I'm not sure which Chopper Purse to get for my Blue XL.

Blue, Burgundy and Brown are available. Any recommendations from people who have it.

Still can't grasp how ppl struggle with the sweet spot. Hold it in front of you, and keep your eyes open to see visuals. Refrain from constantly swaying the device.

Occasionally you may move the device out of position and experience a split second of a hazy misaligned picture. This is unavoidable at this stage of tech advancement.

And lastly, don't be a baby.

For me personally, it depends on what I'm playing. When I play RE or OoT, I have very little problem in keeping the sweet spot. Every now and then I'll lose it, but correcting it is easy enough.

When I play Mario Kart though, it's a different matter entirely. Any track with particularly sharp corners, I constantly lose it and find my eyes going all over the place to try and get it back again as I adjust my position etc. It's got to the point where I have to turn the 3D off on certain tracks.

Perhaps I'm making minor movements as I approach corners without even realsing it or something.

Still a great game though.

3DS does track how long you've played a game right? something I wish the Vita and every system did

How long you've played, your average playtime and how many times you've booted up the game.

Yeah, the Vita needs that and an improved near application. near is collecting a lot of cool data but it's so hard to get at and I'm never really sure what's new.

Yeah I like that feature too. I wish Nintendo would do more with it and make the e-shop charts more worthwhile by using it. "Top 10 3DS games this month, according to play time." "Top 5 NES Games this week, according to the number of users that booted the game up," etc. It would be helpful for them in promoting hit games, and also interesting to stat nerds like me who just are curious about what's being played.

I had no choice but to get the brown since the other colors were sold out at the time at Amazon but it's actually a nice neutral shade of light brown so I'm pretty happy with it.

Amazon's got all of the colors of it back in stock now but a couple of them are from 3rd party sellers.
Sadly, they won't ship the Chopper Purse to Canada. I'm going through ebay.
I just noticed that Amazon.ca doesn't carry it, that really sucks.

I was using Near yesterday and I still don't know how to use the damn thing lol

Pre ordered a blue one last night off New Egg. Then I ordered Super Mario Land, KH DDD, and Bowser's Inside Story.

Now the wait begins...

Is there a consensus on screen protectors for the 3DS XL? I am looking at the various Hori screen protectors but I'm not sure which ones are best.

Just but the cheap ones from Hori. Excellent quality. There's no need for the so called Pitahari-filter afaik

Yeah, similar like the Wii, but better integrated. I actually like this more than achievements, tells me more about the value of a game I bought.

The sweet spot is very dependent on the distance between a persons eyes and his/her viewing habits.
People having problems with the sweet spot often have latent or noticeable vision deficiencies as well as a healthy set of eyes should have no problems readjusting to the sweetspot instantly.

That's actually the biggest problem with the 3DS autostereoscopic display: It requires healthy eyes, and most people don't even realize they have a problem with their vision.

So the baby comment is really not needed.

Dont' have it yet but I ended up getting the dark brown. seem to looks pretty nice in pictures and honestly it'll be in my bag most of the time anyway. I should have it by tuesday so if you want I can post some pics then.

What is this I'm hearing of screen yellowing? My launch 3DS is pure white, but my gf's purple one has yellowing and it's annoying. The XL's don't have that do they?

Tempted to buy screen protectors, but I absolutely SUCK at putting them on straight. And I always seem to get a single dust or hair particle trapped under at the last second.

So wait, Gamestop is offering 60 dollars officially?

Gamestop US maybe, but they also have a deal until late August where you'll get an extra 25 dollars on top of that. Amazon is still better: 88-100 dollars credit for a like-new 3DS.

Significantly warmer(yellow) screens on the XL. Much like the DSiXL was significantly more yellow than the DSi (pure white). Some pics people have posted show screens that are comically yellow, which if I get one it will be immediately returned to the store. White should be white, not yellow-brown.

-_- My phone was turned off, but it seems the store I brought my 3DS too yesterday tried to contact me...might have had my XL today :( Now I gotta wait till monday.

Is it worth selling/trading my DSiXL for the 3DS XL? The quality of DS games in it is supposed to be better right?

Good god no. The DSiXL is the very best way to play a DS title. The 3DS XL has an advantage over the regular 3DS in that now the image in 1:1 mode is on par with the size of a regular DSi. Choosing to make DS games fit the screen on the 3DS XL, however, results in the same ugly images as a normal 3DS, only bigger. Personally I despised the jump from DSiXL to 3DS, but the 3DS XL should make the situation slightly more tolerable.

Who has a comically yellow screen? I haven't seen any in this thread.

Gamers today are used to cool and oversaturated colors from uncalibrated LCD TVs. Warmer color temps disaplay a more accurate image. That's why so many are freaking out about the warmer display on the XL.

Edit: Not sure if this has been posted yet, but offers a good look at the 3DS XL. CNET's Review

The Hori "Wow! So Easy" screen proctectors were the easiest I've tried.

So I'll get the same type for the 3DS XL too.

If you have a lot of dust, try putting them on in a bathroom. First steam up the bathroom so all the dust falls to the floor, then put your screen protectors on.

I'm waiting till Christmas. I really want one but I want an all white one. We probably won't get that in the us so I'll wait for a Christmas sale.

This is so incredibly incorrect. Turning white into yellow isn't an accurate image. White is white. Yellow is yellow. Showing a proper white image isn't the result of oversaturation. Good god.

So wait, are the yellowing of the screens an actual feature or a problem with the system?

It's a feature of the screens Nintendo's chosen for the XL series. Same as the DSiXL. My personal preference is the DSi over the DSi XL and the 3DS's temp over the 3DS XL, but as long as you don't continue to use both devices, you'll eventually stop noticing the obvious different in temps. So the answer to your question is that it's a feature(actually a by-product of the tech they chose), but people with screens that are far too warm or who have two screens that are distinctly different in temp have a problem, and those should be returned.

A warmer temp is usually proper calibration, your eyes adjust to any hue it gives off over time.

Warmer temp is a proper calibration, but warm to the point that white stops being white is not properly calibrated. Or good. As the reverse is true that a too cool temp makes white incredibly white but saturates everything else. The DSi was a beautiful temp. The DSi XL, not so much.

Hmm, well I also have a giftcard to Gamestop so I'd rather trade in there.

The Gamestop trade-in deal ends August 26th. So plenty of time to buy an XL from them, verify that the screen isn't scratched, no dead pixels, no incredibly warm screen, no stuck buttons etc etc etc do the transfer from the OG to the XL, and then trade the OG back in for the extra 25 dollars in credit. Personally I'm going with Craigslist to hopefully get about 125-140 for my Purple 3DS.

Thanks for the this. I may actually be able to put screen protectors on without it looking like crap.

Actually, you don't seem to understand color temperatures. That's ok. Most do not. Let me educate you a little bit.

You're just used to cool displays which inaccurately display color. As I said, that's fine. Most gamers are used to uncalibrated cool temp sets. Peruse the AVS forums a bit to gain a better understanding about proper image settings. It's a great place to start learning correct color settings for your displays.

Here's a picture of my 3DS XL screens just to contribute:

There's definitely a change in temperature when compared to my white 3DS, but it is not even close to distracting or "piss-yellow". I can definitely live with this and I barely, if ever, notice any yellow hue.

Yep. That color temp looks quite a bit better than the stock 3DS. Can't wait to get mine on next Sunday!! XD
