely sure what the benefit is in not doing it.

...then again, I don't know what the benefit is in doing it for them, either...

I just know I want it, and it more than likely won't happen.

They've settled into a pattern for the last two events. CNN's website will stream it on a 15-30 minute delay (my prediction based on the past 2 events).
