I don't quite understand what's going on with that series of images. Is that the original on the right? Why are people upset that there's a callback to the original?

Because the one on the right isn't the original or even saint seiya related

Is that Ronin Warriors? Never watched that one

Long time ago, when the original Saint Seiya exploded in japan, lots of animes and mangas about "tokusastsus with armors" appeared, including stuff like Shurato and Samurai Warriors, wich is the one in the right.

But the images on the left are from the first time that he uses the armor ... i doubt that it will repeat itself.

Not it needs a Shurato trowback xD
god shurato had some BAD designs hehe

Hello all. I've never see much of Saint Seiya. Do I need a lot of prior series knowledge or can I just jump into this one?

I would highly recommend long time saint seiya fans or anyone looking to get into the saint seiya franchise to check out saint seiya the lost canvas ova over this travesty, it's a prequel story but you don’t need to watch any of the original to enjoy (similar situation to fate zero), even with the original being a big part of my childhood I can say lost canvas is even better than the original.

The ova is 26 episode , season 2 only came out summer 2011 so it’s not that old

-tons fabulous Gold saint action, with the god saints receiving lot screen time, back story and a large role in the war against hades,

-legendary gold saints of the past and saints of the original make an appearance like aries shion, lipra dohka, all the gold saints are far more badass and smug then in the original.

-tenma isn't whiny annoying brat like kouga

-still has pandora's boxs :)

-it still has armor porn like the original

Fans love the original 12 gold saints, but Lost Canvas has the best rendition of Cancer without a doubt:

I know it's been said before, but damn is Kōga a whiny punk-ass bitch. Midorikawa's voice isn't helping either.

Oh great, they threw elements in the mix. Now it's a real shōnen show. I wonder what Kōga's elemental disposition is ;//

Just watched episode 2. I'm not sure I like that they're gonna be playing Pokémon with the Saints. I'm not feeling these changes to the mythology *sigh*.

I liked Söma because he's the opposite of Kouga. Was that Saint (Mantis? My japanese knowledge is non existant and that's the only thing I got from him lol. He also reminded me of Crow Jamian) a minion of Mars? Did the Masked Saint from the opening killed him? It seems she killed Söma's family too. What happened to Saori? Is Shaina "cursed" too?!
Too many questions!

OMG this gif seriously made me start watching Lost Canvas, my favourite Saint is Deathmask. I'm up to episode 6, Pisces no Albafica is SO much cooler than Aphrodite. I'm excited... Cancer Saints ftw! (I'm a Virgo btw but I never liked Shaka all that much)

Episode 2

The complaints I have about the first episode are still very much present in the second one. Looks like they're going for straight traditional by-the-books slownen here, but that makes sense given the franchise and the time slot. Ep2 is basically one long drawn out introduction episode for the next bronze saint, and a short introduction of the new enemies we can expect from the series. I really find it hard to pay attention much during the show because it bores me a lot. The art is still pretty good though. There are lots of great background shots in this episode, which were really detailed. The fight this week just plain sucked. :(

My thoughts are pretty similar to duckrolls, but I don't watch shows like this very often, so I can still enjoy them when I do. The background art really was gorgeous at times.

From the preview next episode, why do female saints all wear masks that cover their entire faces, while the male saints don't?

Episode 3 should be pretty good; Rie Matsumoto is doing the storyboard and directing. Episode 4 has Terumi Nishii as AD, too. Shame that with episodes 5 and 6 we're getting into LOLTOEI territory...

Yes; the story is basically that Yuna doesn't think that's fair and stuff.

Ah, that's good, I'm glad they're going to address it, since it just seemed so weird to me.

I didn't think the first episode was slow. They reintroduced some concepts of the original series, but that was necessary to make this work as a standalone product. There wasn't a lot that could have been skipped there. On the other hand, this second one could easily have been done in half of the time at least.

At least this episode showed they aren't afraid to kill characters. On the other hand, the Saints themselves didn't kill him. I really hope they won't pull what many shounen manga do nowadays and show the main character avoiding killing - but making the antagonists die from unrelated causes right afterwards, if the story needs them dead.

Well for episode 2 Souma is really cool and I guess glad the second one on Kouga's crew. They really get along great but it seems like they made Light way more powerful than him. Enjoyable.

I maintain Kouga is a much more interesting character than Seiya because of his whine.

I didn't think it felt drawn-out at all. While it's very much by-the-books (one character debut per episode) it's still doing some necessary character-building stuff for Kouga. It's a much more interesting first arc than "hurdur here's the galaxy tournament watch how all these fuckers you don't know anything about knock the brains out of each other" from the original series.

I honestly don't remember how was Seiya at the beginning of the original series, but I'm already liking Souma much more than Kouga. I never liked Seiya much either, the main characters in this series are not quite as likable as their companions, main character < Main character bros < Gold Saints

So, this new episode... Am I the only one thinking that this journey format is going too slow?

I thought the first episode was nicely paced, but the second episode could have moved a little faster... however, since episode three will introduce a number of new characters and a new setting, I don't think there's much to worry about yet.

I'm reading ducky's complaints and I'm thinking hmmm. Isn't this series going to be a lengthy one anyway? This pace is making sense thus far, I'm not to thrilled about the main being so whiny myself. I did like when Leo knocked him out by accident. I also like Leo's henshin scene more too.

Kouga's transformation was different this episode as well.

Any confirmation out there on it being fifty episodes long?

More like, is there any confirmation that it isn't, since this is Precure for boys, and the answer is no.

The Brazilian leak had a 50 episodes outline for the show and it has been correct about many things so far. On the other hand, some details from have changed already even in these initial episodes, so it isn't a complete confirmation.

i really hate how the bronze cloths cover them to much, i can understand the pegasus and dragon but the rest are supposed to be mere bronze cheap shit cloths.

I saw a 52 episode outline though... seems accurate.

Apparently the reason the god of war is called Mars is because there was already a character named Ares in the original series, but he was the former Pope or something, I'm not sure.

I would be interested to see the brazilian leak ....

Also ... guys ... guys !!!!!

HOW AWESOME would be if they are like suffering to beat a bad guy .. and then SUDDENLY a flash in the screen, the bad guy is beaten to almost death and ... then ...

STEEL SAINTS !!!! =O

I mean ... right ? =D
Guys ?
.....guys ? =x

I always feel that their design had some "megaman X" feel to it.

But theoricaly for everyone hating then, they never showed then getting killed or anything simply because they were insanely ignored ... so would make sense for then to appear on Omega ... even if to finally get the "Steel Saints brutaly killed" that most fans hopped to happen in the original anime =P

Episode 3 is definitely the best episode so far. The animation wasn't as good as in episode 1, but the direction more than made up for it. Excellent use of coloring and inspired scene composition. The way in which Rie Matsumoto used Palaestra's design kinda reminded me of that one Mamoru Hosoda's Nadja episode. The Yamauchi inspiration in the flashback was also very well-done.

Episode 3

Okay, this is more like it. I stand by my criticisms of the first two episodes. They felt restrained, and the padding made the episodes less interesting. Episode 3 feels mostly free from that, and they weren't afraid to introduce multiple characters and expand on the setting at the same time. I really like the way the episode was directed and paced, and the use of action in the episode was actually very effective in introducing the new characters and their personality through combat, which is something I felt ep2 really didn't do successfully. Ep3 managed to develop Yuna as character more than ep1-2 did for Kouga. Lolz.

I love the background art in this show:

Quick Question: Is this show to someone who's a complete newbie to Saint Seiya (I think I've seen all of two episodes in my life)? I caught the opening to Omega on the youtubes, and it looks like it'd be right up my alley.

Should be fine. The new series is meant to be accessible to newcomers, even though it's set "after" the events of the "previous stories" in terms of characterization. New generation, new threat, etc.

This is promising, I was worried they might take the route of introducing one character each episode in the early going.

Well, they're still doing that, but what's important to me is that ep3 was not an episode where they meet just Yuna and no one else, and hang around for 20+ minutes doing nothing but "getting to know each other." Instead they also introduce supporting characters, a new setting, and basically the show is able to breath more easily this week imo.

Yeah I get that, I meant like each episode would be similar to episode 2 where it was just introducing a new character with very little else happening.
