The worst thing about the last two FF monies was the casting, the only good pick was the Thing (Great make up as well). jessica alba looked like a mess with died hair and colored lenses and is far too young.

What I mean is that the movie's plot would mainly involve a super team, but the perspective is mostly shown from that of a lower level hero. Think the xmen movies, except instead of focusing on someone like wolverine, it focuses on someone like x-23 who would be a part of what's going on, but wouldn't be the hero that ultimately saves the day.
These deals were done in the 80s when Marvel was in real danger of going under. They sold damn near everything that wasn't nailed down to keep the lights on.

X-Men 1 did focus on just such a fucking shitty character in the teenage'd Rogue. Made for a slow, action light and kinda boring film.
Documentary stylee, Modern Family but with the Fantastic Family, is indeed the best way to do an FF movie. Sue and Reed having a domestic in front of the cameras before awkwardly returning to all smiles, clandestine footage of one of Johnny and Ben's classic prank offs, and some big overarching terrible thing like getting sucked into the Negative Zone, camera crew and all to face off Annhilus or whatever monster/villain. You dont even need to do an origin story then because you can rush through the THEY GOT HIT BY COSMIC RAYS bit in the very intro of the documentary.
Casting wise, I think I've always thought of Christina Applegate as quite Susan Storm-ish. Would work for the more comedic angle too.

Well yes, everything has been done before after all. Its all just a case of transforming ideas and doing a less shitty job with them. The mockumentary format and has come a hell of a way since 90's badness. Hell you could turn it into a Sue Storm pregnancy story with Franklin of dealing with all the shit the FF do, a camera crew in to see how a 'supermom gives birth' and the scene for "push... PUSH!" with invisible forcefields just writes itself.

They could have negotiated timed licenses, like any rational company would have done. It was sheer stupidity on their part, desperation or not.
I'd give comic reboots a pass. All the comic films of the early 2000's were independent of one another, and like the comics themselves, it seems like the studios are starting to gather up the rights under one roof in order to intertwine the universes... like the comics themselves. Better that than trying to force some continuity between The Avengers and the old X-Men and FF movies. Also, the old FF movies were awful, so go ahead and reboot them.

We're rebooting franchises after a few years left right and centre. Iron Man 3 will actually be a reboot. Avengers 2 will be a reboot. Next X-Men will be a reboot. This post will be a reboot

they're doing this because Disney bought Marvel. before that Marvel sold some licenses to Fox and Sony. if the licenses aren't used within a certain time frame they will expire and go back to Marvel/Disney. Which Disney wants all the licenses back.

It was so sad seeing a comic book movie I would love (Silver Surfer) be wasted by having be the B-story in a FF movie.
I had no idea those property's were even linked.
I like the current set up, it gives Marvel a reason to try out some of their lesser IP.
Otherwise they would just have to cycle through the big franchises over and over (even more then as happens now)
Unfortunately Daredevil is included in that list. But yes, five main Marvel properties with the X-men having the most potential individual spinoffs to keep the license from expiring.
Marvel/ Disney still gets some amount of cash as fees when these movies go into production. But unlike a Marvel Studios production you don't get additional revenue from movie tie in licensing. Hence no toys for First class etc. Sony and Disney agreed upon some licencing deals for the Amazing movie but the relationship with Fox appears to be less friendly. Rob Liefeld was going on about on Wordballoon about how the Fox deals are not favorable to Marvel at all.

I liked Fantastic Four 1 and 2. They were silly and childish but good mindless entertainment if you're fans of the characters imo. I thought the sister/brother relationship between Johnny/Sue storm was done well, and Chris Evans was fun and charismatic as Johnny. I liked the banter between Johnny and Ben as well. The worst parts were the 'villains' and fights which weren't done very well at all. I don't consider them disasters but they could definitely be done MUCH better and I'm in favor of a reboot.

I was not a fan of Chronicle but I'm okay with this. I feel it would have been a much better film free of the constraints of the found footage genre, so I'm actually excited to see what this guy can do with a standard super hero film.
I still think the Fantastic Four are just about the hardest major group of comic book characters to bring to the screen, though. Hell, the Great Lakes Avengers would probably be easier. I will be pretty damn impressed if it is ever done well.

I echo all the other people who say stop the rebooting. At this point everyone knows the origin of the Fantastic Four/Spider-Man/Superman/Batman/Iron Man/Thor/Captain America/etc. Just make all the franchises into James Bond style movies. Plenty of great comic stories for each character to go around.
Yeah FF should be a family that deals with bigger then the universe threats. Hard to pull off in a movie.

Great news! I'm a big FF fan but hated the previous FF movies, Trank should handle things better. I hope they don't use the same cast either. And since this isn't being handled by Marvel Studios there's not going to be any shared universe crap with SHIELD popping in.
REALLY disappointed in reading that the new Daredevil movie is based off Born Again. That story arc was way too gritty for my tastes and I didn't like what it did to Karen Page.

I love Born Again, so that's not a problem for me...but at least you can take comfort in the fact that it isn't yet another origin movie! We need more of that sort of thing in relaunches. If they take another stab at Batman's origin I'll be utterly despondent.

I don't know. We have yet to get a decent F4 origin film and I for one would like to see it. It's a very cool story that just hasn't been properly realized for the big screen. Thor and Cap, both of which suffer from quite a few issues, still manage to tell competent stories. What about Marvel's first family?
Yea, I wouldn't mind seeing a well done FF origin this time. Not even the cartoons did it well. Gotta beat the commies to space!

They have too though, other wise they loose the license back to Marvel, and if they could make a trilogy like FF1 I'd be fine with it.
The first was too broad and had terrible casting (sans the Thing who worked out great), but it was corny enough to be fun.
How can you hate a move made in the 00' that has a hero tied to a chair getting nitrogen pumped into them and they end up dine after.

It's inevitable and kind of has to be done with a reboot. It confuses the mainstream viewing audience if you don't and they can't tell if it's a sequel or not.
James Bond does it all the time and no one seems to have any issues with that franchise. Batman did it before Batman and Robin completely ruined the franchise. Those were the two movies that started this whole damn reboot craze, and you know the difference between them and others? Batman and James Bond needed to completely sever ties with the long-established canon that came before. Fantastic 4 has had two movies. A new cast, a completely different tone and vision and no one would mistake a new movie as a sequel to the previous.
Sadly, The Incredible Hulk is the only "reboot" that has done it right. Completely ignores the movie that came before it, completely ignores the whole origin story genesis and just gets right down into the meat of the story. That's what this needs to do.
And where the hell did you get a crazy idea like that?

Outside of Sliver Surfer I think things are fine as is, if Marvel got back all their franchises then they would be less likely out other franchise on the big screen.
Ironman might never have come out if they had Spider-man, FF and X-men to focus on.
