i wasn't really talking about quality but i don't think you can say that batman is this generations star wars.
I would say it's my Star Wars. Trilogy of massively successful, box office smash and culturally significant genre films that a bunch of kids fall in love with and are hyped for every remaining installment, gobbling up toys and marketing material?
if people are still talking about the Dark Knight trilogy 25 years from now, then you can say they're this generation's Star Wars.
I think they will, out of all of the previous Batman movies, none of them come close to actually telling a story about his character and offer any sense of closure. When it gets rebooted, WB will likely want to continually churn out new movies and not want to consider the series ending. So they will end up with a reboot that offers 2d characters and a plot that has no weight to it.
If a person thinks LOTR is their Star Wars, then it is their Star Wars. If a person thinks the Batman Trilogy is their Star Wars, then it is their Stars. It really is as simple as that.

ugh okay?

unless you just talk about the US i don't think batman has the world wide appeal for being considered the trilogy of our generation.
Reloaded was adequate. Revolutions made small kittens die. It's the best 'trilogy' I've seen I think.
If they hadn't fucked up the sequels, The Matrix could have been that Star Wars for a generation.
Dafuq.unless you just talk about the US i don't think batman has the world wide appeal for being considered the trilogy of our generation.
Dafuq.
Batman is instantly recognizable everywhere.
BB and TDK foreign gross combined < avatars domestic gross
BB and TDK foreign gross combined ~= avengers domestic gross
That's the right team.
Sculli, the thing is when talking about the third movie curse it's always going to come down to opinion but that isn't a reasonable picture to use as the third movie curse thingy. You either need to use critics reviews - in this case, TDK > TDKR > BB (which means its better regarded than the first, so it clearly has broken the third movie curse if that was regarded as great as well) or you use the public. And a lot of people here don't like it, a lot of people do. Some are saying its the best one, some second, some third. Some think BB is the best, some second, some third. Some are saying TDK is the best, some second, some third.
It's a polarising trilogy in picking which one is the best, so I would say that yes, it has broken the third movie curse. Not in your eyes, but there will be a hell of a lot of people who loved SM1, 2 and 3 and think the curse is broken, but critical and public consensus would tell them otherwise. Critical and public consensus this time tells them that the third film is just as good as the other two.
This literally proves nothing
Barely anyone outside of the US saw BB and TDK was just a moderate success WW. Those movies are not that big of a deal WW. I was just saying it lacks the WW appeal for being considered trilogy of our generation

What is this TDK? I live overseas and I assume you're talking about the electronics company.

I think the three groups are going to fall somewhere along these lines:
GROUP A: TDK>BB>TDKR (majority of film fans)
GROUP B: TDK>TDKR>BB (general audience/critics)
GROUP C: BB>TDKR>TDK (Darkhorse group, including most of NeoGAF. This group will probably be the most vocal.)
I'd include myself in Group A.
You missed the correct group.
BB > TDK > TDKR
I'm none of those groups, BB>TDK>TDKR.
I can only speak from personal experience, not actual numbers, so I don't know if i'm stepping on toes here.
But I don't think anyone cares about Batman in my country (The Netherlands).
People care about good movies, of course, but I have never met an actual Batman "fan" in my life, although i'm sure those exist somewhere.
Batman is a thing, a cultural entity and everyone knows what it is, like Mickey Mouse. But actual adult fans? Never seen 'em.
I seriously feel it's impossible for this film to be considered better than either previous film. It's just too messy. Sure it's good and I'm glad it is because if this film sucked I would be so damn sad until Skyfall and Hobbit hit.
But script issues and pacing really drag this below the prior two...much tighter experiences (yes even TDK which is extremely tight until around the ferry scene)
Do we know when BO results are coming? I know they pushed them back because of the shooting but do we know until when?
Yeah the pacing during the first half the movie was slow.
The Dark Knight flowed much better.
However, due to what happened in the amazing second half of the TDKR, it made me appreciate the (slow) build up during the first half.
The Dark Knight was a better movie in terms of pace but I think I enjoyed The Dark Knight Rises more due to all the surprising twists during the second half of the movie.
Disagree. DKR is a lot more interesting in the first 30 minutes than TDK is.Awesome plane sequence with Bane, Gordon's speech on anniversary of Dent's death and the Dent Act, introduction of both Blake and Catwoman.
TDK takes quite a while to get going with all the Hong Kong/Lau stuff. Yes, there are great aerial views of Hong Kong and Batman flying but I was more intrigued by the introduction of three brand new characters, one right after the other.
Also, Bruce's dance with Selina was great.
