The dream joke at the beginning of episode 2 was absolutely hilarious and anyone who says otherwise has clearly no taste in humor.
@Branduil Hyouka is obviously the better show, but that stems from Hyouka being an exceptionally good show and not Chuunibyou being very bad. I was quite surprised by it actually. From watching the PVs I was expecting to be embarassed about the show and not by the characters.

Well I hope its not just his speculation and that they are actually pursuing it, I hate having this incomplete set on my shelf.
Hyouka is about a literature club with a pun for a name that involves itself in mostly mundane mysteries and history.
It also explores the relationship of Oreki and Chitanda.
It really doesnt say an awful lot at all.
As said above Hyouka is a well executed show but that doesnt make Chuunibyo bad either.
Both are great examples of why KYO ANI is one of the top studios.

My internet has been awful so Ive had to watch most on mobile crunchyroll, would have liked to see the explosion in full 1080p. Anyway the episode was alright, 50 / 50 on Himiko's character, I want her to overcome her "all men are evil" thing but often it seems shes just hear for fanservice stuffs, I mean, extensive screentime of pink panties.

Why cant we stay focused on Human x HUman relations, why do we need Giant Lizards, it feels so awkward now. And for how they ended up here, that is terrible and tragic, ones own mom sending their son to this place.
Because I feel that the usual formula of posting impressions of the latest moe-filled episode to the tune of "ZOMG SQUEEE This was sooooo fucking cute!!!! All of my HHHNNGGS!!1" like some weird form of Tourette's syndrome is bad enough as it is without having to add another one to the lexicon of nonsense words that get repeated in this thread ad nauseam to the mix.
You could argue that I can just ignore them if I hate them so much, sure, but I also feel that those types of posts are some of the biggest contributors to the disproportionate signal-to-noise ratio feeling that people sometimes accuse these threads of having.
The Sekitani Jun arc is about conformity and scapegoating. The student film arc is about hubris and manipulation. The school festival arc is about envy and expectations. That's just the most surface-level and shallow, succinct analysis. There's many other sub-themes as well as the character arcs of each of the four leads.

The character interaction in Chuunibyou is stupid. I can't laugh at this or them being retarded.
Chuunibyo has a lot of themes too.
Hell even green green has themes.
Making those themes entertaining is part of it and thats where Hyouka has trouble.
The way different themes are just talked about, not always demonstrated makes the show rather plodding.
It is much more interestingly explored in the festival arc and followup eps and thats why people like them.

This has got to be one of the weirdest themes to combine cute girls with. Even weirder was seeing the girls get fired up for tank-driving, and learning that it's a martial art as well as a tradition for women in their world.
Oh, and the CG at the beginning was lolworthy. A bit creepy too, actually.
I'm curious enough to watch more.

Actually, I look at A LOT of porn. A lot of real porn. Shocking, I know. Thus I have a high standard of anatomy (that I barely even reach myself), and I judge a lot of doujin material by my unrealistic expectations. So I tend to view less doujinshi since about only 1 in 100 that come out at Comiket are even worth looking at. I usually sit with a monocle on and my nose in the air as I frivolously discard the scan uploads in my RSS.

Kimtak owns you and even ghosts know the real truth about dumb occult crap. I will say that the Dezakiesque triple pans really don't work all that well with the shaking flash heads. It's trying to portray a sense of SHOCK and ANGER but it ultimately just looks bad.

Yeah, it gets really annoying after a while.
Stick with it as it's incredibly entertaining to the point of being one of the few must watch shows of the season.
So first it doesn't have much to say, but now it actually did have things to say, it just wasn't entertaining enough?

Im not saying Hyouka is shit.
I enjoyed it mostly for what it was.

Every show has themes, but not every show has interesting themes. I haven't seen much thematically in Chuunibyou beyond "it's embarrassing when delusional people remind you of your past."

Truth be told, I really enjoyed it. I haven't quite put my finger on why, but I found the second arc to be bewilderingly superior. I'd like to post my impressions soon, assuming that I'm not killing animeGAF by doing so.
What? That's the exact opposite of what "themes" means.
I never said such thing. I'm just saying that those types of "impressions" feel more like useless ramblings more often than not.
Having said that, I've also been fond of doing stupid one word "impressions" on occasion, so it's not like I'm free of guilt myself, but the point still stands.

Episode 4 was pretty good, as it cleared a lot of things thanks to that explanation, though I thought some of the reactions through the explanations were a bit over the top.
Episode 5 instead made me wonder what the hell happened. It looked weird, it animated differently and the direction in it felt kind of wrong. I mean, the kids were in trouble, but many shots had them look as if they were laughing/smirking/whatever?

Most of those aren't really examined in the show at all, though. It's mainly just jokes about how embarrassing it is to be around Rikka.

I feel like the Sekitani Jun arc was the least interesting arc thematically. In relation to Oreki, my opinion is that the first arc was set up to build him into a character that could be broken down in the student film arc. The rest of the arcs do a much better job of fitting with what I felt were some overall themes such as self-doubt and personal understanding.
I really enjoy Chuunibyou. It's a really enjoyable show to watch. That being said, I feel that Hyouka was definitely had more depth (I hate using this word). To be, Chuunibyou is a show intended to be enjoyed on a shallower level than Hyouka. It does have themes and I'm sure it will have character development (and I'll end up loving Yuuta and Rikka more than I do now). I just think that the goals of the two are different and there's nothing wrong with that. There are some people that will like Hyouka more, and there are some that will like Chuunibyou more. I think it's more worthwhile to judge anime based on what they're trying to achieve, not by comparing them to other anime that aim to do something else.

Haven't finished Utena either actually at episode 15. I did finish Princess Nine the other day though.
TL reasoning there. *Its more cute!*It's not being nitpicky. Chuunibyou simply doesn't have anywhere close to as much thematic depth as Hyouka. You can think it's good for other reasons, but it's not a show that says anything meaningful.
Gonna knock out Princess Nine over the weekend I think. Okami HD, nanowrimo, and being under the weather has been holding me back.
I think your attempts at reductionism has hit an all time low. You really need to re-examine the way you discuss stuff like this if you want people to take you seriously. This isn't about identifying with characters. It was a simple discussion of thematic elements, and why some people don't like Chuu2koi.
One show is a relatively serious character drama dedicated almost entirely to portraying the development of human relationships through subtle and often mundane interactions. The other is a slapstick comedy about teenagers who might be mentally challenged. You can argue that you prefer a sillier show because you find it more entertaining. What would be much harder to argue would be that they are both on the same level thematically.
Trying to reduce everything to a base level just to fit your narrow view of a discussion is bad faith and honestly, it makes anything you say feel like a total waste of time.

Depends on what is meaningful to a person.
Its relative to personal experiences and what an individual feels is relevant to their life or not.
This is one thing about criticism of a show as objectively good or bad.
People look for different things when they watch something.
Sometimes they just want something funny or cute. Sometimes they want depth and story.
Sometimes they want abstract ideas or themes.
No two people watch anime and extract the same experience. Thats why anime is so enjoyable.
We all have different views about it.
Suppressing anyones viewpoint because its too lowbrow or highbrow is kind of missing the point of this community.
It's not relative at all. Hyouka is factually more interested in examining and expanding its themes than Chuunibyou is. You can think that's good or bad, but you can't claim every element of a series is relative.
And no one is "suppressing" anyone's viewpoint.
Perhaps illustrating an example in how Hyouka does so would be helpful to further discussion as it may not be fairly obvious to someone like me.
