'Chronicle' director Josh Trank frontrunner for Fantastic Four reboot.

Fuck, that isn't good. I hope the film is quality, at least.

Good news is, Fox just lost their guy for daredevil. Hopefully that one will go back to marvel.

I was pleasantly surprised with Chronicle, fine with him attempting an established character. Not cool with more reboots though.

Seeing that the Fantastic Four series has yet to have a good movie they can reboot it as many times as they want until it happens for all I care.

FF is a franchise that actually needs a reboot. There aren't that many that do.

Wow ... completely missed this thread.

Having really enjoyed Chronicle overall though .... I'm happy with this decision. The script had its issues, but Trank seemed to 'get' super heroes. And while it's lame this is already getting a reboot (though I'd argue it's needed), part of that 'getting it' revolved around addressing the holy shit moments of realizing super powers. So in that sense ... seems like a good fit.

I think he will do a good job if the script isn't a turd.

Are the Fantastic Four even compelling enough to require a film series?

If they do it right it can be. They need to get them against some absolutely out-of-this world menace. Get into their scientific roots a little bit more.

Venom will get made after the 24 movie, Arrested Development movie, Deadpool, Ghostbusters 3 and Jurassic Park 4.

Ehh.. I think Arrested Development is happening. Though, I wouldn't be shocked if it's not released in theaters.

What was wrong with the first two F4 movies that it needs to be rebooted?

I liked them. =/

They are at least as bad as Green Lantern, if not a bit worse.

I personally thought they were fine though I mostly don't like them as heros. Very boring outside of the human torch. The hell kind of power is "stretching". And the thing is just a less interesting Hulk and Hulk is already uninteresting as it is.

Jesus, who the fuck is asking for a fantastic four reboot?

I'm still shocked people went to see a spiderman reboot

If the movie is entertaining, who gives a shit? People are too caught up in whether a movie is a reboot or not. Fucking hate that term anyway. I'd like to see a good Fantastic 4 movie with a sequel with Galactus that isn't a goddamn cloud.

I'm more interested in the Daredevil news though. Fox isn't really moving very fast and doesn't seem to be concerned with losing the rights. Wonder if they'll lapse on that. My interest dropped after Slade dropped out.

I don't think anyone was calling for a Spider-man reboot. As bad as SM3 was, I think people would have still flocked to part four with an open mind. I know I would have at least.

I liked Chronicle, but it's still a bit of a jump from that to a big budget blockbuster superhero team movie.

He is.

It's not like Chronicle didn't have a lot of visual effects in it.

Plus...the standard blockbuster superhero movie is very overdone, there's a certain template they followed after Spider-Man that a lot of them still haven't shaken.

They shouldn't just do "the same, but better this time", they should be trying to do more unusual things to stand out. Now, I don't want a found footage Fantastic Four film, but something unusual for superhero blockbusters is needed, particularly for reboots.

Nice, I enjoyed Chronicle a lot. Don't care much for the FF but I'll keep an eye on this if it looks interesting.

It would be nice if these reboots didn't automatically mean origin story. Everyone knows who these people are and even if they didn't you can just allude to how they got there. I mean, even if you remove the worldwide renowned comics from the equation, who hasn't watched the previous Spider Man movies? Children under 10yo who don't even care how he got his abilities? Just make a fun movie with an all-new cast without making us see these characters getting the same old powers for the billionth time during the first half of the story.

I liked how the current Sherlock movie series didn't start with an origin story of Holmes meeting Watson and whatnot. I'd love if they started doing the same with superhero movies, although I understand it's not as lucrative since telling the same story again with some deviations is part of the milking for these blockbusters.

ugh would hope this doesn't even happen. Fantastic Four isn't all that great to begin with and to me a reboot after less than 10 years is just too soon.

They screwed up the last two movies, don't see why this time it would much different.

I think you already have to be fans of the fantastic four to like a movie about them. To the average non comic book reading person the team is about as corny as aquaman riding a seahorse.

Pretty much everyone said the same thing about Thor. It can be done right, with the correct people.

There was already a great Fantastic Four movie. It was called The Incredibles.

Also, thankfully (and surprisingly) the Fantastic Four license agreement doesn't include most of their villains...although it does include some that would be great for the MCU like Galactus and Doom.

Am I the only one who doesn't have a problem with reboots as long as they're warranted? FF NEEDS a reboot. I wouldn't care if the last movie came out 2 years ago because they sucked and they could be done a lot better.

Yeah, and no one's forcing anyone to see these things. If it sucks it will be par for the course but there's a chance it could be good, so by all means, reboot it.

I liked Fantastic Four 1 and 2. They were silly and childish but good mindless entertainment if you're fans of the characters imo. I thought the sister/brother relationship between Johnny/Sue storm was done well, and Chris Evans was fun and charismatic as Johnny. I liked the banter between Johnny and Ben as well. The worst parts were the 'villains' and fights which weren't done very well at all. I don't consider them disasters but they could definitely be done MUCH better and I'm in favor of a reboot.

This all the way, except for being in favor of a reboot. I loved the chemistry between the cast in the films, and I don't see them being matched. It was good campy fun, and I loved it through and through. I even didn't mind the giant hungry cloud. Yes, I will say it GAF: I loved the Fantastic Four films.

I don't mind different interpretations on characters. I just wish more studios would look at how EON handles James Bond and simply takes over with a new actor and doesn't really mention previous movies. Batman Begins and Casino Royale kicked off this "reboot" craze because they were stories that were never told before. We don't need to see how Peter Parker got bit by a spider every time or see Kal-El get jettisoned from Krypton and how he's raised by Kansas parents. Fantastic 4 could use a reboot because their origins aren't known to much of the world.
