im hesitating to go Iphone 5 + Ipad mini , Iphone 5 + Nexus 7 , or Ipad mini or Samsung S3/WP8 phone

i think i do need my phone as iphone, since i work with it a lot and im so used to it with some apps. For the tablet now... (already got ipad 3 )

Space out the apps vertically? Nah. If it was a 3:2 4", it would be the same amount of app icons but spaced out in both directions (see iPad), but here it'll simply be an extra row of apps at the bottom.

IMO it's the other way around.

iOS on the iPad could be so much better. It's annoying to me how the menus & the home screen doesn't make use of the iPad's bigger screen size. Very lazy IMO.

Right, but the problem isn't the screen sizes, it's iOS. There's so much potential for the iPad but Apple seems to be afraid of deviating or adding features that would be exclusive to the iPad iOS. For shame, Apple.

the iPhone 5 seems to be the perfect upgrade for those who held off on the 4S with the inclusion of a larger screen, LTE, quad-core, etc. consumerism has become such a part of my DNA that i'm actually contemplating upgrading just to play with the phone for a few weeks/months(?).

Just noticed Tesco Mobile here do 12 month contract deals - looks like that may be my new plan.

That is unless Apple keep offering their "PAYG Starter Pack" options when ordering a phone - they're doing that now for the 4S, I assume that option will disappear when the 5 is available, at least for the first few months, right?

The iPhone 5 - or whatever the hell it's called - looks hot. I'm really keen to see the keynote. Guy at some phone store whipped out some plastic mockup out of nowhere the other day when I was asking about something completely unrelated. Looks cool, and really thin. He seemed pretty proud of himself - it was kind of embarrassing. I'm interested to see how the battery life suffers from the addition of LTE.

Hoping against all odds for some kind of change to the iPad software - it's so powerful but feels so restricted. They let you download alternative browsers, with no way to set as the default like in OSX. Youtube app, but no way to set it to open links by default. I wish they'd relax some of their control of it, particularly given how much potential it has.

That's what I'm thinking too. Hoping I can sell my 3rd Gen 16gb wifi iPad for $400 (with smart cover) and that should cover a lot of the cost.

They did with the 4s and the 4. An unlocked phone paired with a giff-gaff sim will most likely be the cheapest way to get the new iPhone.

The smaller size is part of the new form factor as well as the reduced bezel on the sides. I'm really liking it too. The reduced bezel is something I've wanted for a while but I'm not sure it would work on a regular iPad.

AT&T's LTE is fantastic, if you're in a city which has it. If not, Verizon's probably the better choice.

Looking good! Getting tired of my 1st gen iPad crashing all the time so upgrading to this when it comes out. 8 inches is fine for some youtube videos and light gaming.

The curves are more prominent (which is less appealing imo) and the vertical bezel width isn't equivalent to the top bezel's, as it is with the current iPads.

Not to mention general size being (seemingly) just wide enough to fit in-between your thumb and fingers single-handedly.

That's what they mean by 'new form factor'.

Unlocked yes, but at the moment they have an option for a Pay as you Go sim and first month's credit at around £15. This way I could make sure I get the right sim card etc, not sure which carriers will do sim only nano-sims on day 1.

no Apple just like using colors in their banners. If anything the bands being stretched icons hints at the taller screen.

You hold a smaller device differently than a big one, so sort of makes sense that the bezel would adjust a bit accordingly.
