IGN: ""How Sony Won Gamescom Before It Even Started"

I'm not saying they didn't do ok

But all I saw as someone who was disappointed in my Vita, was a bunch of stuff that I could have figured out already.

+Call of Duty on the Vita has online play. Yeah, no shit.
+They're making a new Killzone game for the Vita. Because Resistance on the Vita really moved so many units, and that last Killzone game was a real winner.
+PS1 games are going to be playable on the Vita soon. OH BOY! It's as good as a PSP or an Xperia Play now.

Am I missing something? I think it's cool that Most Wanted's supposed to be 'the real deal', and I guess they showed more Last Of Us? That game looks cool, but I am not seeing the real win here. Did they even show the PS3 slim slim?

We get it you take negative Sony news as personal insults. Do you work there or something?

But this article isn't negative Sony news, but some people in this thread sure are trying to turn it into negative Sony news.

The fact is: Sony had a really good Gamescom showing. They showed off some really nice looking games for PS3 and Vita, and showed that they are actively working to improve the Vita's performance through compelling software and some cool cross play promotions. IGN has always used hyperbole, so I don't see why they'd stop with this article.

As a PS3 and Vita owner, I'm very, very pleased with what I'll be playing on the system for the next 6-12 months.

As an Xbox 360 owner, I'm pretty disappointed with what's hitting the system, as there isn't really anything interesting to me for the system outside of a few XBLA games. Retail is a graveyard for me where the 360 is concerned. It would have been nice to see them at Gamescom showing off some stuff, but that didn't happen, so no point in being upset about it, just accept it and move on.

I'm not terribly interested in the PS4 or Xbox 720, so what matters to me is cool software for the existing platforms. As it stands, Sony has the most titles that interest me at the moment. I'm currently building a new gaming PC that should be complete next month, so between my PS3, Vita, and PC, I have a lot of cool shit to look forward to.

This was a good week for PlayStation fans. Let them enjoy it for once.

Well, Sony had undoubtfully a great showing at their conference (the best show this year
not that it was hard !
), with even several new IP's.

But nonetheless this article reeks of fanboyism from beginning to end (the last line killed me). Embarassing even for IGN level. It just seems like mainstream gaming journalism has become for the most part a PR machine, maybe moreso than the companies themselves !

Oh my god, "Gamescom belongs to Sony, as does my heart" is actually in the article... I thought people were talking about a comment or something... damn!

Honestly, Sony did win Gamescom.

They won it by a larger margin than I've ever seen someone win a trade show before. No one else even tried to compete.

It has always been this bad. Years ago it was all about 360. Really easy to tell whos getting the most free games lol.

i dont see anybody doing what you're saying they're doing; what i see is people calling shit corporate cheerleading out. stop looking at wins/losses columns for your favorite companies and actually read the OP.

is this what you believe GAF is for? a feel-good place for platform fans, yeah? perhaps we can edit usernames to preface with SDF, MDF, NDF (lol) etc like other places have, maybe separate forums too?

GAF is not here for that

Just to immortalise it:

How poetic.

There's no denying Sony put up a solid lineup this Gamescom, but the piece reads more as a fan blog.

Oh well at least we got that nifty quote out of this affair which will promptly be ran into the ground within the next couple days everytime gaming journalism or IGN is brought up.

Cross buy does sound really appealing. I plan on buying those games anyway, so if I have multiple free vita games I may buy the hardware.

Read the thread again. Most people are laughing at IGN, not Sony. Though if you have a hard-on for Sony I could see how the replies in this thread are world crushing. And this come from someone that's buying all 3 of the new games shown. Great showing by Sony and lol @ IGN. Oh shit, I just played both sides of the fence. I'm David Blaine y'all!

Gamescom is actually huge, especially when it comes to public attendance. I honestly can't believe so many haven't heard of or are dismissing it.

Though, I in no way support this article or its sentiment. Cross-buy is great, but it's hard to win something when your competitors don't show up.

I was amazed at the games they shown. 2-D that actually looks unique and not like a browser game. Good job.

So many games, gamers should be very happy with Sony and what they are doing.

I have always been partial to good games, and Xbox was always a system I liked but you can only take a whipping for so long. As a gamer, the direction of each is in Sony's favor by far.

I did read the OP. And the article was hilarious. It was in the same vein as IGN's "Oscar Worthy" stuff from the GTAIV review. It's standard in this industry. I just don't see why people go crazy over it and act like there isn't some level of truth in that hyperbole.

Sony did have a good showing, and IGN is stating that, in the way only IGN knows how. Lol. I find it funny and silly. Some people seem genuinely upset that there is a positive Sony article floating around out there. It's weird to me.

As to your second comment: What are you talking about? GAF has PlayStation fans, Nintendo fans, Microsoft (well, more Xbox fans than MS fans), Apple fans. Fans of all sorts of stuff. Usually, when some cool stuff happens for that fanbase, the fanbase is happy and excited, and they talk about how happy and excited they are. Why people that aren't happy that those fans are happy feel a compulsive need to shit on the parade of those happy fans is absurd to me, but it is the internet, so it's expected.

If GAF isn't a place for fans to be fans of stuff, and talk about how much they are fans of stuff (among other things to discuss), then what is GAF for? Being a fanboy, and enjoying being a fanboy is just as much a part of GAF as all of the other stuff.

lol at some people actually sounding angry about this

Sony's show was the best show this year, including those at E3. It was a solid show that covered everything well. Some of you sound as if MS and Nintendo had a chance in winning if they had showed up. Nintendo, yeah maybe. But MS? LOL They could not even beat others at E3, which is their strongest region.

Whether Sony had an impressive show is not the point of contention here.

Come on man, it's not even about "winning" a conference or something. You make it sound like it's actually clear who is and who isn't the winner, while it's all about the games, and not who "wins the show". Sony had a good show and I think most people recognize that in this thread.

I give their showing a D-, slightly higher than Microsoft and Nintendo's showing. But only slightly.

Yes, folks, people like this exist.

So are we focusing on how overly positive nature of the article? It's just media being media. They glorify the good and the bad equally. Well maybe the bad things more so. But the conference really was impressive. Solid support for PS3 with ps4 coming soon (unlike Nintendo which basically abandoned the wii later in its life). Some new games with gameplay for vita from some good developers. Some stuff for the casuals (not gonna lie, I actually might check out the BBC dino thing).

My issue is this, why even bother using an article like this to downplay the good showing they had as many are doing now? It's very silly. EU is sony's strongest region now so it's very good they did well, especially going into the next gen. My comment you quoted was mainly aimed at comments that say things like well they didn't have much competition.

Dear lord I read the rest of the article.

Even though it attempts to be 'fair and balanced' it reeked of fanboy splutter and that lulzy quote immortalised by Mama Robotnik sums it up perfectly.

Have an issue with me and my opinion? Stop being snarky then just directly talk to me, even if you are one of 'those' people

I am not arguing that this article is overly positive. It definitely is. I used the term winning because the article used it. I usually don't as I know it's very subjective and based on personal preferences. It's only about 'personal' winners if you get what I mean.
