I simply said that I found the letter to be pretentious, and the fact that he felt the need to A) write it and B) release it publicly to be a tad bit egocentric. I just don't see the need, regardless of how heart wrenching moving on from Batman may be for him, to write a pseudo poetic and eloquent elegy for a movie franchise.

I can understand writing something where you discuss the joys of working on the project, and I don't know, thank the fans for supporting your work. But the comparisons between the franchise and one's child, the frame structure, the pseudo poetic nature of the entire piece, the lack of gratitude for the fans and non-actors that made his vision possible and the nerve to suggest that he never had anything post Batman Begins planned beforehand? It simply doesn't jive with me. But you guys are right, my last comment was a bit out of bounds. You're free to disagree and hold your opinions.

THE NERVE! Seriously, you must've had a bad day. To say that he had the NERVE, the damn AUDACITY to suggest that he didnt have sequels planned? You're literally getting mad over nothing. Also, he did thank the actors. mentioned them by name in fact. These were THEIR characters.

I have to admit, the pretentious comment was partially influenced by a Nolan interview I had read regarding his non-usage of cell phones or emails about 30-40 minutes prior to reading the farewell letter:

lol I will be honest the more I read the interview the more I like him better. And the non-cell phone doesn't bother because I know people like that in real life, and I will take someone like him everyday over a person who sits across from me and won't make eye contact because he/she is too busy texting or surfing on the phone

Quick quote..

Nolan doesn't have a cellphone, or use email, because he likes talking in person.

The director famously admitted a few years back that he's never owned a cellphone, and he says that he finds he's never really needed them. "It's not that I'm a Luddite and don't like technology," he told The Hollywood Reporter. "I've just never been interested. When I moved to L.A. in 1997, nobody really had cell phones, and I just never went down that path. And I'm in a slightly unique position because when I'm working -- and I've been working pretty much continuously for the last 10 years -- I'm never more than five feet from somebody who has a phone... A lot of the things people amuse themselves with really are just toys for grown-ups, and it eats your time and pulls your concentration." He did have an email address set up for him by Warner Bros at one stage, but by the time he checked it, he says, "There were thousands of emails in this account -- some from quite important people, actually. I had them take it down, so people didn't think they were getting in touch with me." So, if you've been waiting for a reply from Nolan for the last decade or so, don't take it personally...

when will you guys start quoting this film's lines? can't wait to hear something like "I wondered what would come first, your breaking of the ToS or your ban?" or something silly like that. you guys are the pros at that.

I was talking about the non actors, ie the people behind the camera. And I really didn't mean for my comment to delve into something so bloated. I've said all that I wanted to say regarding that letter, and in hopes of getting the topic back on topic, I'm going to refrain from talking about further...

Having said that, does anyone think the film could have benefitted from a downsizing of the runtime. There's a lot of superfluous material that I fell could have been cut to create a more lean and streamlined experience.

I just did it to harson just a few posts up. admittedly, it wasn't particularly witty nor did it really fit. but fuck it.

It's the forward to a book about making the movies.

I do have to say that eventhough I didn't really like the film, I loved the Imax experience. This was my first time and I was on the edge of my seat, soaking everything in. If anyone wants to know my true identity I was at the Metreon Imax in San Fransisco for the 12:00 pm showing of Dark Knight Rises today. Can't remember exactly where I was seated, maybe three or four rows from the back. I was with two friends: a tall girl with really long black hair and a short chubby kid. So yeah if you were there maybe you saw me.

Just wanted to leave this here...

Anne Hathaway is gorgeous.

That is all.

She really is and she seriously slimmed down for this role. Like she was always thin but she appears to have lost a good bit of weight to look skinnier and more agile.

I prefer her at her normal weight to be honest but she still looks amazing in this.

Solid 8.5 out of 10. Man, Bane's voice was loud. Every time he spoke in the scene boom, everything else seemed muted, even if he was in the background in a scene with tons of ambient sound.

Sure. I mean I enjoyed it for the most part, but man some people in here just seem to be overrating it....

I was never really into the other two as well. Probably doesn’t help that I think nothing of Batman himself.

Yeah that's it. If you don't like Batman anyway then to give it 7.5/10 is a pretty awesome rating I reckon.

Best part of the film:

Please let this lead to a Nightwing Film.....PLEASE! I know Blake =/= Grayson, but I want to believe!!!!

But, I enjoyed the film and thought it was a nice farewell to the series until the inevitable reboot

I really didn't like
the reveal that his name was Robin but I would love to see a Nightwing spin off

BB, TDK and TDKR overrated?!... Yeah, right.

To each his own, but some films are just undeniably good even if you don't like them.

Nolan is such a stunning director.

They're all very good movies but when TDK came out it was almost instantly at the top of the imdb top 250. Being called the best movie of all time on the largest movie related poll makes me think it's a tad overrated.

That happens often due to the fact that it takes time for a movie to properly aggregate out with big fans coming to rate the movie first and then people with more casual interest and more measured opinions coming in later.

750k votes later, it's still an 8.9 though.

Just saw this tonight. I thought the movie was amazing and a great end to the series. I need the boxed set in blu-ray so I can marathon these movies.

The only thing I guess I wasn't fully satisfied with, but isn't an actual downfall, just fanboyism
is the fact that Bruce Wayne wasn't still Batman at the end. I wanted to see him standing over the city looking all imposing. Or even Robin would have been fine, perhaps in a Nightwing outfit or something.

That's just the fanboy in me, though. I really hope they come back to this world at some point in time and expand on it in some way. I realize that
Christian Bale will no longer be Batman in the future
but Nolan built an amazing world here.

I'm so desperate for more Batman that I'm even going back and re-watching the animated tv series from the 90's :|

The emotional journey of Bruce Wayne was done really well. I don't think we'll see a trilogy this good again for a while. We'll see how Man of Steel turns out, though.

Happens everytime when a hype up move comes out. Give it a few months and check the list again.
