Er.... er....
But they have his DNA and er... The Lazarus Pit!
And er...SCIENCE!
They use science to make Damian....

Wait, how long after Bruce and Talia had sex did she die? I don't think it was nine months....but I dunno. But then I'm sure people would have noticed she was preggo.

So I find my self torn, I don't think the soundtrack is poor, I actually think its quite good... but only when its paired with the Movie. On its own its lacking for sure. Where the music tied together with the film itself has much, MUCH more impact. I don't think that's a bad thing either.

Anyone else think this?

I like the soundtrack, with the following asterisks.

* It's not as good as the prior films
* They repeated the same track often and used in some of the incorrect moments (aka Spider-Man 2)

And again, what was the whole point of the 5 month time bomb when they could have detonated it any time, especially when they planned for it to go off anyways with apparently no intention of leaving the island? What is the point of the meaningless time limit?

Did you not listen to Bane?

It was to get their hopes up and the crush it.

He wasn't like the League of Shadows where they would have just detonated. He wanted to toy w/ Gotham, torture them.

how did Alfred know so much about Bane? Did he bing it?

Also remember Bruce had a window to Gotham. By prolonging the sufferring of Gotham he further destroyed Bruces soul. This was a personal vendetta from Talia, and she was willing to drag out and shamble everything Bruce had hoped to achieve

Its easy to criticize, and much much harder to do yourself. I dont think hes saying that theres anything wrong with your criticisms, but its dumb to think that you could do a better job making a movie. Do you see film critics all become hotshot directors and writers?

This is so stupid it hurts. This is a thread about a film. Criticism of art doesn't mean you could or want to do it better. Otherwise, close up shop folks, this thread is over for all non Hollywood filmmakers.

I don't get the 5 month plan either. Such a lousy plan on the terrorist's side. A lot of things could have gone wrong in 5 months. And they are expecting the bomb to be accurate too, down to providing a timer. Still, not as hilarious as spine/vertebrae injury healed by an old man slapping his back and tying him on a rope.
It just happened to be the half life of the core. Like the pit that he put Bruce in, Bane and Talia wanted to give Gotham a false sense of hope (like being able to climb out of the pit). It worked, seeing as Foley didn't want to help Gordon at the end since he was waiting for "them to fix it". Bane was counting on torturing Bruce with seeing Gotham decay, not counting on him being able to get out of the put. Underestimated him.

Alfred has access to the batcave and its computer as well you know....

I'm also really glad the batcave wasn't over the top. I was really worried it was going to be this over the top, gaudy looking place.

Also, "Mind if I cut in" Or if I'm calling it "catwomans theme" is reallllllly well done.

cmon that computer he was using was a bit over the top. (jk of course)

but with that said, it would have been funny if he was using like a little dell in the bat cave.

The tablet Bane's henchmen used to hack the stock exchange looked to be running Windows XP. I had the hardest time not cracking up.

Watched it last night at 11pm. I thought it was fantastic. My excitement has been lower for this than TDK's build up. I was pretty comfortable keeping lower expectations. But over the last couple weeks I got excited, and I fell right back into that world.

I think it might be my favorite in the series, but I tend to need digesting time with these movies. TDK I liked a lot, but knew it fell short of my expectations right after, something didn't deliver. I didn't want to believe it wasn't perfect. Reminiscing with friends later I realized how much of it I loved at the same time. Batman Begins I simply loved on its own merits, while my accompanying friend thought it was "good". I couldn't be talked out of it, I thought it was fantastic. As the years passed, I find Batman Begins awful cheesy at times. Not nearly as beautifully shot as the others in the series. It has a great first half though that's the foundation for the series, with a weaker ending (Rha's reappearance through the end). I actually still really love the first scenes in costume, his fight with Scarecrow. It's terrifically dark, playing with silhouettes and showing Detective Batman. The rain is great, very moody. Blade Runner-esque.

TDK meanwhile has a bombastic opening, and such a terrific momentum once they get back from Hong Kong. I actually like Hong Kong, it's fun. The Joker's onslaught is what's truly amazing though, all the way through Rachel's death. Which may be my favorite thing in the series. The Joker in the cop car, his victory and Batman's loss. But it always loses my engagement post-Hospital. Eckhart's acting once he becomes Two-Face is hard to handle, after a great speech from The Joker to provide him proper motivation. It kind of collapses instead of fully delivers on everything it set up. The boat scene is far less tense than the stuff before it. Or it wavers certainly. Eckhart in the last scene is at his weakest. But then it wraps up terrifically with Batman running from the cops.

There's no way I'm summing up TDKR right now, I haven't even slept yet, but it felt the most consistent beginning to end of the Batman films. Thoroughly enjoyable throughout, enjoyed Bane a lot (albeit dialogue was hard to hear), and found Bruce's story compelling in similar ways to Begins and really engaging. I thought the story sets up and delivers on so much. The acting is the most consistent in the series (no performances as bad as TDK/BB's worst side characters). Bale especially brings it as Bruce. It's the most comfortable he's looked in the role by a mile, and it heightens his performance a lot. But yeah, just terrifically tense, VERY satisfying. I don't know if it reaches the heights of Begins best moments(s), or anything like Ledger's Joker. The ending was awesome , and their were several truly captivating moments though. I feel like it does a great job of combining Begins emotional story with TDK's spectacle. Pretty much unrelenting in performance and action and stakes.

It fits in very nicely as a trilogy, something I didn't think I would see the series as. It supports the other two films in a really great way, which surprised me, after how standalone TDK was. I really appreciated that, and had a fantastic time at the theater. It might very well be my favorite of the 3 films. Tip of the cap to Nolan and the whole crew. These have been my favorite and best theater experiences since 2005.

Yea the fact that they included the autopilot makes this thought...just no.

Yup. Also, Bruce leaving directions for "Robin" to find the Batcave pretty well debunks this idea.

When Bane first spoke in the opening airplane scene I couldn't stop laughing. His voice was particularly bad in that scene. Either it got a bit better as the movie went on or I just got used to it and wasn't super bothered by it. Overall I really don't understand why they went with that voice. It's completely ridiculous and at times inaudible.

Maybe it's just me, but I kept hearing Sean Connery's voice every time Bane spoke...

that bit confused. Banes ghettopad needed 8 minutes to upload. they leave the stock exchange and its sunny, they drive through a tunnel and its pitch black. felt troublesome

Yeah, he just shows up under the bridge talking to Selina. Bothered me when I first saw it.

It was a little weird, but wasn't a big deal to me. I think all it would have taken to make it not feel odd to people would have been a shot of him from outside Gotham looking in. Just something to let people know he was back without him just suddenly popping up.

They could have shown an elaborately detailed scene involving Bruce getting back into Gotham, but I'm sure they felt it would have been needless and tacked-on. Let's just say Batman has a way of getting past sensors undetected down to an artform and go with that.

Bane's voice owned. Bane owned. Owned.

Yep. I think the music for these movies, save for a few standout cues (the Joker's "sound" is easily my favorite thing Zimmer did) was pretty underwhelming.

Oh, I didn't think it was unbelievable or hurt the film. Just notable.

I don't see how Bruce getting back into Gotham is bothering people. The guy is after all trained by the league of shadows and not to mention he is the goddamn Batman which he uses darkness and stealth to his advantage. Getting into Gotham should be no problem for Bruce, doesn't really need a additional scene for it.

Talia's death was really unsatisfying to me, and I'm saying that even though I didn't like her character at all in the movie both as Tate and Talia. My problem with it is that she dies in a huge truck trash. Sitting in the audience I'm thinking "okay that crash is cool and would definitely kill everyone in the truck".

Then...the back door opens and Gordon emerges completely unscathed, no cuts, no blood nothing. A few people in my theater clapped because it was one of those unrealistic but fun action movie moments where the good guys make it out okay inexplicably.

Then we go to the front of the truck and there Talia is mortally wounded. Taking the same truck crash and trivializing it for one character while making it fatal to another was very jarring for me.

Gordon was in the trailer though...

The actual crash was a cool call back to Ra's death, but then she had the cliched final words and close eyes/drop head death with some bad acting from Cotillard and some really awkward reaction shots of Batman, Catwoman and Gordon.

That was pretty silly, alright.

Plus...it was the middle of a trading day. Even if the market was aout to close it would still be 4 PM. This was some X-Men 3 Golden Gate Bridge type shit.

The same trailer that fell the same distance as the front of the truck and collided with the ground. And he was in the trailer with no seat belt or cushion. Surrounded by the hard metal of the trailer and the nuclear bomb though...

Yes. It should be easily understandable why he would survive over someone in the driver's seat.

The only part of Talia's death I had trouble with was the quick head bob and closing of the eyes. It was like a humorous parody, like something you'd see in Hot Shots: Part Deux lol

Completely unharmed? And I'm not just criticizing the realism of the crash but also how its handled. It was jarring to go from a hooray type moment for Gordon, which I thought was laughable, to a very serious death of a villain based on the same event.

In all fairness, Nolan couldn't show blood at all in these movies. There was another scene in the movie where a bunch of police officers get shot by a machine gun. The camera cuts back to them and you see all the officers laying on the ground completely bloodless.

Reading through this thread and

And I have to repeat this, they really fucked up Bane's voice during the prologue. It was SO obviously done through ADR. I really do not like bloggers for their constant complaining for month after month right now. Nolan should have stuck with his guns there.

I agree with this, his voice in the prologue sounded much better. It was so loud in the final version that it sounded ridiculous.
