3DS XL First Impressions/Previews

Now that everyone has the 3DS does it really make 3DS games look pixely and blurry like initially thought? Or was the whole thing blown out of proportion and the difference is negligible?

Also, since when is Yoshi's Island available on 3DS?

This thread got me wanting the blue 3DS XL almost as badly as I wanted the Wii at its launch, so I bought one today. I haven't had a handheld since the Advance SP, so I guess there is an absurd amount of games I should play. Not sure what those will be.. I have 3D Land and next is Mario Kart 7. Anyway, thanks for getting me on board guys!

Tried Legend of Zelda, looked great. It's nice being able to hold it without keeping your fingers on the shoulder buttons, thanks to the added size of the unit.

I played that game earlier today and it looked fuzzy when the screen was moving. Like on a Gamegear, only not nearly as bad obviously. I was wondering if that was because of the XL screen, the image stretching, the emulation, or what. I don't remember if it was like that on 3DS.

I think the GBA version did it too. Not sure though.

It wasn't blown out of proportion. You can't increase the screen size 90 percent without upping the resolution and expect image quality to improve. Some games look better simply because everything is bigger. Image quality, however, has decreased noticeably. I personally don't care, but I can see where it might bother some.

Really? How do you manually transfer Ambassador games?

They're on the SD card. You move the SD card from the old 3DS into the new one once the system transfer is over. Otherwise you redownload them all from the store onto the new 3DS. The only game related stuff being transferred are the licenses.

You swap the old SD card into the new system. That's 'manual' I guess.

That's the very definition of manual. And if you don't want to use your old card, you need to manually do the transfer by moving all the data off the old SD card onto a PC, and then manually copy all onto the new SD card, and then put that SD card into the new 3DS.

So yea, I need to exchange my XL but I already system transferred it 0_0

Should I

A) Wait seven days, exchange it, and waste two system transfers in the process

or

B) Send it into Nintendo for repairs and how they fix everything just fine?

One of the problems i'm having with it are the pixels on the main screen. Would Nintendo even fix that or put a new screen in?

Not really. No games other than DSiware are transferred. You have to manually transfer the games yourself.

Mine transferred all my games on its own. I'm not sure what you're talking about.

Edit: Never mind saw your second post. You made manually transferring games sound harder than it really is.

They wont fix your 3DS. They'll give you a new one or a refurbished 3DS, and they'll transfer all your stuff to it before sending it back to you.

I'be had a 3ds since launch and enjoyed it somewhat but never really loved it. This is a massive improvement. To me the large screens make such a difference and the system feels a lot better in my hands. I really like the red as well not too garish or anything. I'm excited to play a lot of my older games again in this along with some new ones (got nsmb2 and kingdom hearts with the system today). The GBA games are also very playable in native resolution which is cool.

Girlfriend went out to get me "Q-tips", came back with a Nintendo 3DS XL Red for me... Love this girl!
I'd be sure my wife had lost her mind if that same situation played out for me. I kinda want an XL, but she played the "you don't need one" card on me. I mean she's right. I hate when she's right. Hand cramps - as caused by my 3DS after 10 or 15 minutes - apparently don't constitute necessity.

well, the greater size should help with the cramps, I have big hands and it's quite comfortable, but I think the Vita is much more so

Kid Icarus is so much better on the XL. I can actually play it comfortably with one hand without any cramping. Also, the 3D is so much more engaging with the bigger screens. Love it!!

Went through most of my games and Zelda Oot and MK7 are awesome. Kid Icarus might take the cake though I'm happy to play all these on the big screen. Playing Oot makes me sad we have not got Majoras Mask yet or a proper Metroid game. Sigh....

My boyfriend an I both transferred to new XLs today but as the day has gone on, we've realized we aren't streetpassing anymore.

We have gone into Streetpass plaza and turned the Streetpass off and on again on both units but it still seems that they won't pass one another....

Has anyone experienced this or can suggest something to try?

Not gonna lie, if I can figure out how to do it I would try to transfer ambassador games on my XL

*runs from police sirens*

But doesn't that thing take like 40 minutes, lol I'm not in best buy or gamestop for more then 20 minutes

Has the eight hour window passed?

I was wondering if anyone else has had this problem with handhelds as I have. I'm really interested in getting a 3ds xl, but every other handheld has literally put the lower half of my arms asleep whenever I play for maybe 20 minutes or longer. I was wondering since the unit is larger, maybe I wouldn't have that problem? I'm fine with regular controllers, so I don't know what is up with the handhelds. I never owned a DSxl, but the lite, PSP, and Vita all had the same up issue for me. Any impressions from people who had a similar problem will be helpful! I really want the new Mario!

there's perpetually ambassador 3DS's sold in buy/sell thread: buy one, sell it for a profit on ebay, done! it's how i did it, and these games look glorious on this screen.

speaker comments were legit though, noticed it on Fusion...gonna be using headphones more.

The system is far sexier in person than I realized. Very impressed with it. But I'm shocked at how bad DS games look on these screens. So disappointed in fact that I'm going to continue playing them on my older DS. I hope they do something to patch this at some point.

I recommend a couple therapist, they could be helpful in dealing with communication problems between you and your partner.

Sorry, I don't have a non-jokey answer.

I'll probably take my chances then and go with a Nintendo repair. I'd rather not waste two system transfers.
I've got two dead pixels on mine and I had the same dilemma. Though I'll probably end up waiting the seven days and get a brand new one.

Meh... I really don't know how I feel about the blue

In natural outside lighting, it's deep blue and beautiful, and goes lovely with the black. Gorgeous.

In in-house lighting, it looks aqua and green. Blech.

I will probably switch the plates to Silver or Black once I have the chance :/
