Court set to rule on Apple vs Samsung case in a few minutes

I'm 99% sure I've seen people banned on GAF for posting PM's, but it's been a while and I can't remember if that's a hard and fast/consistent rule, or if it was something specific to those cases (I think it was always on the Gaming side). Regardless of how hilarious it is (I don't know why you would both putting someone on ingnore and doing that, since you wouldn't see a reply PM) I would probably edit that out. Also even if you think he's an idiot, still kind of a dick move.
I dont see how it's a dick move in the slightest.

I don't give a shit about their trade dress/software patent spat. Samsung gets kicked in the nuts for trying to abuse standards essential FRAND patents? Happy days.

hear hear.

lol @ people calling for MT to be banned over that. I know some of you are fans of Samsung and all that, but you're letting your salt get in the way of reasonable thinking. Calling for long-time, quality posters to be banned is...you're in too fucking deep. Come up for air, because you're fucking drowning in bitterness.

Yeah a quality poster = lawlllll galaxy note is so big what a dumb phone derp

I agree...WTF kind of crazy place is this that it bans people for posting messages they receive? You're not allowed to tell anyone if you receive unsolicited messages just because they're "private"? When did he consent?

How fucked?

well, they lost a ton of money. hopefully they'll make some interesting and creative changes in the areas where the violations were found to have occurred, so that they can deliver to consumers a more unique product that can stand on its own two.

debatable

But also, I've recieved hate messages, I delete em right away and block the person. I feel no need to show them off to others.

Thread is off rails, Patents system is completely broken, sky is blue, sometimes.

Can't feel bad for Samsung. The only large corporation who had no shame to go out of its way to produce borderline Apple KIRFs, from packaging to hardware to software to wall chargers, cases, etc. Fuck that. That was unfair to Apple and all the other non-shameless companies that compete for the same marketplace, including the rest of Android OEMs.

yeah samsung was pretty shameless about it. Hopefully this encourages them to design unique products from this point on.

I can't lie though... when the iPhone first released I was working at AT&T and it literally made everything look obsolete around it. I don't blame Samsung or any company for copying to stay in the game. This billion dollar hit is small considering they could have been wiped out of mobile if they didn't copy.

can you find one?

and how is POSTING the PM "a dick move" considering the content of the PM?

Is this how neogafers roll now

My first hate PM ever. Good stuff.

welp, enjoy your gaf vacation for being a dick and posting a private message

Where is it against the rules to post a PM, especially when it's a personal attack?

Phone wars have really become the new console wars, haven't they?

Had that PM just said. I'm ignoring you, I would not have posted it. With the title of the PM being "Dipshit" it was basically asking me to post it.

Damages owed by Samsung:
* $1.05 billion in TOTAL damages

Yeah that 1.05 billion for the Tab 10.1 made no sense at all.

1.05 total seems like an acceptable number, but they should have invalidated those two bullshit patents, then I would have very little complaint with the ruling overall.

That's what's amazing. It's like people are willfully ignoring all the internal Samsung documents that explicitly read like an instruction manual on how to make their phones more like iPhones. The level of cognitive dissonance required to try to pretend that Samsung didn't outright copy the iPhone is beyond me.
Agreed. But suggesting that samsung copied apple on gaf will just make people call you an apple fanboy :/

Samsung loses a landmark patent case, GAF argues over whether PM's are sacred.

None of the phones in the lawsuit matter, they are almost all either off the market already or in the free-$50 tier. Even the $2 billion dollars isn't really important. What matters is that those nonsense patents were upheld, that hurts everyone in the industry.

I mostly weep for the S3; It seems like a nice iPhone alternative. I understand that the precedent is the important takeaway though.

Some people ask "Greatest pc guy of all time, Gates or Jobs?"

I say "Wozniak." ;D
*brofist* Yep, been a Woz fan since I was a kid since he really did all the tech.

He's been doing various EE jobs over the years... his first job out of school, his college roommate started a company doing 3rd party titles for the Atari 2600 called Imagic. My friend Gary was the one who did Demon Attack for Intellivision. Amusing side note there... so he was talking to the engineer at Synaptics about working there and the guy tells him this story about how they've had multitouch in their pads for YEARS and most people thought it was stupid so they just left it disabled in the code. Once it became popular due to Apple, everyone who'd been buying these pads from them wanted that feature and told them "You NEED to add Multitouch to the pads you're making for us!""You want us to add it?""Sure.""Ok, just go into the config file and change this 0 to a 1. Done." lol

i can care less about their trade dress infringement, the only part that i can't understand is the patents for pinch to zoom and bounce back, they should have clearly been invalidated.

It's not happening.

It's faux outrage at it's finest.

yeah. its like MThanded is apple's gaf account and him banned would be symbolic or something. i dunno

Until neogaf allows quotes of a user's post to be blocked, he has no choice but to. Don't fault him for that when he has no choice.

i mean intentionally clicking "read post" even though its blocked. you know he is

I dont see how it's a dick move in the slightest.

It's the equivalent of shitting your pants at school, hiding it until recess so you can tell your teacher, then the teacher runs outside and tells everyone. Hilarious yes, but there should also be some expectation of privacy in a private message. I don't personally care, and there were actually a couple of times that I thought about doing the same thing, but I didn't because like I said I swear I've seen people get banned for it.

This is what's really getting me, some of the software stuff seems absurd that it was held up for Apple. Samsun deserved to get sent to the cleaners on a lot of this stuff though.

yeah this is what has me "enraged" right now. Don't understand why the jury validated them.

If the government is smart they will have already opened up an anti-trust investigation into Apple but i have little faith in that happening.

you sent him a pm so you could call him a dipshit and tell him to grow up....

what is hate mail to you?

seriously.

it takes quite a bitter person to go out of their way to PM someone just to insult them, then say, "i'm going to cover my ears and sing "lalalalalala i can't hear you now".

that's some toddler shit. If you're man enough to insult someone, be man enough to accept what they have to give back in return. Or be a man don't send the message at all.

I've heard similar stories about Synaptic too. They have a lot of gesture controls too.

Amazing analogy. EvilDick shit his pants.
