Yasumi Matsuno leaves Level-5 [Update: Post #201]

Matsuno has tweeted a clarification on his current status. He says saying he needed to recharge his batteries might have caused undue concern. In reality there is nothing wrong with his health, and he is only taking a vacation for about a month or so. His next project is already lined up and he hopes to announce it when he is able to.

So yeah, I guess he isn't retiring. :P

Great news! But is he still leaving Level 5, or will he come back after he takes some time off to relax?

He left Level-5, but he has a new project lined up already. So it appears he'll be working with another developer at least. I doubt he's in a position to announce anything right now.

It's a social game, right? RIGHT?! I know it, I just got that feel in my stomach!

*go cries in a corner*

Remake Tactics Ogre. Again. BUT LOSE THE GODDAMNED FRIENDLY AI

Something new would be nice too!

I'm still kinda surprised people got so hung-up on escort missions. They're not especially difficult, even if you don't exploit enemy AI or alter the weather. None of them have taken me more than two tries, at least.

Please, this! I can die a happy man if I get a Xenoblade like game with Matsuno involved.

I don't really see the appeal. I love Matsuno, and I love Monolith Soft, but Matsuno and Takahashi have very different styles. I wouldn't see that being a very good fit for either Matsuno or Monolith Soft.

If it has to be social, I hope it's browser based. I love browser based games for some reason.

Crimson Shroud, a part of Guild-01 in Japan. I think it's available in the eShop in the US or at least will be in the near future.
It sounds like he might have completed a second project for Level 5, maybe? He indicated that he left last month after finishing his work on a 3DS game, but Crimson Shroud has been done since last spring (unless he was a part of its localization).

I wouldn't really mind if it was like a TRPG on mobile. That would totally be functional.

The real issue would be like a "card" social game.
Honestly, yeah, a TRPG (and especially an Ogre Battle style game) could work pretty well on a mobile device/tablet when built from the ground up for it. And as long as it was a full game like Chaos Rings rather than a freemium abomination.

I'd still want the game on a traditional handheld I'd have to admit though.

"With my work done on the domestic and overseas version of my latest 3DSWare game, it was good timing for me to step down and take a short break in order to recharge for my next project."

:P

I hope he can make whatever he wants to make. Even if that means some social/mobile puzzle game.

Would personally of course prefer a grand stylish RPG in the vein of Vagrant Story though.

Can't be anything Nintendo related, the ninjas would have terminated his twitter account already and accompanied him to his "vacation".

Soo new Tactics Ogre/Ogre Battle game for 3DS, right?

(I would buy a Vita for either, too...)

he should come back once more and make FF12 HD with revised scenario. maybe that's what he's lined up next. it would sell millions. I believe.
