North American Vita Compatible PSone Games

Still can't decide between Medieval and Twisted Metal 2
Half of me is holding out for a sale

Twisted Metal 2 is still really fun if you grew up with it. Half the appeal for me was the split-screen co-op, so maybe Medieval would be a smarter bet. Either way, you get the game on Vita and PS3 with one purchase.

Anyone care to list the new additions?

They were all added to the first post, but you can read them on the PS Blog or below:

PS1 Classics (added to PS Vita Store)
Reel Fishing
Reel Fishing 2
Harvest Moon: Back to Nature
Dirt Jockey
TNN Motorsports Hardcore 4×4
Perfect Weapon
Ten Pin Alley
Reloaded
Mass Destruction
One
N20 Nitrous Oxide
Dead in the Water
Monster Bass!
Sorcerer’s Maze
XS Moto
Jigsaw Madness
XS Junior League Soccer
Mobile Lightforce
XS Junior League Football
XS Junior League Dodgeball
XS Airboat Racing

I don't own any of those games. I haven't even heard of most of those. Oh well, it's not like I don't have 1000+ hours of JRPG goodness already on my Vita to keep me busy.

does the save transfer between Arc the Lad 1 and 2 work?

I can't imagine why not. You might have to take the Arc the Lad 1 save and put it onto the Arc the Lad 2 virtual memory card, though.

Name me some sweet ps1 games that aged well. So pretty much 2d stuff with barely any loading lol :)

If you page through this thread you'll find a bunch of people recommending:

Castlevania: Symphony of the Night
Klonoa
Final Fantasy 7, 8, and 9
Metal Gear Solid
Resident Evil 2
Arc the Lad
Grandia
Tekken 2
Abe's Odyssey & Exodus
Tomba!

I have a soft spot for Twisted Metal 2 and Jumping Flash, myself.

After this most recent store update, I am no longer alright with Sony's abuse of the word classic. A line has been crossed.

Alundra
Castlevania:Symphony of the Night
Oddworld games
Tomba!

A couple other unique games that aren't purely 2D that have aged nicely and have little loading are Vagrant Story and Front Mission 3.

I can confirm that this works. You will need to go into the memory card menu and manually copy it from the Arc 1 virtual memory to he Arc 2 virtual memory.

Interesting that I just noticed this thread for the first time.

First thought: Hey, I should do this for Crono Cross! Been meaning to play that again, after all this time.

Views thread: d'oh!

Still not compatible?
I wonder if anything else is worth it.

edit:
Is there any way to do the same for PSP games you have on disc or PSN games?
Be nice to finish Tactics Ogre or Vandal Hearts Flame of Judgement one day.

how do 2d ps1 games look on vita?

And is it possible to map L2 and R2 to the front screen? Always find rear touch to be awkward.

2D ps1 games look effin amazing. Something like Alundra which is a kind of mediocre looking 2D game looks fantastic. Dat oled and such.

Don't think you can map the front L2 and R2 sorry.

oh yeah... still haven't finished SotN....

how is the psn version? Am a bit confused which is the 'definite' version to play due to it appearing on quite a few systems.

I do think I still have that dracula x chronicles UMD around somewhere...

Either version is great, I think it comes down to what is important for you.

Off the top of my head, the only things different in the Dracula X Chronicles are:

New voice acting
New playable character is unlockable
Maria
Certain glitches fixed (you most likely wouldn't run into these glitches during normal gameplay anyway)
Less screen size options
Extra familiars to equip

I think that's it. I prefer the PSone version if only for the fact that you get more screen size options in the emulator and the original voice acting is intact. It was cool hearing the new script though on Dracula X.

I still can't believe Suikoden II hasn't been released yet.

You're telling me. I don't want to use my disc anymore out of fear of it being damaged, being a collector's item and all, I want them all digitally so I can keep my copies of all the Suikoden games pristine. I'd buy Suikoden II DAY ONE. It's the best RPG I've ever played, easily one of the best games I've ever played as well.

I shall have to add that it's hard to push buttons with Suikoden, much like how people are having trouble with Final Fantasy VIII in this thread. You have to jam on them HARD for a good input sometimes.

I have to wonder if you weren't also touching the back touchscreen buttons at the same time? I notice if I am accidentally pressing the back touch screen, that pushing the actual x button doesn't do anything.

If I make sure that my fingers aren't on the back touchscreen everything works perfectly. Just wanted to put that out there in case this was holding anyone back from this game. I will update as I play more, but so far I am a few hours in and the ONLY time I don't see responsiveness from the buttons is if I am touching that back touchscreen.

Just transferred Parasite Eve. Castlevania Chronicles next :D

This will be good, like the days back then, with a bit more OLED.

Some more good news from the PlayStation Blogcast (a pretty solid podcast, if I say so myself).

Looks like they're officially adding a bunch of PSone games this Tuesday to the Vita storefront:

2 Xtreme
Backstreets Billiards
Bowling
Coolboarders 3
Crimson Room (?)
Destruction Derby
Jet Moto 2
Jumping Flash!
Jumping Flash! 2
Medieval
Metal Slug X
Rally Cross
Snowie: The Bears Adventures
Syphon Filter 2
Syphon Filter 3
The King of Fighters 99
Warhawk
Wild Arms 2
Wipeout

...so jealous.

-(EU)

I'll trade you either for Driver. Sound good?

Just give me Vagrant Story and Metal Gear Solid, damn it!

Ahh my memory card won't forgive me if I buy it too..but it's on sale here iirc.

I dunno, will it hold up? It was pretty painful driving that thing from what I remember..

Yes, N20 is an awesome arcade game btw, takes a little while to get used to but some really trippy fun levels and gameplay. Worth it if it is cheap, only 97mb too.

I was kidding about trading in the literal sense. I just want Driver on the PSN. I actually still own it on disc.

Maybe I should try it via remote play and see it the Vita flatters it at all.

Lol I got that :P I would though. I meant it has been on my mind as well - been tempted by it but have been trying to hold off. Would be nice to play again ... I think?

Backstreet Billiards are great, maybe the physics is outdated compared to modern pool game like hustle kings, but more than just the gameplay itself, the story mode in backstreet billiards is great, it's like a visual novel adventure, set in a world where people challenge you to billiard match to settle conflict rather than violence, it's fun and ridiculous, but most important, it give your opponent a personality. there's also the collectible element to it so that it's not a simple series of match.

it's been awhile since I play it so a bit fuzzy about the story, but I think the premise is that you're looking for your father's legendary cue that got stolen when you're still a kid.

(cross post from the Vita thread) Wow, I'm finding 'Harvest Moon: Back To Nature' incredibly addictive! This afternoon I put in like 5 hours without even realizing where the time went. I love games like this, simple yet engrossing life simulators where I immediately "get" what's happening and what I need to do. There's something so satisfying about what at first glance seems so mundane: clearing farmland, planting and selling crops, mining, upgrading tools, etc. Great fun!

Bought Arc the Lad and I'm loving it so far, is there anything that I HAVE to do before I go and play Arc 2 or what

You don't HAVE to, but you can score some nice swag if you do the optional
50 floor dungeon. (Well... 100, because you have to go back through them to get out).
You can migrate your save data to Arc 2.

Actually, Jumping Flash! 2 didn't get added to the US Vita store. It's not listed in the PSOne classics section, and I couldn't find it by search, either.

It's there. I'm looking at it on my Vita store right now.

It's up for me now, too. They must have put it up literally seconds after I posted that, LOL. It definitely wasn't up when I posted, because when I searched for "Flash" it came up with 5 results at first, and now the same search gives 6 results.

'Klonoa: Door to Phantomile' looks and plays great! It's hard to believe it's 14 years old.

I've found you really can't judge how PSone games look on Vita by watching YouTube videos. It's too bad the Vita doesn't have some sort of video out option.
