One more has fallen. There are a lot of really good comics out there as long as you don't get stuck in the "i'm reading this to follow continuity even though it looks terrible" pattern...like i do on occasion.
Between "HD" comics and baldur's gate, i want an ipad Xo. Comixology doesn't work well at all on a touchpad. Ipads are so expensive though.
Avenging Spider-Man should be retitled " Random Spider-Man"
I know, I've been fighting this for a while. Last read a comic in the early 2000s after Morrison left X-men (which left a sour taste in my mouth). I kept telling myself I was done and lost interest in the genre, but I was always curious. I would read up on Wikipedia or skim these threads to find out where my favorite heroes were at.
There will be few superheroes if any. I understand they're probably telling some good stories and I see Morrison, who was one of my favorite writers back in the day, is doing quite a bit with DC, but I just have little interest in it. I was a huge X-men fan and primarily a Marvel reader. I did the 30 day trial for Marvel a few months ago and the only new thing I read that I could tolerate was X-Force and barely that.
Not to sound pompous, because I'm really not, but spending the last 10 years reading books, watching incredibly good television and becoming a huge film snob, it's hard for me to read something that goes on and on without ever stopping, changing artistic teams, quality going up and down...just don't want to do that. I'd rather read a series with an end in sight and probably will stay away from superheroes.
That said, if I read any superhero it would be Batman. I always loved the character and wanted to read him, but DC comics were rare in my hometown growing up and to make matters worse we had a hardcore anti-DC mentality.
protip - just read trades. Monthlies are for suckas (like me). You can then find out what books are actually good before getting halfway through an arc and realising you hate it.
That's the plan. Plus, I can't believe monthly issues are starting at $3 now. I feel old in when I started they were $1.25. Six comics is a tank of gas.
Then again, back in the early 90s six comics were still 3/4 of a tank of gas.
But yeah, I see that tpb schedules are more hardcore than when I read - used to be six months sometimes before they came out, if not more. And the prices seem to be incredibly reasonable: I walked into the local comic store, first time in nearly 10 years I stepped foot into a shop, and bought the first three issues of NORTHLANDERS for $10. Then I found out the fucking trade that collects the first 7 is $10. :/
I have zero interest in
collecting anymore. I have two longboxes back home (2000 miles away) and besides, I don't want to see the look on my wife's face when I bring home a long box. She already looked like she accidently married an Asberger's sufferer when I brought home the Northlanders.
