North American Vita Compatible PSone Games

Yes! Picked up Tomba! I was really disappointed when it didn't show up on Tuesday since it's the one PS1 classic I've wanted to revisit for a while now. I must have rented it at least 3 or 4 times back in the day, and always had fond memories of it.

I have been doing the same with all my (30) games too. Was playing Resident Evil 2 last night, wide, with headphones in a dim room. So good.

Overall the wide/stretched function is pretty much the only way I will play them now, aspect ratio be damned. On PSP I didn't stretch. On PS3 I didn't stretch. But on the Vita it looks fantastic, and you forget about any kind of squishing very quickly. I would recommend those who think it's blasphemous for others to enjoy it stretched to at least give it a shot on the OLED. Personally playing my games at the normal, or original settings feels neutered in comparison.

The OLED is nice but does nothing to alleviate the fact that the game does not look right and the developer never intended it to be viewed in this manner.

Cutting off the top and bottom is much more acceptable to me, but there are very few games where losing all of that information is okay.

I can't believe that there are multiple people in this thread butchering games in this manner.

OK. In all honesty I have been through most of these games several times, so cut me some slack. Believe what you will, but people aren't butchering the games by doing this. It looks good to us. It's not like we are breaking some canonical law of gaming.

#8: Thou shalt not stretch the screen beyond a reasonable aspect ratio.

I understand the desire to fill dat OLED up completely, but it's not right man. Still, without a custom option, I kinda get it.

hi yosp wheres wake up club

iPad??
Master troll.

Tried to download Resident Evil 3 and I kept getting an error on PS3. Anyone else having a problem? I downloaded like 10 other games before that.

Has anyone bought Arc the Lad II yet? Is it just the main game or is the combo with Arc II and Arc Monster Arena available?
Arc 2 and arena are separate games on the store. I can also confirm that Arc the Lad: Arena will not transfer on vita either way.

Dat OLED

I'm surprised. It just finished downloading for me too and it doesn't show up to transfer either. That stinks since my Vita has a terrible connection to my router for some reason. Oh well, it'll get done eventually.

If anyone notices any "stealth updates" let me know and I'll update the first post again. I haven't heard any word if the tutorial helped, but I'll assume some people have eyeballed it too.

Squashing the aspect ratio is an atrocity. Text and menus especially.

It makes me want to gouge out my eyes with a spork.

Currently downloading:

SotN ~ derp

Legacy of Kain : BO ~ don't remember much about this game. But I know I liked it more than Soul Reaver.

Xenogears ~ wasn't this on two discs? I remembered digging it but never getting far enough to need the second disk. Really looking forward to this one.

Mega Man..
I need a recommendation. What's the best PSX Mega Man?

Strange. Oddworld is accessible on the Vita's store but doesn't copy from the PS3.
It's the same for a lot of the new games, including Grandia. I redownloaded Grandia on my PS3 after it went up on the Vita store and it still was not transferable.

Great this is all getting smoothed out. As soon as Chrono Cross is playable, it'll be time to start saving up money!

Are you on a B/G or N router?

Sometimes enabling certain wireless security actually improves connection and speed. I had to deal with this recently on my home network.

Do PSOne saves upload to the cloud? And if they do, can I pull them down directly onto my Vita? I'm want my Rayman 2 save but it's on my dead PS3 so it's looking like I'm going to have to start over.

Trying to add FF9 but it doesn't show up on Vita during transfer. I have it installed to my PS3, so I should delete it and don't install it on PS3?

^You need it to be the installation bubble - not the game file. Just need to download the installation file again for it to show up on transfers.

this post is making me upset

this post is making me upset

Why? Because I am enjoying my games the way I want to play them. I should have never even mentioned it, because messing with aspect ratios is serious business around here. Guess I should feel ashamed and play the right way to avoid further ridicule. I loved how my post in this thread immediately lead to someone childishly posting in the general vita thread something akin to, "Hey, did you hear about that crazy guy playing stretched in that other thread?! How dare he!"

And why should it matter? I have been through these games many times before across multiple platforms in their proper ratio. People getting worked up over how other people enjoy their games is one of the most obnoxious things around here tbh.

And for once I am finally enjoying my Vita, only to find out I am not playing my games the proper way on it.

because its one of my biggest pet peeves ever. everytime i go to someone's house and see them watching stretched shit on their hd tvs i die a little inside

don't you understand? YOU'RE KILLING ME

Grumpy... serious question, would you watch 4:3 TV stretched to 16:9?

Absolutely not! That is something I would never do. I never stretched any of my 4:3 media in the past. Vita stretched PS1 games are my only compromise. I am making such a big deal out of it because it is something I have NEVER done in the past, yet for some reason I don't mind on the Vita.

But then at least you see why some of us feel that way. Worse, even. But again, without a custom option I kinda get it. Original is too small, zoom too big and normal is just off.

Can I just say that Rayman 1 looks fucking beautiful on this thing. Goddamn, it's better than I could have hoped for. Those beautiful
unstretched
pixels.

Yeah, that pisses me off quite a bit. I remember having to fix my parents TV settings because they had it set to stretched. It was quite icky, especially for a lot of the stuff on TCM that is originally 4:3. But the way I feel about cinema is different than games.

I wish I was better at reading. Don't know why I thought Blood Omen would work. Hopefully it'll be added soon.

Can someone please recommend the best PSX Mega Man to start with? I've never really played one.

Megaman 2 is the best....followed by 3.

I'll start with 2 then. Thanks y'all!
Just sharing this 'cuz somebody posted this in response to me asking how the PSX version of 2 is/was:

There's an original mode which is Megaman 2 as it was back on the nes, only with the added ability to save after finishing a stage. There's the navi mode, which features some minor visual tweaks and stuff. There's also the option to unlock remixed music and a boss rush mode. The only problem is that you might need a guide the first few times you play it (unless youre fluent in japanese) till you memorize the menu options.

You can get by without doing too much with a guide. The top option is the vanilla NES version, the one below that is the updated NAVI mode, O selects, X cancels, and password saves will get you by without knowing much.

There are some cool features that are pretty complicated though, the main one being a bestiary that unlocks data (in Japanese) for each enemy type the more you destroy them, including their weapon weakness. I found this pretty addicting from game to game, but the main pain in the ass is that you have to save the data in the bestiary separately from game saves, it isn't automatic. Loading is though, it will always auto-load your saved bestiary progress when you start the game up.

Oh. I didn't realize what I was getting into. So MM2 isn't on the NA store?

I could get over the menus, but I don't want to have to deal with multiple accounts. Comfortable with that on the PS3 but haven't tried on the Vita.

Its there. Under PS1 imports on the US PS3 PSN store. No need for multiple accounts.

MM 1-4 are on the NA store. They are from the Japanese Imports section on the US PSN, they are Japanese releases that haven't been localized.

Edit: beaten
