EVO 2012 Thread 2 Because one thread wasnt enough to hold all the hype and the salt

Daigo needs a new form of motivation. Years and years worth of acclamation. Check. Fame. Check. Fortune. Check. Big goofy manager/boss guy. Check. Only one thing is left.

That's what he has to figure out. He doesn't seem very motivated. He has become another Valle. Everything he is doing now is for the community. Winning is no longer everything.

Diago looked unbeatable two years ago but didn't look like he was having fun. Maybe a new game would be the perfect answer for Diago.

Has Mad KOF been interviewed? How about a different interview with Infiltration? I know Zhi did that interview, but it didn't really feel like a proper interview.

Anybody know how Osamu felt about the whole event? I hope he had a great time. I'd hate for him to attend and then not have fun. I got a picture with him though! Pretty excited about that because he's an inspiration to me.

I've said this elsewhere but... a lot of the things i didn't like about SF4, were changed to almost exactly how i wanted them to be in SFxTK, and everyone hates that game LOL.

I'll be honest, anyone that thinks that you should get a full combo off a TAC counter is out of his mind. In its current form, not being combo'd further is fine.

IMO they should cost 2 bars and the red life of the incoming character, and also carry a damage scaling and meter gain penalty. In exchange for being uncounterable.

Wanted to say I had a blast this past weekend at EVO. I had stopped by the last two (Rio 2011, Caesars 2010), but hadn't stuck around too long because the trip always overlapped with my friend's birthday and we'd be out on the town a lot.

Special shout outs to Spooky and his crew for making my life much easier helping my colleague and me get setup for our coverage. And for remembering we were there from the very start and stuck it out all weekend coming into Sunday's finals, and making sure we had our spots still reserved when everyone else finally showed up to do some coverage. Seeing your setup in action is god like, especially for somebody like me who is trying to get a strong streaming initiative started up and is still "in training".

My ears were ringing badly after the first day being next to the speaker, but man so worth it. So much hype, so many cool things went down. Thank you horse head for making me laugh incredibly hard so many times. Great to actually say hello to some of the players I've only seen on streams before like ChrisG, Yipes, JWong, and others (even if they probably have no idea who I am). Shout out to Floe for putting up with that insanity Thursday night, though crap man have you never played Bionic Commando before? JK. Though I did win a moral victory bet by claiming you'd die on the world map crossing the bridge that was ripped straight out of Contra. And so hype when Wallmaster showed up. Also it was awesome to see my friends getting a huge reception at the Assist Me panel, and it was fun explaining to some people that Doom is really my roommate IRL.

Seriously, in the last year, I've really gotten into watching these fighting game streams even though I suck ass at fighting games. Maybe I should try picking up one of these new upcoming games (looking at you P4A) and actually learn to play one. Either way, so much energy. Thanks again for such a great weekend.

I agree with pretty much everything he said.....

Which begs the question.... Why is CJ Show Stoppa so bad for a guy that gets to play with FGTV whenever he wants?

Sigh.....

That's the million dollar question, isn't it? Shady K and Champ were actually talking about this with the stream chat the other day. They guessed that CJ doesn't actually learn from his losses, and only concentrates on his wins. Other than that, they couldn't really come up with a concrete answer.

They also said, don't know if it was joking or not, that CJ does not play with high level players often enough

I think some people are being too critical of Daigo. He still placed higher than all of his fellow Japanese players. I think he just had a bad showing on sunday. He'll be back to his best. You can't win them all.

I really think if you ran top 8 for a month straight in AE, each person in top 8 would have won at least once. Infil would have won the most, but everyone there would win on their best day.

Does anyone happen to know the exact model of Vizio TV that the ATLUS booth was using for Persona 4 Arena? The game looked amazing. O_o

Speaking of which - biggest shock as a stream monster was DrewGrimey making it all the way to Top 12. We knew he was good, but man, does that house help you level up or what?

Top 4 for SFxTekken was uneventful. Alright, seen all the finals.

I got extremely hype when PR Rog & Ricky did a "Cross Assault" (both players on the screen at the same time), each on one side of the opponent, just totally owning them and basically one-hit-ko'ing dat fool (either tokido or fuudo). worth watching.

hehe, that was a sick combo. Only memorable part of SFxT for me. On the other hand, it's lame that you can just do that if you have enough meter...it didn't look difficult to do at all.

Actually it was Tokido and Fuudo who did the cross assault on Ricky's Rufus.

iirc it was the other way around (tokido+fuudo doing the cross assault).

edit: beat.

the game is extremely footsie based and doesn't really reward mixups. really wish the game could revolve around cross assault and switch tag cancel setups, but as of right now the player with the better footsies will usually always win. so it wasn't surprising to see ricky make it so far. i was really hoping for jibbo or tatsu to showcase some amazing tech (and maybe they did offstream), but unfortunately top4 was mostly pure footise battles with optimized (yet boring) damage combos.

Smh.

Yet they'll probably announce SFxT or some other game that hasn't released yet to be in the lineup, like Injustice.

If SFxTK makes Evo (as a main game, outdrawing any VF tourney) and VF doesn't, I'll cosplay at the next major I go to. SFxTK is dead.

Not saying VF will make Evo, but I can think of about 100 fighters more likely to make Evo 2013 than SFxTK. That list would include Battle Fantasia, TMNT tournament fighters, and Toshinden.

The only games that are guaranteed locks for Evo 2013 right now are AE, Marvel, and TTT2

I think Persona and Injustice are most likely to win slots, so VF has a real chance, what's coming out that will a) beat it in popularity, b) have a scene that treats it as a main game, and c) is well-respected?

Guess it wasnt that memorable since it was Tokido and fuudo doing it lol

What sadden me is that he's right about Justin Wong. -_- Easily the most talented player at Marvel 3, but the dude just ain't putting in the proper amount of work and it's showing.

Unknown, but he locked eyes with me at one point as we were both driving along. He then sped up as if to race.

I cursed having a rental wheelchair and declined, but I dunno if my real one could've beaten his Japanese tech. I raged inwardly at not getting the chance to find out.

I think I accelerate quicker, though, I'd have cut his ass off in a heartbeat.
