Troll? Seriously?

I own virtually every single Apple product other than the Mac Pro. I own significant amounts of Apple stock. I love Apple

My point was referring to the fact that Apple rolls

The iPhone is a relatively mature product at this point. We've seen a bunch of leaks this year and none of them point to a revolutionary change of course. This is playing out very similarly to the iPhone 4S reveal, suggesting that we shouldn't expect any unexpected changes (outside of subtle/hidden/software flourishes). They're iterating on fine touches on the iPhone at this point, because it's nearly perfect at what it currently does.

And that's unlikely to change until (or if) they hit the reset button on it (just like they did with, say, iMovie or the Retina MacBook Pro).

Do ya own these:

Question:

What do you guys think is more enjoyable?

Being stuck in contracts so that each iPhone that you get will be a new "whole number" model or being stuck in contracts in which each new iPhone you get is an improved "S" model?

Just asking.

3GS was a great phone, it just that they followed it up with the 4 and that was a even greater phone. the 4s is just like the 3G to me =(

I'd say whole. More hype because, chances are, it's a brand new toy.

Yeah I agree.

Part of the reason why I'm thinking about getting the 5 even though I have a 4S. My 4S is basically full and I would really love to have a 64 GB model.

Selling my 4S would cover the breaking-out-of-contract costs (and maybe even a little bit over that to use to buy the phone itself).

This is the first Apple event in a while that I'm not overly excited for. I'm more than happy with my 4S. Only thing that could really get me excited is if they have taken the nano watch idea and made an actual watch that can connect with the phone and play mini games. but I'm not holding my breath.

I'd say whole. Mostly cause by having the new hotness its easier to resist the S as its just improved on the design you've already got.

I went from 3G, to 4 to 4S (lost the 4 in a bar) and the 4 was the biggest leap forward. If I was stuck with a 3GS I would have broken my contract.

Depends on what the phone is really bringing to the table for me. I own most of them just because I develop for them but this ended with the 3GS. After that, I skipped the 4 and picked up the 4S. More than likely I will go with the off-cycle "improved" phone unless there is a critical feature that requires owning the whole number revision.

I base this primarily on a loooooooong history of how Apple revs their hardware. There was an old joke that you never -ever buy the first revision of any Apple product and over the years it has proved to be true with the 1st revision being the compromise while they try to get the device that they really wanted.

But do you love love Apple? Why would your original comment even have a hint of negativity...
It literally took 20 seconds, and I wouldn't talk about 'too much time' when you spend time chronically posting about a company you dislike, and literally stalking me in this thread. And I couldn't care less what you own. Almost every Apple troll post on the internet spreading FUD ends with OH BTW IM POSTING THIS ON A MACBOOK PRO. I'm judging you by your comments, and the handful of Apple related posts in your recent history have all been negative in some way. That usually means the person is agenda driven, otherwise, you know, there'd be a couple positive ones in there somewhere, just maybe. It's tough to believe an objective, rational person using critical thought just so happens to dislike every single aspect of a company, everything from OS to the lawsuit situation, to feigned outrage over China, to their hardware, etc etc. But yeah Apple's your best friend and all that, and by the way you're posting from a Macbook Pro. Gotcha.

What size? Over 16 GB would probably still sell well.

Haha, it's 16GB. Damn.

Sold mine for 300

About 8/10 condition

Wow, great price. How long ago was this? I would say mine is around 8/10 aside from the rear camera lens which is unfortunately a bit scratched up and makes photos blurry. Been putting off getting a quote for a repair in fear of it costing an arm and a leg (AppleCare ran out a while back).

If Apple's conference does not blow my mind, I'll be getting the Lumia 920. C'mon Apple!
I don't understand how anyone could have their mind blown at this point. Everything has leaked. The real story is the one or two things that haven't leaked, and I guarantee it won't be enough to be earth shattering.

My iPhone 4 is ready to be upgraded! Can't wait to see my new phone! Yaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay! Amazing week, iPhone 5 revealed and then going to Vegas for the weekend to watch my Cougs take on UNLV! Woooooooooooooo!

DAD IS THAT YOU?

My father owns pretty much every Apple product except the Mac Pro. His G5's get mistaken for them, though.

It's not justification. It's just reality. While you may be ready to spend an additional 2-4x the cost... 99.9% of the world is not. Just look at the backlash the Google Nexus Q received for being priced at $299.99.

Until the world evolves and human beings actually fundamentally become more conscience of the world they live in... we'll get child labor abuse making $200/250 on-contract smartphones.
You don't think that any of the complaints about the nexus Q had to do with the lack of real functionality out of the box?

I would gladly pay $200 more for an iPhone built in America. Apple is the master of marketing to the masses, and I honestly feel a model sold alongside the usual models showcasing its heritage would be purchased by plenty in this country. Yes it will be expensive, but it has to start somewhere, and it's not going to come from a smaller company or a Korean company.

Well, you can go back to the thread. I was addressing specific points that you made. You somehow think that Apple can do more because they have "more influence." The only things Apple can change is with their supply chain, they can't fix Samsung's supply chain, and that's evident with the current abuses in Samsung's China operations despite Apple's changes. Samsung and other manufacturers did not make any changes after Apple did, they did not join the FLA or open their factories up to independent auditors. They are not leading the way in changes to the industry--they are leading the way in changes to their own supply chain. Others are not following. And Samsung's supply chain in China is so large that they own at least 6 factories in China.

It hasn't even been a year since they joined, has it? Changes are going to take time and I don't think any other companies will fully embrace it until we see that Apple can really make the improvements work long-term. I'm honestly curious how long it took for other apparel brands to follow Nike's lead as well.

I said it's no surprise that people don't care about Samsung's practices. But I don't think we should expect anyone to be a crap employer.

Of course we shouldn't expect it but I don't think that's quite the reality. I guarantee you people respond differently to Samsung using "slave" labour versus Apple. Would you be shocked if the products that Walmart carries were made with slave labour? Like I said, I think image has a lot to do with what people expect from companies.

It all comes down to whether you care about workers or whether you care about specific brands. If you care about the conditions for workers, you would push as many companies to adopt better practices as possible. If an activist group launches a campaign against a manufacturer, you'd take that opportunity to press for change. Even if Samsung doesn't care about its workers, it starts caring when facing a PR debacle. China Labor Watch is trying to create a PR debacle for Samsung, but it doesn't seem to be catching on with the public. If you only care about the brand, you only care about specific brands treating workers well.

Well yeah, of course. everyone should push for better standards. Should Samsung or whomever else get heat for producing in China under poor conditions as well? Of course.

All I'm saying is it makes sense to target the market leader. There's a reason why Microsoft is THE target for software monopolies, why Nike is THE target for child labour, why Walmart is THE target for displacing local stores/low wages/etc.

Excusing horrible labor practices like forced underage student labor, requiring workers to pay to get hired, gender and age discrimination, forced and excessive overtime, because you "expect that they're a shit employer?" No, you shouldn't expect any employer to do so. Even if they have profit that is in the billions, but fewer billions than Apple.

And I just don't like the phrase "singled out." It literally means ignoring others, and I don't think they should be ignored.

Not excusing anything. I'm saying Apple is the correct company to target. If I'm a betting man, I put all my money on Apple being THE company that'll change things (if it ever happens).

Edit: Please PM me if you want to keep going as I don't think anyone else is interested in this argument besides us. And I really don't want to check back on all the pages I missed tomorrow morning.

Larger display, LTE and thinner case are about as much as you can ask for in one generation. Don't get your hopes up on some other insanity.

Thinner, unibody construction + LTE + bigger screen + software wildcards

There will be lots of sorely disappointed people loudly voicing their disappointment tomorrow.

Hey Zeth, will people be complaining about the phone tomorrow? I haven't heard any predictions yet.

It hasn't even been a year since they joined, has it? They've worked with them for over a year, have implemented changes before joining the FLA (just look at the wage raises and OT reductions in 2010 and 2011 following the suicides--Apple joined FLA in 2012). The other companies have not followed that lead in the 2 years since. That's why I said Samsung 2012 is still worse than Foxconn 2010.

Adidas, Eddie Bauer, Levi Strauss and Co, Liz Claiborne, Nike, Phillips-Van Heusen, and Reebok all joined the FLA at the same time.

I actively work in China labor rights so I'm familiar with what goes on at WalMart suppliers. I do what I can to help improve labor rights at those companies.

That's a false comparison. I think they've targeted Microsoft fairly--there's no other OS monopoly.

Nike was targeted along with other companies. Even Kathie Lee Gifford's clothing line was targeted. There's a reason why Bill Clinton's task force on apparel manufacturers was not focused on Nike, and why all those companies joined the FLA at the same time.

I think big box stores are targeted pretty equally in terms of the amount of impact. There are more WalMarts, so there's more against them, but Home Depots and other big box retailers are targeted each time they try to open up. Nobody says, "Hey, let's ignore this smaller big box retailer, we should just single out WalMart, they're the biggest!"

Not excusing anything. I'm saying Apple is the correct company to target. If I'm a betting man, I put all my money on Apple being THE company that'll change things (if it ever happens).

They can only change things in their line. They have been putting in changes since at least 2010. I don't see anyone following in line. It's time to stop giving other companies a pass, especially if they employ more workers and have more power to directly implement changes.

If you are holding up Nike as the example, its a false example, since tons of companies were and still are targeted as well, including things as small as the Kathie Lee clothing line or as big as Adidas.

If I'm a betting man, I say we can get more companies to change if we focus on more companies. Focusing on Apple only gets Apple to change.

Can't get my head around people who have pre ordered a phone or know a phone will be their next phone, before its even unveiled for the first time.

Apple has a pretty good track record for phones, and when you know you like iOS, it makes an Apple phone the obvious choice.

Well if they want an iPhone and need to upgrade, what are they gonna do?

Upgrade to a new phone? It isn't like it HAS to be an iPhone. But I certainly understand why people would automatically be excited about a new iPhone even if they haven't heard anything about what it will be.

Can't get my head around people who have pre ordered a phone or know a phone will be their next phone, before its even unveiled for the first time.

Why?

Most know what to expect based on all of the news these past few weeks.

It isn't like nothing at all has been said about the next iPhone.

Oh man, the last few pages have been ugly. Wtf is wrong with some of you. Yeesh.

This thread should just be locked until a few hours before the event starts.

So people who are already invested with apps and such will just switch to a new phone?

If you've only owned iPhones then things that seem old hat to users of other smartphones are gonna be new and exciting. LTE! 4" screen! NFC! It would be like PS3 owners getting cross-game chat and full game installs.

last minute predictions for fun:

720p screen (standards, whoo!)

4 - 4.2 inch screen

high clocked dual core, awesome graphics

lte

back button

the big feature will be some sort of seamless integration thing

pretty safe bets. gnight.

Panoramic mode has been in the code for a long ass time now, so for them to not finally 'enable' it would be idiotic imo. I think the only reason they didn't do so already is because they've been saving it for iOS 6.
Not just saving it for iOS6, but making it iPhone 5 exclusive because older devices can't handle it, LOL. (I hope they don't go that route.)

The is possibly one of the less hyped Apple phone events in some time.
I mean the build up to the reveal of the phone itself, not the actual hosted keynote.

That made no sense, sorry.

How many apps that you have bought do you currently use on a daily basis?
I just checked this - not a single one. But i don't think I'm as invested in apps as some here :P

if we're going pie in the sky, how about a new A6 based on ARM15. and an igzo display

also, music streaming service beta only on new iphone

LOL, that guy's been goofing around the entire thread. Some crazy confrontations have gone on when things have been taken too seriously in this thread.

Sure you could. Why not? Many won't, but they could.

How many apps that you have bought do you currently use on a daily basis?

I use a $100 app and a $25 app on a daily basis, then there's Tweetbot, an iOS exclusive that is $10 to use across iPad/iPhone but worth much more. Most people that frequent the iOS Gaming thread (like Wario64) also have a huge game backlog.

And then FreeMyApps is another "exclusive" feature for me. I've racked up over $200 in gift certificates through them.
