EVO 2012 Thread 2 Because one thread wasnt enough to hold all the hype and the salt

With the exception of the disc-locked content, what exactly do people hate about SFxT? Is it an unbalanced game or something?

There are very small things wrong with the game that really bring it down competitively. The short timer for one. The smaller skill cap doesn't help either. They can easily reduce the effectiveness of jabs and put the focus on links instead of abc target combos. Capcom could fix it but sadly they are way too stubborn. There are the normal balance problems, but really, all Capcom fighters have them in the first version.

The gems and on-disk DLC money grabs just ruined their image to the community. Maybe if they didn't fuck up in that department, more people would give SFxT a second chance.

There are many reasons to hate SFXT, the least of its issues being dick locked content, but that is an issue.

To me personally...It's core mechanics are pretty damn dreadful, Jab jab jab ABC combos into launcher, it seems other than the novelty of the TAG system the game is like a gigantic step down in terms of gameplay design

that's pretty much it the core mechanics was a huge step backwards in game play and the lock content was just the icing on the cake.

1) Most of the game's mechanics are at the very least poorly thought out (cross rush combos) and at the worst either useless or detrimental to the game (pandora, gems)
2) The game had significant bugs - various characters had infinites, Rolento had a ZA WARUDO game freezing glitch in one patch, Megaman could fly into space...
3) The game's balance is badly off. Much of the cast lacks a reliable anti-air, either normal or special. The top tier characters typically have amazing jump-in attacks that exploit this. It would take far too long (and admittedly far more experience with the cast than I have) to list all the balance problems. This is the main issue!
4) Wonky hitboxes. This ties into 3. Cross-ups are AMAZING.
5) The game encourages safe pressure strings. In SF4, getting hit with a standing light punch only leads into small amounts of damage and sometimes a knockdown - in SFxT it can be a third of one of your character's life. Result? Everyone blocks. All of the time. There's very little between BS mixup and safe pressure.
5) Due to the game's 2v2 nature combined with SF4 damage output (certain characters notwithstanding) you run into timeout after timeout.
6) The game is visually ugly and the music score is awful!

Also, PR disasters and DLC.
 
I get the feeling that getting to top 32 is like winning a weekly, getting top 16 is like winning a major, and getting top 8 (maybe top 4) is like winning an EVO from a few years ago.

I remember Artuo making a joke like "why we suddenly care about top 8? Used to be top 2". The competition is just too fierce.
 
I am rooting for Combofiend to take Marvel. If anyone can stand against Filipino Champ its Combofiend. Their Curley match was anyone's game to be taken
