Resident Evil 6 - Review Thread | Activist Reviews and the Hate Patrol Destroy Truth™

There's a defense force and offense force for every game. I bet there's no game that everybody like or everybody dislikes. =)

Also, I'm part of the defense force. =D

Yeah.

I was honestly kind of surprised by that. Usually whenever anyone mentions the meme of games journalists being paid off or in the pockets of publishers and advertisers, Jeff has, in the past, come out and said that that's all nonsense conspiracy theories.
Slip of the tongue.

The brainwashing is fading off.

have you never heard the phrase "less is more"? And 20 hours of mediocre, QTE-infested action does it no favors vs it being 10 hours long.

I still don't think ragging on a game for being long is a good idea. Maybe the gameplay is good, maybe it's bad, I haven't played the game and I don't know. But I would much rather know I'm getting a 30-hour campaign for my $60 than the industry standard 6-hour campaigns we see everywhere.

One of my favorite games of all time is NOLF, which was a good 20-hour campaign. Whatever happened to that? If you don't enjoy a game, you won't like it whether it's 6 or 20 hours. If you do like the game, then more is more.

I don't understand why there is some sort of canon of games everyone should like. Jeff has terrible taste in food but I have no reason to question his taste in videogames.

What's so intelligent about walking through a set piece?

You don't use Pi to calculate which monster closet enemies will pop out of next? It might be left, it might be right...I JUST DON"T KNOW!

I'm on a coffee rush and am not talking about RE6 btw. Just being silly.

I think Jeff has a lower opinion for European journos. I think he might have noticed that this game is getting a stronger reaction in Europe.

Critically well received.

Have you never encountered something that seems repetitive? Gameplay mechanics that are fun for a few hours sometimes cease to be if you have to do them over and over.

I know you guys hate metacritic but it's pretty funny to see the scores of the two platforms for the game. Hahahahaha.

Hm. I'm gonna play it before I decide to hate it.

I'm not gonna hate the game just because a lot of reviewers do. Heck, I might even enjoy it.

I definitely have, FFXIII comes to mind for instance. But generally I prefer long games because I feel like I'm getting more bang for my buck, and I'm not a multiplayer person. These days most campaigns get short shrift in favor of multiplayer suites, and I get really happy whenever a game takes the opposite strategy.

* Lastly, I really don't get the glee with which some people are handing out/receiving some of these bad reviews. Why are people so invested in seeing something get shat on? There are some really vicious things being said (many of which by people who really ought to know better), and for the life of me I cannot understand what people are getting out of this? Disappointment and caution I can wrap my head around, but some of the gloating vitriol does suggest some kind of agenda at work.

Hating on RE6 and Capcom is the cool thing to do this fall. Better jump on the bandwagon or risk being called a troll for liking a game.

more is definitely not more all the time. Things that were once entertaining can wear out their welcome. Ideas can be streeeeeetched to increase game length, game mechanics start to show their strings with repetitive levels/enemy design/boss design so far into the game, etc. Very rarely does an action game have enough quality material to warrant a 20 hour runtime. RE4 was one. RE6 seems like it isn't.

You either enjoy playing something, or you don't. As you say making something longer doesn't help, but how can it hurt by the same token unless there's some external factor FORCING you to persevere past the point where you've had enough?

Its a nonsensical complaint for anyone living in the real world. Its like going to a banquet and bitching that there are too many courses on the menu. Why are you forcing yourself?

In this game's case, where its structured into several smaller scenarios, that analogy is very much on point.

The way Capcom is treating Mikami and Kamiya's IP's I gotta say it is poetic justice. Nothing would please me more than the franchises getting critical praise and sales success but not as shooters or generic action games, but as titles that stay true to the nature of the games while at the same time evolving.

Kind of a Killer 7 situation; there were reviewers who hated the game with all their guts, but others adored it. Me being belonging to the latter.

It wouldn't surprise me if I like it. I love Resident Evil, but my confidence in the series took a hit with 5. Allthough it returned with Revelations.

It is only 3% away from being as good as God Hand!! YOU CAN DO IT CAPCOM!!!!

Capcom PR:"People say we lost our touch with Resident Evil, but Resident Evil 6 is as good as Shinji Mikami's games*, which was the director of Resident Evil 4, that shows that we achieved the same quality that years ago"

*God Hand

Is it ok if I think the game is broken as it controls poorly, is generally quite uninteresting and you can still be killed during the revive animation without bashing Japanese devs?
