I have a feeling this card will do numbers. My mother just asked me "is that loud white guy going to get beat up tonight by that black guy?"

You would think so but A.Silva's 2 easiest fights were at Light Heavyweight.

He may be a middleweight but his skills transcend weight class.
 
Decided I'm rooting for Silva. Ultimate fighting doesn't deserve a champion who is willing to make himself look deluded in order to promote fights and has to relentlessly press forwards into great danger in order to win them. The Spider's taunting and disdain for his opponents may rub some the wrong way but it's entirely appropriate. Disrespectful and untouchable champions who know that they are above the sport they dominate will always be infinitely preferable to a grimy practitioner of the mixed martials who swims in a turbid pool of journeymen, ineffective single disciplinarians and derailed hype trains, clinging hard to every victory after tasting ignoble, humbling defeat. It's what made Fedor a better champ than Nogueira, Lesnar better than Couture; and it's what makes Jones stand clear of the revolving door of overhyped mediocrity that is LHW.

By the time Fedor lost it didn't matter that the heavyweight divisions of PRIDE and the Ultimate of Yesteryear were complete shams. But if Silva loses now, the year of the MMA Superbowl on FOX, the house of cards may never be rebuilt.

Guy who walks around at 220 and fights at 265 is a can and was never any good ever.

I hope silva loses just because I want to see if people start saying he was never any good.

Phillipou has a bad habit that a lot of boxers have when they go into MMA--he bends at the waist a lot. A top-level kickboxer will send a knee into his brain for doing that.
 
Silva v. Sonnen 2 have been in the making for so long. I can't believe it's finally here. I'm betting Silva, but i've been a fan since he fought here in Hawaii. Can't wait for this fight!!!
 
Some of these free prelims are good but most are never exciting or that intense. Do they tell them to intentionally not go all the way out?

I get the impression that a lot of the prelim dudes may be signed to the UFC for just that one fight (to fill a timeslot) so they don't want to fuck themselves up too bad as they need to be fighting in Midwest Cage Fighters Xtreme in two weeks.
 
It's difficult to take risks when you know a single loss can send you from earning a cozy 6&6 on a UFC undercard back to making three fifty plus fuel money to fight in a high school gymnasium for a promotion being streamed live via jailbroken iPhone 3GS.

Exactly. Prelims are, by and large, tryout matches for some of these guys. A bad loss can get you sent back to bagging groceries 8-5 next week.
 
It's 9:20am here and I'm tired as fuck. My netbook's battery isn't holding a charge, so it looks like I'll be off the grid until I get home from the bar later today. I feel bad knowing I'll miss the insanity of this thread + nerd chat but seeing Anderson cement his status as GOAT over Sonnen's twitching corpse will be more than enough.
