I love how everybody points the the Spurs as if converting late draft picks into all-stars year after year is a real strategy and not a outlier caused by exceptional coaching/scouting that no other team has access to. There is only one Gregg Popovich fellas.

You know whats a consistent strategy? Getting a superstar every odd year because the weather is warm, the cap rules are broken, and sign & trades enable stars mobility that bird rights try to avoid. Any bozo can manage a team like that to success. Hence 17 championships.

Does Laker age really want to go down this path? We've had this argument before and its been silly lopsided every time. The Bobcats have immeasurably worse chances than the Lakers every year. A championship by a Bobcats team would be more impressive to me than 10 Laker championships. The playing field is not fair, the competitors are not equal. aka the league is rigged. Not staged, but definitely rigged.

if you don't tank for Duncan, all those late draft picks and all stars don't mean shit.

Ok, be honest.

If that same play happens and involves another player not named Ron Artest and/or MWP and he doesn't play for the Lakers. Would you be enraged like that? Probably not.

Your guy Love got 2 games for Ndamukong Suh-ing Scola and there was hardly any outrage and certainly not from you.
I reamed Love for that incident. I am big on suspensions for players who are out of line with their actions.

I am not a homer.

Which is precisely why the NY Knicks have been the laughing stock of the league and haven't won a chip in any of our lifetimes.

The biggest fucking market in the country.

Because the league clearly favors larger markets.

Oh I forgot, the league is clearly rigged only for the Lakers, even in the years they lose.

I don't know why you keep pointing to results.

The results say that the Boston Celtics and the Los Angeles Lakers have a combined one million championships and the rest of the league has nearly none.

I told you that the league isn't staged, just rigged. I don't think David Stern sits in a room thinking exactly how he will frame a storyline that will lead to a New York championship. But the rules still favor them. Its not the system's fault that they had Isiah fucking things up for damn near a decade. Its still possible to lose as a big market, and still possible to win as a small market.

Its just easier as one and harder as another.

...and now that you've got it out of your system, please stfu already, Justin. You are almost as annoying as that asshat, Crimson Blur.

http://www.nesn.com/2012/04/report-dwight-howard-will-ask-magic-to-trade-him-during-offseason.html

"The minute this season is over, according to what I am hearing from his camp, you can expect Dwight Howard to tell Orlando, 'Get me out of here. I don't want to be here any longer,'" Smith said. "You've got Stan Van Gundy annoyed with the organization. You've got Dwight Howard disgusted with the organization. The way he's been treated, along with the way his teammates have been AWOL on him as far as he's concerned. You've got a problem." Smith went on to say that he's also heard that Howard is upset with the overall treatment he's received from the organization, which includes talk of giving the Magic center a flight on a discount airline when he had his back surgery. "He feels as a superstar, he's been treated as a scrub," Smith said.

because "We will do anything to keep you here" is being treated like a scrub

that organization is a mess though.

These "big market" teams win cause guys want to play for them. Kobe forced himself self to LA and Shaq went on to sign with them. The city itself plays a huge role - whether its their storied history (Lakers, Boston, etc.) or because it would be a nice place to live and party (Miami).

But then you got teams like the Spurs that show you competent GMs are key to making successful teams too. So many GMs make sign player to desperate ass contracts (Lewis, Johnson) that destine them to mediocrity. Even if they get rid of the contract, they are still stuck with garbage replacing the initial signing.

I don't think the league is rigged. There are a lot of problems with the league (flopping, how soft they are making the game, whistle-happy refs, etc.) but being fixed is not one of them.

Did the 5pur5 somehow beat the rigged system?

How about the Pistons?

The Bulls?

I mean, the league, clearly favors the Lakers over everyone else. Everyone was pissing and moaning over the Gasol trade (how much of a fleecing it supposedly was--BEST Gasol says hi) but ignoring the Czzz pulling an even worse fleecing.

Guess what? The same rules apply to all teams, just like the MLB. Difference is, smaller teams still win, within those rules:

White Sox
Marlins (2)
Diamond backs
Cardinals (2)

Did those teams "beat the rigged MLB" even though the same fucking no salary cap rules applied to them as well?

Why were the Royals (Bobcats) still shitty no matter what the CBA rules were? How did that happen? Because of the big bad, mean rules?

Lakers have the benefit of location and history but guess what--all those rules applied to all 30 teams in terms of salary.

People like TCB/JustinTimberlake just want you to believe that every time the Spurs win a title, they are overcoming the odds thanks to the brilliance and genius of Greg Popovich, meanwhile if the Lakers win one its dumb luck and the result of NBA rigging.

Thank you.

The Steelers (in their small market) beat the odds every time they chip.

Green Bay too.

Allan Houston: Shot Whisperer

Fields has been working with assistant general manager Allan Houston on his oft-wayward 3-pointer and mojo. Houston is probably the greatest pure shooter in Knicks’ history.

"It’s moreso being ready and confident,’’ Fields said. "There was ... mechanical stuff we worked on. But [he wants me] to remain aggressive. You can’t make shots if you don’t take them.’’
Fields has his best game in weeks shortly after. Keep doing work, H20.

Comparing the NFL to the NBA is lolz.

you know that

My point remains that, the same rules apply to all teams in the NFL. These "poor" small markets like Pittsburgh and Green Bay beat the rigged league that clearly favors the Cowboys and Giants.

Just like the 5pur5 beat the odds 4 times in 10 years.

Clearly.

What a dumbshit. He should have got his trade when everyone thought he was healthy. Now he's going to have no leverage for a trade and people will be weary of committing to him because of his back.

He could get microfracture today and I think teams would still sign him to a max deal next season when it expires again

As for trade chips...yeah this may fuck up things a little

yeah all this "lakers are favored" stuff is bullshit. It's kind of like how people thought the Heat didn't play by any rules or somehow got around it last offseason

No, no, no its not dumb luck. Its a very systematic advantage being taken to its full fruition. While most of the league waits and waits in lottery hell for their one superstar of the decade, teams like the Lakers get stars handed to them, often WHILE they are competing and in the playoffs.

Its folly to think that all championships are created equal and that all roads have the same difficulty. Thats why some people are already invalidating the Miami squad; its almost TOO easy, kind of like Shaq/Kobe, Magic/Kareem, etc. Its superstars coming together in a big market because the system allows them to, and using the opportunities provided by a soft cap system to abuse revenue differences between large and small market teams.

The new CBA balances a lot out though, so I think the people at the top know the problem. Its not perfect but man am I excited for a new era of basketball.

The NFL is configured almost completely different. Apples and oranges.

Yeah, but having Robinson/Duncan/TP/Ginobli plus role players like Horry and Bowen...we should fucking ignore that shit.

You are the fucking worst.

Those 5s will mean something entirely different in a few months

:D

Yawn...you said this same spiel last year.

Next.

The Lakers don't get "stars" handed to them. They just happened to get two of the baddest motherfuckers in basketball history to play on one team in a decade...via free agency and the draft. Kind of how the Spurs lucked into Duncan. Cause seriously dude if you won the lottery a year later you'd have the Candy Man as your franchise player...so your 4 rings have just as much "Luck" as the Lakers rings

He loves ignoring the 5pur5 tanking for Duncan but tries to shit on Kobe going (@ 13) to the Lakers.

Lakers really took advantage of the system by trading for the 13th pick in the 1996 draft and legally signing Shaq who had a desire to play for L.A.

And having Smush Parker as the starting PG in LA for 2 years.

And Kwame @ center.

We were gaming the system back then, getting players for free!

Yeah. Lets do that. Lets compare the Spurs getting absurdly lucky and landing a top 5 player of all time to how the Lakers got Kobe. How did that happen again? Wanna go through that draft again? What were the predraft conversations? OK, how bout Magic? Shaq? Kareem? How'd the Lakers get those players exactly?

Whatever, I'm done with this.

The small market fans know I'm right, and the large market fans probably do too, but would never admit it because its an affront to their fandom and tarnishes the legacies of the players they adore. We'll never agree on this.

what the fuck?

The Lakers' tanked or cheated to get a guy that no one knew he was gonna be this good at 13 in one of the strongest drafts of all time?

So basically it is unfair that the Lakers were lucky?

I don't even like the Lakers but c'mon bro that is some weak shit.
