I didn't know imessage could manage that, that's pretty cool.
So after one full year with an android device, which I had no real problems with, I'm ready to jump back on the iPhone train. Missing out on too many games that I would want to play and i'm not really utilizing the much larger screen.
I'm just hoping this new one comes equipped with ios 6 installed, which i don't see why it wouldn't, and is fast.

Ugh, but I like universal phone number for situations like I am in right now, where I just sold my iPhone, but I still get iMessages and FaceTime calls on my iPad, even though the SIM is in my wallet.
Airdroid. It's mentioned often in the Android threads of GAF and is in the OP of the apps for Android thread.
P.s icloud**, imessage and facetime are Mac only features which leaves out the 90% of computer users who arent invested in an Apple only ecosystem

Browser Texting is the one I use, MightyText's app is another one out there and there are more that I can't think of off the top of my head.
It's likely it works that way. I can understand some people would be hesitant, I am just pretty sure no one gives a shit enough about me to monitor. Also I imagine there is some sort of encryption or the apps would have been torn to shreds in reviews by tech sites.

Airdroid doesnt work that way numble says as far as I know. There have been questions about the security of iMessage and calls for demonstration of its claimed safety but Apple users dont really talk about that stuff

Welcome to the frantic preorder of iPhones where Apple servers do back to 1999 with constant server timeouts.
It's enough for my purposes and the people I am in contact with. Especially since I currently live in a market where the majority tablet and phone OS is iOS.
I think there are more people using these services compared to the number installing server applications like AirDroid on their phones and computers. There were a billion iMessages per day as of June, for instance.

Won't really matter until they have hardware in hand.. a software exploit can be blocked by a hardware fix, its why the AppleTV3's haven't been hacked yet proper.

Yeah.. which has absolutely nothing to do with my original point, and being forced to create a new number isn't functionally equivalent to having texts to your current # intelligently being sent to devices that you've enabled iMessage on using your Apple ID.
Which is why I have a problem with condescending statements such as 'Uh, buddy you know product X can do this too, right' when in reality that isn't the case at all, at least in terms of functionality for most people.

I'm sorry, what exactly is wrong with the mobile site? It has loads more functionality. I haven't used the Youtube app in ages. And yes, Google will have its own app. I really don't see how this is a bad thing.

The only thing I used jailbreak for was to allow internet tethering on 02 (UK). I've just transfered my service to Virgin Media and internet tethering is already set up in the menu. No additional costs. Fuck you 02.
Apple needs to implement this ASAP.

The only widget I use on my nexus 7 is the clock one to get fast access to my alarms lol. And quick toggles of course.

I have a scrollable Google reader widget for quick headline glance, a weather widget that visually shows which part of the day rain is expected and how much (important for my job), a Google plus scrollable feeds widget to see if anything interesting is being posted, and last, three music players with skip/play controls (gmusic, groove shark, and Pandora). Some of these widgets are sharing a page as well (the music ones work like a rack system).
Widgets may not seem important to some, but blanket statements like them being 90% shit or whatever is silly.

iMessages are encrypted, the text at least. End to end apparently (so no decryption on Apple's servers?).

They're all usable. A lot of complaints people have about ios can be fixed by jailbreaking and installing a few cydia apps. There are so many useful ones that make my ios experience much more pleasant.

I've had my iPhone 4 since launch day and I'm going to just keep it for another 2 years or till it breaks.
As it is now, IMO smartphones have reached their peak. Anything else like bigger screens and CPU is just fluff.

+1 to the quick toggles. Other Widgets haven't been much use for me so far, and I've found I much prefer a well built app. Having a Nexus 7 - whole being a great device - has cooled me on moving to Android on my phone.
Google Now is the only thing I'd like to move to that space, but I don't really keep my web history on so there's not much point. Android has some nice base customization features, but the tablet scratches that itch.
If there's anything I'm going to move from iPhone for at this point it would probably be one of the new Nokias. I'm a little more willing to do that as the iPad would keep me up to date with ios games and apps.

First I've heard of that. Why don't you supply some credible links to these 'security concerns'? iMessage is a million times more secure than regular texting, which is vulnerable to spoofing, regardless of platform. iMessages are encrypted and authenticated, much like BBM. Instead of accusing 'apple users' of 'not wanting to talk' about something, why don't you enlighten us with the sobering truth?
