3DS XL First Impressions/Previews

£160 at Sainsburys online is a damn good price, considering the 3DS standard is still £130+ in retail stores.

I'll be trading in my old 3DS which cost me £70 preowned anyway for £70 credit at the Blockbuster store I used to manage, and I'll use that to get Mario Kart, Revelaitons and Kid Icarus (girlfriend works there, 20% discount ftw). Oh and if you're the guy I think you are, it sucks that Game/Gamestation have shut down half their stores - Bournemouth is HORRENDOUS for games now that they're both gone. I'm talking £39.99 copies of Pilotwings Resort levels of bad. HMV with their shitty prices (like that pilotwings, jesus fucking christ), or CEX with their crappy, shitty range of shit games.

Yeah, that's me. :) Sadly I am still out of a job and am struggling to pay rent at the moment. The XL looks so much nicer than the standard 3DS, but I find that I never use it all that much. If I still had my job at Gamestation I would trade it in for an XL in a heart beat. I'm thinking of just trading my current 3DS in for cash at the moment and picking an XL up once I get into another job.

That's pretty terrible. My previous town still has a GAME. I've moved away since we shut down and my current town of residence had their Gamestation closed too. It's quite sad. The GAME here has some very friendly staff though. I notice they're still pushing KPI's and killer questions, but they're nice enough.

If the 3D effect is better on the 3DS XL, then that would likely mean that the crosstalk isn't such a big area as shown on the picture.

Wait... people already have unboxing videos? Damn it! Ya know, if Nintendo wanted to really make me feel like an Ambassador, they would have let me have a first crack at it too!

Shit,must realised I'm on holiday then too. I'm thinking to trade in the kids' ds lites. I'll only get £30 each at HMV but that's still £60, making the XL more like £100 which is palatable.

Not all people have online though. Making it an optionable buy and then saying that it's similar to the manual of the 3DS is no option either.
Edit: And a download does not appear to be enough in some countries in Europe, but it's not entirely clear.
 
I wasn't too thrilled about this when it was announced but after watching the video comparison and playing a bit of my launch 3DS it would be great to have larger screens. Also, seeing as it's about the size of the Vita screens this is really great. Guess my son will get a 3DS sooner rather than later.
 
Still mad about NA getting this 3 weeks later... I want it now! :p

There was one for the original 3DS and for other DS's... I'd be very surprised if there wasn't one.

The way I read it there's crosstalk if you look at the edges of the screen instead of the center? Or something.
 
Got over the color issue quick. The improvements are too substantial for me to wait. I can always put a skin over it if I want to. Altough, I think I'm going to warm up to the red one as soon as I hold it in my hands.
 
After reading that Eurogamer preview, I'm worried about screen brightness. I hoped that the screens would be brighter :(
 
I was going to wait for White to come to NA but real pictures of blue sold me. I think that color looked fantastic. Still need to see red though, and silver bores me to death.

Besides, all you're going to see is black while you're playing anyways. :p
 
I don't understand why the red version isn't more polpular. It's Mario red damnit :D

The 3DS in red may look like a toy, but hey , that's a good thing afaic.
 
Why does everyone keep insisting that nintendo should have put on a second analog stick on the XL? Do you all not get that they wouldn't have anywhere to put the bigger battery?

Probably because that it's in ten languages or something equally as daft. With no charger, there's no need to worry about different SKUs for different countries (e.g. you can't plug in a UK charger into a French electrical socket). As such, there's probably only 1 SKU for the whole of Europe.

Ah, I suck at explaining things sometines, sorry :p I edited the picture to make it more clear.

Look at the 3DS with one eye closed. As you move the 3DS, the picture that you will see will jump from "left image" to "right image" to "left image" etc. If you look at the 3DS normally at the right distance, then the left image will go to your left eye and the right image to your right eye.

However, in between each image, there's a little bit of crosstalk. The crosstalk is greater as you view it at a bigger angle, and there's little crosstalk in the center.

The point of the picture is so that I can explain that the 3D effect on the 3DS XL will probably be enhanced by eliminating some crosstalk. I don't know, I haven't seen the system. However, removing crosstalk is the only way I can think of to really make the 3D effect better.
