You guys realize that there are quuuiiite a few claims they have to go through right? It's going to be yes for some, no for others. We'll see which way it leans.

Well, this seems to all be going Apple's way. Fucking awful, and anyone who doesn't agree clearly wants a world without competition, where the consumer only has one choice. This is bad news for the entire smartphone world, even if Apple sheep cannot see that.

Seriously. Smart phone industry is going to suck when the only real choice is the iphone and it's shitty ass tiny screen.

So Samsung is done as a company now?

Fuck Apple.

Samsung did this to themselves. What they did with the original Galaxy and Touchwiz was disgraceful and shouldn't be allowed in the United States. Companies get away with that stuff in the black market in Asia.

I am not an Apple fan or Apple user, but I've heard countless people mistake the Galaxy phones for iPhones. This case was a slam dunk for Apple. As a matter of fact I own 2 of the original Galaxy phones and it's laughable how much they went out of their way to make the things look like iOS and iPhone 3G.

Pretty bad for everyone that isn't an Apple fan.

Yeah, but what Apple fans don't realize is that when Apple has wiped out their competition in the courtroom instead of actually competing in the marketplace, they can start charging even more ridiculous prices for their devices, since the consumer won't have a choice if they want a smartphone.

(This is of course a worst-case scenario, but it's undoubtedly what Apple wants.)

No one should be cheering if these bullshit patents are upheld.

If you are an apple fanboy and agree with the silly trade dress nonsense, thats one thing, but these bullshit software patents will kill off the tech industry if something isn't done.

I think it's very interesting to hear about how screwed up the patent system is once the verdict starts to be read. Very interesting indeed.

Come on jury....rule the multitouch stuff as infringed but invalid.

For the trade-dress stuff Apple is in the right, but the multitouch bullshit has to go.

While I agree that Samsung went a bit too far with their iPhone inspiration in some cases, anyone who actually mistakes a Galaxy S for an iPhone is an uneducated idiot. There's really nothing more to it.

If these were samsung's patents people would be in here saying how all is right in the world.

but think of all the time and money I save not having to comparison shop for Samsung phones.

Everyone wants a world with competition, unless their favorite brand is involved.

No unless your a fucking dolt you still want healthy competition. It ensures your brand of choice doesn't just rest on its laurels.

I like apple, have several products from them(typing on an ipad right now) i understand they are just playing the game the system set up, but this is a fucking travesty. The American patent system needs to torn down and rebuilt. Unfortunately the powers to be are so locked in to needing these large corporations money to ever win campaigns that it will probably be decades until something is done if ever.

How can some devices infringe on the zoom functions and the others not?

I saw that, and the fact that is even something that can be patented is ridiculous. Everyone should be able to at least agree that the patent system is kinda fucked, at least in the US.

The bounceback infringement isn't surprising. Seoul court had the same ruling earlier this week.

We won't know the extent of damages (ie. $$$) until later.

I doubt that. Apple just doesn't want people ripping off their ideas. I don't think they'd charge more for it.

Is this a matter of Samsung having to pull these products that have been deemed patent infringements? Or is it just going to result in loads of fines?
