Am I somewhat correct in assuming that crafting is kind of like a new take on the gamble system from Diablo 2?
By which I mean that there are several outcomes for the items you craft?

So did they fix the achievement thing while I was asleep?

What was/is broken with it?

Yeah, you pick an item and when you craft it the game will randomly generate the stats (from a predefined pool I assume). I haven't actually crafted anything yet, honestly not sure what I should be crafting.

Without stacking vitality my barb died from 4 hits. They come in packs of 6+...

Yeah, crafted items get random stats.

And achievements get occasionally rolled back for some reason. My barb is in NM without the normal completion achievement.
 
I have a question about the Guest Pass thing. If I play a character with it will I be able to continue my progress if/when I buy the game?

Demon Hunters couldn't earn achievements. Or at least a lot of them. Blizzard acknowledged the problem.

But I just logged in to test and immediately got two achievements for equipping certain types of loot, so yeah, fixed. Unfortunately, it isn't retro-active, so all the achievements I would have earnt so far aren't unlocked. Tonight I shall finish up Act 1, then delete my character and start again. I missed quite a lot of Leah's journals, too, so I don't mind.
 
I'm level 16 and still in Act I, not sure if I'm overlevelling but I'm rolling over shit (leap + ground stomp + rend) with little trouble at the moment.


Yeah, the active skills unlock at the set levels whether you're in elective mode or not.



Oh, you're not even fully in game? Have you tried using the cursor keys or tab to select one of the menu options (just trying to login now so I can test this out).

EDIT: Looks like that doesn't work. :(

EDIT2: Have you tried changing the "DisplayModeWindowMode" option in D3Prefs.txt (should be in Documents\Diablo III)? Mine is set to 2 at the moment, fullscreen windowed mode.

I've tried 1, 2, and 3. 1 I could see the mouse a little and could get to the graphics menu but can't seem to get it to click where the boxes would drop down. Thanks for helping though.

Ah. I was thinking it might be people actively griefing other players by forcing deadly situations on them.

Haha man, with lag causing enemies to basically teleport that sounds like it'd be nightmarish on Hardcore.
 
Is anyone else getting disconnected every five minutes? 316407 and 3007 errors? God damn! :(

All my map progress is completely wiped and all maps including the one I was in are re-randomized every time! Is this normal?

Like, even when the game is 100% stable; are maps/dungeons supposed to get re-randomized and wiped clean every time you log off and on?

When I played last night the game was running well enough, but there would have been moment when my heart would have been in my mouth on HC (there seemed to be lag on Ground Stomp). I don't think I'm going to dip my toes in that until I know the game a LOT better and the performance smooths out.

Yep, ditto. Hardcore is a treat and adds a huge amount to the game, but I'm not touching it till things are more stable. I can only imagine the aggravation if I perma-died to something server-related.
 
I just noticed that the "mature language filter" is STANDARD ON. Funny. Turned it off now, I can take a little bit of trash talk.

EDIT: I even got steam overlay to work and it runs smoothly and starts mostly without errors now, SWEEET. (Sometimes I have to manually start agent.exe first, but w/e)
 
I just realised it starts you at your last checkpoint when you quit regardless of where you log out. I finished up last night by going back to town through a way point (didn't want to quit until I had found one) but when I logged in this morning I'm back at my dungeon location. Which is nice. :)

At least I know I can just log out when I hit a new level in future.

What? No they're not. It's just not immediately obvious what options you have in Diablo 2 and it doesn't allow you to switch on the fly, so you get to see more of the viable options in a short period of time in 3.

Yes, they are.

D2's stats may as well not be there, because there is a "correct" way to do them that if you don't do you're an idiot.

And the skill trees are hardly that, at least on Normal. It's so restrictive and anti-experimentation. The most viable builds are those that just pick one skill tree, and very specific skills from that tree at that.
 
So, are achievements safe to get yet, or are they still disappearing?

The Jeweler/Smith is shared between characters right? Doesn't that mean you could potentially be locked out of an achievement if you attain it after the achievements get reset? (This is assuming they are unrecoverable and that you have to redo them to get them)

I know it's not required, but spoilering stuff like this would probably keep me from sacrificing effigies in your likeness at my chicken-blood covered, voodoo shrine. Well, at least for a little while.

Just sayin.
