GKMC is great but I still think I like section 80 more. Either way, it's an album that will always be special, but I honestly will prob only go back to 3-4 tracks at most in the future.

i feel s.80 definitely has more replay value, not just the lack of skits but the structure & length of the songs and its a bit more diverse. as far as which is better though, they are close.. i'd probably say s.80 too for those reasons. bit too early to judge tho

Way better than section.80
section.80 was a 6/10 on a good day, so far this is feeling like a 8 or even a 9. Much more polished, musically far richer and more interesting. Poetic Justice sucks, but I wasn't expecting much from that track. The beginning of Art of Peer Pressure is unnecessary, and Sing about me is 4 minutes too long. The hook on Real is awful (Anna Wise can go back to whatever hipster hellhole she came from) and it's also 2 minutes too long but the rest of the song is good. Money Trees is my favorite so far, with bitch dont kill my vibe close behind. MAAD city rounds out the top 3.
That leaves one shitty song and three with weak spots. Very happy with the album, was expecting another amateur album filled with boring shit, glad I was wrong.

Definitely agree with the hook on Real. I'm not feeling it at AT ALL.

And I fucking hate this Mary J song. Sorry Mary J. I can't even listen through the whole thing. Literally. 0 listens according to iTunes. Lol. I'm glad it's a bonus track.

So that leaves one shitty song (which technically doesn't count) and a crappy hook I try to tune out (Real) and the rest of the album I'm really loving.

Rating from favorite to least:

Money Trees
Bitch Don't Kill My Vibe
Black Boy Fly

The rest of the album is interchangeable here but..

Now or Never goes here. Lol.

I didn't include the mary j blidge track purposefully. It's horrid. I decided to pretend it doesn't exist. I can't stand anything she's does though.

The Sing about me/dying of thirst track completely threw me first few listens. I don't know why I was confused at first lol. Dying of thirst is excellent, the skits before and after are unnecessary and could have been trimmed, and sing about me is about 2 minutes too long, not 6. Would have preferred they were two separate tracks though.

Yeah black boy fly is interchangeable with maad city for my number 3 spot.

I may be the only one that wishes they still had the "this is the art of peer pressure" vocals at the end of the retail version. I felt that really set it off IMO.

*goosebumps*

Also.. Listening to OD and P&P1.5 is knocking harder than some of the songs on GKMC. I need to make sure my EQ is not messed up on this track.

No messing.

I was wondering if the second part of m.A.A.d city sampled Heaterz by Wu-Tang?

nvm I'm probably wrong

ScHoolboy Q on Twitter:

Re-evaluating this album now.....this shit special.

It's the third best TDE release for me this year (and the third best TDE release of all time...so really this label has been on fire in 2012 imo). So this means I like it more than section 80 now.

But I'll be bumping Section 80 more if that makes any sense, because that seems more replayable. There are no songs on here that can match ADHD or Spiteful Chant. But maad city, money trees and Cartoons and Cereal come close. Also special mention to Bitch don't Kill my Vibe

What puts this above section 80 for me though is that as a whole this is a great concept album. I really like the skits because they bring the whole thing together. In fact, if the skits were removed I would probably think less of this album.

What sucks about this though is that this means I have to sit through boring shit like good kid and Poetic Justice to get through the whole story.

Dying of Thirst > Sing about Me
Marvins Room/Interlude >>>>>> Poetic Justice
Jay Rock and Mc Eiht go in.

That Asap song works as single better than anything on GKMC. Asap is gonna sell so much more than Kendrick...

Jesus I don't even know how to feel after listening to this album, one of the first albums I've heard where I was extremely happy I didn't listen to anything prior to it's release (I accidentally heard Swimming Pools at a party, still a bit upset about it). The narrative is just amazing, all throughout the album, and the beats.

I'm not sure about that. ASAP has no mainstream hype as of yet. I think his album is being delayed though, which is definitely what he needs. Only heard a bit of that track and it does sound like a hit. Hopefully he doesn't stray too far from his sound too much. Not that it's a bad song.

This shit just gets better with every listen.

I don't even know what to say, it just has this vibe, this character, that pulls you in. Kendrick gave the world a feast.

everyone eatin', cept ab-soul.

I agree, it really does feel like a movie. I appreciate the details more and more with each listen.

In all honesty, Asap Rocky still calls himself an underground rapper rofl

It doesn't happen quite often that you listen to a piece of music and it draws various pictures in front of you - it feels like listening to a movie and all the puns and metaphors help to imagine everything

It's quite amazing

Uh naw, I wouldn't go that far. But it's definitely a damn good album and I'm happy he did what I hoped he would and progressed as an artist instead of flaming out or just doing the same old thing because it's easy.
