How would Steve Jobs hype this?

"We at Apple, strike for innovation. We successfully created a device with lack of color. It's awesome to experience this. Your device is naked but it's not at the same time. This premium of lack of color will only get you back 40$ more. And like all our devices, they are limited runs" etc

I want this so bad! It'll go well with my first handheld purchase which was an Atomic Ice Gameboy Color.

That will never, ever enter production.

Face it, it only exists as a stealth way to show people how and where there isn't enough room for a second slide pad.

I need this in my life.
But alas, I am due to purchase a silver/black version.

Actually, I'm getting a little worried; I've already eaten up 2 system transfers. This time will be my third and then I'll only have 1 or 2 left..... and I'm only 1.5 years into having my 3DS :(

Are there any good trade in offers for getting the 3DS XL cheaper when you trade in your 3DS?

GAME has it where you trade in your 3DS and get the 3DS XL for £79.99 with the AC adapter.

(I'm talking UK.)

You'll more than likely be better off selling your 3DS privately.

Edit: Does anybody know if there's a demo of Kid Icarus on the e-shop?

That will never be for sale, even in Japan.
Never say never. It looks unlikely, but Nintendo can be unpredictable. Also, they make a lot of money from nostalgia. We just need to wait until this look will be considered as the good kind of retro.

Perhaps mullets will be re-found first but nevertheless the day is coming.

I love the transparent one but it kind of scares me..I would worry all the time about certain parts breaking up "My god this chip is so small...I hope to not push the console too much" :D

Murakami: The backlight uses the most power, so it would have a large effect on battery life. Naturally, our first debate was over whether it was all right the way it was.

Iwata: I can understand that.

Murakami: We checked out various methods and technologies and found a new, as-yet-unestablished, technology for decreasing power consumption.

Iwata: What exactly was that like?

Murakami: It's a technology for holding down power consumption that, compared to the Nintendo 3DS, improves the use efficiency of light from the backlight. .

Interestingly the power saving is not overly (if at all) related to the battery!
Surely the 3DS (Lite now?) will have that implemented?

Done reading, some things you guys might want to know.

As for something we haven't touched on yet, I'd like people to look at to how some aspects of operation have improved. The A, B, X and Y Buttons, as well as the +Control Pad are bigger and thicker, making them easier to use in play. In particular, we increased the thickness of the key tops height-wise for the L and R Buttons, so they're easier to use too. And for Start, Select and Home Buttons, I had the designers work hard so the keys sink in a seesawing action. They have a long and thin key top, and wherever you press them, they sink right in.

Yes. On a LCD screen there are basically three reflective layers, which all of them reflects and cause glare. So this time, we specially treated all the layers. Reflectivity on the Nintendo 3DS was about 12%, but we decreased that to about 3%.

I wasn't very involved with the hardware, but I think the 3DS XL's best selling point is that the larger LCD increases parallax, so players can enjoy stereoscopic 3D with greater impact. The 3D Depth Slider has more range, making it easier to adjust to your own preferences, so I hope its good aspects will reach a broader range of people. And we've pre-installed on the 3DS XL with one sample video for experiencing the stereoscopic 3D. It's a CG movie that Nintendo made drawing upon 3D knowhow gained from the Nintendo 3DS, so I think it will really give you a taste of the capabilities of the 3DS XL.

My favourite part of the NA Iwata Asks:

Not a single color is available in North America. (laughs)

Alright, after sniping eBay auctions and looking around for the last month I finally managed to get enough GameStop gift cards for my 3DS XL.

Total cost after tax: 184.32.

Can't wait!

Anyone know if Gamestop is having that special offer to double the amount you get for trading in consoles?
Yep. Traded my 3DS and a DS Lite today. Got $100 for the 3DS and $40 for the Lite. Also, if you pre-order NSMB2 or Kingdom Hearts you'll get a 30% trade-in bonus for games. Along with some old DS games I traded in, I got around $185. The offer lasts til Sunday.

GBA = widescreen
PSP = widescreen

Vs

DS = Square
3DS = widescreen.

You must be able to understand the difference there.
Actually, the GBA was a different aspect ratio (16:10) from PSP and pretty much all other non-PC widescreen gaming. Of course, that STILL means a mild stretch that may be easier to ignore.

I'm actually fuckin' pissed about the colors America is getting. I don't want red or blue, they're both childish. I just want black or white or silver. I have a bronze dsixl and it's super classy. I can't have this pale blue toy sitting next to it and my gameboy light. Half considering just getting a purple small 3DS until they put out some good xl colors.

I will more than likely get the red one.
