Got my Hori screen protectors today. Went on very easily! I'm usually terrible at putting these things on.

Impossible to tell, but that's a Big Lebowski poster being reflected in the top screen. ;)

How well cut to size are they? I had some for my OG 3DS. I only used the touch screen one but it didn't exactly go edge to edge. It didn't bother me in the long run, but I wished they had been a tad more snug to the edge of the screen.

Are these adhesive or just static type?

I tried plugging in headphones to my XL last night...nothing. The plug just kept falling out and the sound didn't swap over to the 'phones. I haven't tried it with any other set of 'phones but this is my PSP set I was using and they've been fine for years.

I'm going to try another set before taking it back to the store. Anyone else run into this?

Another thing I've noticed is the bottom piece of plastic at the seam between the SD slot and the stylus slot comes away quite easily. Annoying, as my finger seems to rest on it. Anyone else have this happen or is yours secured better?

Might sound stupid, but...did you make sure it was all the way in? The first time i put headphones in my XL, i had to press pretty hard for it to "click" into place.

The only way to get the US 3DS XL craddle is via Nintendo?

Living in Brazil this becomes basically impossible to get, and I want one to let the 3DS resting on. =/

Try pushing the plug all the way in and then slowly pulling it out until the sound transitions to the headphones.

I checked and mine is also easily detached.

Hori Screen Protector on Amazon

The guide takes a minute to read but it really does allow you to put it on almost perfectly even if you normally aren't good at putting these on.

I can confirm that. The Hori Protectors are quite expensive, but compared to the other shit that is on offer they are the only real alternative.

I got one pair of protectors with my new case, but they were utter shit.

The Hori ones were easy to apply and as long as you make sure you put them on in a dust free environment and wipe the screen of any dust and other dirt, you won't notice them afterwards. They also are the easiest to press out bubbles of air.
Truly amazing.

I did try giving it some very good pressure to see if it would click in all the way. I also pulled the heaphones out until they started getting sound, but the plug was half way out and pushed to one side before it happened.

It does look like there's about a millimeter of plug left not in the port but I really did push quite hard and I didn't get that final mm in.

Just put on a Hori screen protector, it was smooth as butter. You can't even tell it's there.

Mine is the same; if I push all the way in, there's ~1mm sticking out and no sound. I have to pull out the plug just a little bit, so that it sticks ~2mm out.

For people that have both...do you notice the screens being a bit pixelated? I'm trying to decide between a normal 3ds and an XL. I tried out one of each from a buddy but without significant time spent with them it's hard to get a really good feel. I actually think I like the normal 3DS more but I've read some review that say the larger screen makes everything look so much better. However, the first thing I noticed is that it made everything look pixelated.

Keep in mind I will NOT be using the 3D effect. I'm not a fan of it really but there are plenty of games on the system I do want to play.

I don't mind seeing pixels, but, yes, the lower pixel density of the XL means that it's easier for your eye to pick out individual pixels. In my opinion, the screen is an overwhelmingly positive upgrade.

Owned both. I have no idea other than possibly not owning pockets big enough that anyone would choose an original 3DS over an XL. The original is just such a bad piece of hardware. In almost every regard.

Maybe someone can confirm for me. I know it sods neurotic.

In super Mario 3d land, after you finish world 8
and you have a spare silver leaf, on the course selection screen, does the silver leaf have a blak pixel near the top when in 3d? I only see it in 3d and only on that powerup in that position. I'm guessing it's jus an artifact of the icon and not a hardware thing. What would a dead pixel in 3D look like anyway? Like if you had a dead pixel in only one eye?

I'm really tempted to get Cave Story DSi for my 3DS. Someone try to convince me on why I shouldn't do it before leaving on Monday.

I looked online and don't know when CS+ comes out.

Yeah guys, this (not so) little thing is awesome. Just got mine, and it's amazing! It feels so nice in my hands: the build quality, the matte finish, the improved buttons.... It all just comes together. The 3D is great: same sweetspot as the original, but more intense/deeper (thank God for Nintendo rereleasing that Medusa's Revenge short on Nintendo Video: the perfect way to experience the 3D in this thing!). I just need to get used to the lower DPI =/

quick edit: my GF got it for me in Ciudad de Panamá (in a store at the international airport) for US$279. Much better than ~US$600, the retail price here in Brazil :lol

After playing with the XL for a week, I'm becoming convinced that the hidden upgrade to the 3D effect is that it takes less time to refocus on it when looking away and back.

The sweet spot might be the same, but for my eyes at least focusing on the 3D and getting the effect to come in phase is instant.

Might not sound like a lot, but it adds up in practice. Looking between the touch and 3d screen is a lot easier. Regaining focus after the orientation shifts isn't a distraction now.

Mine was ~$450, on mercado livre. It`s still bad, but not as bad as submarino and other big stores.

That's probably the best price you can find here in Brazil. My other option was waiting for it to release in Paraguay (I live very close to that awesome country - for shopping :lol), where it would cost something between $250 and $300, probably.

Also: I just tried using my 3DS again. Goddamn, could those screens be any smaller? ;)

So weird! I was at my boyfriend's today, and picked up his OG 3DS, and my hands and eyes were like WTFFFF! I felt like I was holding some Gameboy Micro variant of the 3DS, it felt so tiny!!! It's insane! It just looked so cute and funny! Have you guys done anything like this? It's almost impossible to think I used to play my games on that. Another thing I noticed, the 3D seems easier to capture on the smaller screen. The 3D feels much more immersive on the XL because of its size, but the size of the 3D screens themselves make it harder to adjust, I find myself losing the 3D sweet spot a lot easier than with the OG 3DS, it doesn't put as much of a strain either. It doesn't bother me though, it's just a matter of getting used to it, but the ghosting that can be made more apparent now is a bit annoying. But yeah, looking at an OG 3DS is crazy after touching an XL for almost 2 weeks now!

There were always framerate issues with the game on the normal 3ds. Mostly in elevators

Yeah, it's okay most of the time but the part I'm at chugs pretty bad. *ch 3. spoilers*
The part in the communication room I think, there's a bunch of zombies plus a bigger boss type thing chasing me around a fairly large area, and a bunch of exploding barrels scattered about.

God fucking dammit. A big dust particle somehow got under the top screen of my XL. Is there any way to remove that other than opening it up? It's super annoying. Thinking about just going in to get an exchange.

Can anyone confirm? It's definitely one pixel.

Just got and put in my Hori screen protectors. So easy to put them in and they look great, love em so far.

Are those generally reccomended for the 3DS XL? Do the screens get dinged up pretty easily? Gonna pick my system up next week at the K-Mart sale and get some free Theatrythmn.

Ok last night I tried again with the same headphones, and I was able to get it to click in all the way. It is a hard click though, definitely doesn't feel like the normal fit.

So now I know that it works, but not well. Should I try taking it back? Does anyone else's XL headphone port work fine? As in not requiring crazy pressure to get the plug in?

The first time I stuck it in it was hard to do (that's what she said) and it made an audible click. Subsequent times were much easier. Guess I just had to pop the cherry.
