They should live stream to Apple TV.
That would be great. Speaking of apple tv. What's this concert series channel that randomly appeared this month on the apple tv interface? Anyone watch it/know what it is? I haven't updated the firmware this month and I didn't know apple could push new channels without a firmware update? Could have sworn Hulu and other new channels needed firmware to be added.

Off topic but this thread is in the shitter anyways so let anarchy reign!!

It's still better on the dev platform.
If I transfer my license to an Android phone, I do not have a license for the iPad.

You've tried the Android versions? You're probably one of the most knowledgeable to compare the state of the Android version since you've been using the iOS one for so long.
I'm not suggesting that you of all people should/would switch

For the first time in a long time, I'm excited at what they'll show. Hope iPod classics get some update too.
Mind if I ask why? I'm the exact opposite. iPhone owner since the 3G, always loved these announcements and was always excited by what would come from it etc, but this year I couldn't be less interested.

If they do any updates, it will be removing it from the store.
Hope not! I love my iPod classic, first of all 64GB is enough for my music collection, but more importantly I like having a more robust device for doing the kinda jobs I wouldn't want to use with my phone. For example gardening, mowing, washing the car etc etc... the iPod classic is absolutely perfect for that.

I feel blah about the thing, which is weird as I'm usually wetting my pants like a good little fanboy. There doesn't seem to be anything really interesting on the cards. I hope there's some surprise that hasn't been spoiled :-/

last minute predictions for fun:

720p screen (standards, whoo!)

4 - 4.2 inch screen

high clocked dual core, awesome graphics

lte

back button

the big feature will be some sort of seamless integration thing

pretty safe bets. gnight.
Haha, not even close.

iPhone Predictions

Predictions

The New iPhone (suck it iPhone 5)
-Unibody thinner
-Slight battery life improvements
-4G LTE Network
-Upgraded Camera 8mp, f2.2, faster shutter, better illuminated back sensor, and new panorama mode
-New Dock Connector Cable with USB 3.0
-New A6 Chip - (Not shown 1GB Ram)
-New earbuds
-New 4 inch screen 16 x 9
-Surprise software announcement

Surprise software announcement prediction (unique to new iPhone)
-New app?
-A dev will come out maybe epic and show off games on the new 16 x 9 screen
-More apps on your home screen
-A specific feature relating to having a taller iphone and why we will love it (Wild guesss: dynamic resolution for apps allowing for apps to shrink down to iphone 4s size when notifications come in to not block any information on the screen.)

Every iphone has had something unique to it. These aren't features, they are benefits. All the new hardware will mean nothing if there isn't a compelling reason to have it. Apple will show off why we want a faster, more powerful device with a larger screen in a specific software user related way. I guarantee it. This is the only thing I think we don't know about yet.
This is accurate. Not really what predications of your own, though, as everyone knows the listed. But that's probably what will go down, from our current knowledge.

'Earpod' for the headphones is genius. That's exactly what they look like. :lol

It's like they wanted this stuff to be ready for ML but ran out of time so they held it back. Looking forward to the Messages stuff.
They kind of had to for most of that stuff. Like the facebook integration, we've know that's been held back for a long time simply for iOS 6. Same thing with the iMessages working with # texts. That's iOS 6.

I'm excited because I will finally upgrade from my iPhone 3G hopefully.

If it can open maps in under 5 minutes, I'll be happy.

My last iPhone was 3G from a long time ago, I lost interest in iphones because it had a small screen compared to others and thought the os was outdated compared to android.

This is about as ballsy as predicting you'll get wet if you go outside when it rains.

I have noticed that my Apple TV turns itself on and off, sometimes 3 or 4 times at night.

Maybe they are sneaking in updates that way?

Besides the worse UI and fonts, and bugs, the developer likes iOS more than Android:

In 2011:
In general I like iOS a lot better than Android, but the Android version is pretty close to the iOS version features-wise even now, and once we get a few missing features like flashcards implemented it'll be very close indeed. The iOS version looks prettier than the Android one, and will look prettier still soon, but functionality-wise the finished versions should be pretty close - the only major feature on the horizon that's likely to be iOS-only for a while is online flashcard sync / backup (via iCloud), but it's entirely possible that Google might roll out their own competing service for that at some point that we could tap into to offer equivalent functionality on Android.

In 2012:
There's been quite a bit of email lately concerning the slow pace of recent updates on iOS, and specifically the fact that the big UI revamp which we've been talking about for a while now is still not finished. The reason for the delay is simply that it took a lot longer than expected to finish our Android app; since late summer we've been working on little else besides Android, and in fact for most of the past year (since the last major iOS update, 2.2.2, came out in February '11) it's been occupying the majority of our programming time. While certain aspects of Android are very programmer-friendly, there's a lot of hardware / OS fragmentation (many more manufacturers / screen sizes / processor speeds / memory capacities / file storage configurations / camera resolutions / etc), and also a lot more hardware-specific bugs - iPhones certainly have hardware bugs too, but we only have to deal with one new model of those per year, while on Android there are several dozen. (8 of the top 10 devices in use among our beta-testers didn't exist when we started developing our Android software)

Long-term it's likely that there will be more iOS-exclusive features than Android ones. For example, in the next big update iOS is getting EPUB and PDF reading support; Android may get both eventually but they were vastly easier to implement on iOS which is why it's getting them first.

Didn't Arment make similar statements even though most of the featureset of instapaper can be implemented much easier on Android? I.e. Share to Instapaper, instead of bookmarklet and geofence hack for background updating.

Some people get more attached to a particular dev environment than to another, much like some people prefer java to C# and phyton to php, etc.

I was hoping for an actual review not developer pr points. The developer went from *never making an android app* to "*not making an android app in a long time* to *well the ios app is better than the android app*. I notice a trend :P

Not the same as E3-

I didnt go into E3 feeling "Im worried about how much 2 of these games/systems are gonna cost"

(buying 2 of the top end phones for me and the wife as our ancient phones desperately need an upgrade)

Ugh. Idiot on Today Show spreading misinfo about the iPhone 5 specs. Says they're using micro USB. Lol.

Also says same camera, different lense for better focus. No one know's this yet!

Edit: lol Valkyr

I think that fingerprint sensor maybe combined with NFC will be the new unique selling point like Siri before.

Its very inline with Apple's methodogy (ie implement a feature that actually works, market the hell out of it, shows well in ads, cue haters saying Apple didnt invent finger scanners even though no one really does it well) Or it might just be wishful thinking like the haptics thing on retina iPad.

Edit. It's not that comical. Far fetched sure.

http://gigaom.com/apple/pre-merger-apple-authentec-were-working-on-new-tech-together/

Fingerprint tech would work in conjunction with passport and NFC in future to authenticate purchases without requiring to unlock the phone or even enter a pin
Iike you do with a card now. Just swipe the sensor with your finger on the home button and done. If its accurate tech there is no way faster and more secure. I think this will happen its just a matter of when.

Doesn't the 6 look like contours of a fingerprint ?

We're barely sure NFC will make it in this one, the fingerprint nonsense is borderline comical.

No more blurry iPhone 4S pictures? Yes please.

Not sure why you would need fingerprint technology.

How much do you know about Chinese typography? If you know a lot, just look at the screenshots of iOS v. Android versions of Pleco. If you don't know about them, you'll be as oblivious as Chinese companies using incorrect Western fonts when they make iPhone fakes.

I think having features like ePub and PDF support sooner are worth it. I was one of those that asked for a ePub support (for a friend).

Here's a bug report thread for you to wade through:
http://www.plecoforums.com/viewtopic.php?f=20&t=3084

A lot of it relates to how cameras are different across devices:
Seem to be universal and driver-related; for example, their OpenGL driver doesn't clear its background buffers properly (reports on developer forums suggest this applies to just about every HTC model, but Samsung and Motorola devices clear them correctly, and FWIW so do iPhones). And their camera driver adjusts its resolution without telling us and, when queried about which resolution it's currently using, reports the wrong resolution - we literally have some code which checks to see if the frame of video is the correct number of bytes for the resolution the camera says it's using and, if not, makes a guess based on commonly-supported resolutions as to which resolution it's actually using. Other devices certainly have bugs too, but at the moment our impression is that the HTC ones seem to be the most numerous / severe.

UI, I don't really like the iOS UI, but the Android UI is even less elegant:

Think that was proven fake weeks ago.

I don't have any Apple products but I really enjoy these things. Can't wait until 1!
