What's your prediction at the end of the game (Or this season)?

I am sure Kirito won't get his dual sword back because ALO Cover shows that he have giant black sword.

Ive had the wrong assumption the whole time?
I thought Imouto knew it was her brother in game the whole time, but they made it seem as if she didnt know that Kirito acts like her brother :/ At least we do know she likes her brother
.

Good action and log out schema. Though was not a fan of that Imouto fanservice/change clothes scene, awkward.

2 back to back episodes where nothing interesting happens. At least the preview looks like something is going to happen.

What the fuck did this show turn into? After 14 episodes of awesome, I'm on the verge of dropping it entirely.

Episode 18

My dick feels like it's about to drop off. This is the opposite of fanservice. What a fucking turn off. Hold on while I go throw up a little.

Sword Art Online 18

This was a rather poor, monotonous episode. The story has noticeably faltered into a tiring repetition, since, aside from the intriguing ending, absolutely nothing happened. Once again, the episode suffered due to it's very deliberate pacing, since, even if I liked the material, this episode should have covered much more of the story, so, hopefully, this relaxed pacing doesn't ruin the ending, since that, along with the
tears
, is the only good aspect of ALO. The enjoyable, adventurous setting has been squandered due to the plethora of dull diversions, such as any of Suguha's scenes in the real world or Lyfa's romantic quandaries in the virtual one. As such, there's far too much focus on the dull, love-struck suguha; so much so that Kirito has felt like a side character throughout this arc. All of which would be fine if Suguha was in the least bit interesting.

Suguha's "character development", which was a partial focus throughout this episode, is entirely relegated to the
growth of her love for Kirito
, so she's becoming increasingly worthless. Of course, this will inevitably lead to a glorious, satisfying
rejection
and an
abundance of tears
, but it's almost not worth it. She continues to be inexplicably unaware that
Kirito is, in fact, her brother
, even though their appearances are extremely similar. I mean, for all the criticism that Asuna's received, she's a far better character than Suguha. Also, her fanservice was entirely excessive and pandering as hell, but certainly not unexpected. Recon is the weakest, most irritating character in the story, and yet, despite this, I still feel bad for him, due to Suguha's considerable stupidity. In summation, Recon and Suguha deserve each other.

Sugou's intermittent scenes are definitely the worst moments of each episode, since he is unquestionably one of the worst antagonist's I've seen in anime. He's portrayed as this highly unintelligent, absurdly simplistic villain, and it never comes close to working. As such, once again, he, directly in front of Asuna,
slips into yet another monologue that details nearly every particular involved in his "master plan"
. I'd hope Asuna would actually
use her knowledge and attempt to escape on her own
, but, of course, that won't happen, since she's suddenly required to exist as a weak princess that needs to be rescued.

All in all, ALO has consistently failed to meet my thoroughly low expectations. The solid execution is entirely wasted on contrived, terribly-written material. Really, the only way this could get worse is if Silica appeared.

Kirito's outfit and weapon design for Fairy dance is terrible.

SAO outfit > Fairy dance outfit

Elucidator > Fairydance greatsword.

Watching 18 and I had to stop at minute 4:00 because frankly, I am starting to feel a bit embarrassed.

Yes, I understand they want to "expose" Suguha, but was that REALLY necessary? And why the hell she hits her "friend" with the boken?

Edit: Holy fuck... :(

Edit 2: Oh my god, this is terrible, what has happened with this series? The "villain" is laughable, he just need a moustache and shouting "MWHAHAHHA, I'M EEEVIIIL! " while he announces his master plan by megaphone, they made a completely empty episode where absolutely nothing happens. And what the hell are they doing with Suguha? Really?

I'm sad...

Tits, tits and more tits. Apart from that did anything really happen in this show? They walked out of town. Big whoop.

Oh and apparently Asuna took about a gazzilion years to think of
using the mirror. Did she never notice that her reflection was the only thing not jpegified?

Tits.

It looks like she only saw it by accident but realized what was happening in time. Seems like there's a bug there that Sugou didn't anticipate.

Also, Imouto's Boobs were the star of this episode.

I like your new avvy, btw.

Normally I don't care enough to help fill in plot holes in the anime that are explained in LN narration, but I'm bored right now.

Asuna had known for a while that mirrors in VR could do stuff like that, and Sugou, who's relatively new to VR, didn't know about it, but every time Oberon punched in the code previously, she was apparently never close enough to the mirror to use it without making him suspicious of her.

It's still a bit handwavy of an explanation (and probably inconsequential in the long run, which is why A-1 didn't bother with it), but there you go.

The part in the very beginning with Suguha talking about her experience flying and the tower scene made me think about how if we ever get our hands on VR of this kind in our life time(unlikely), there will definitely be some issues raised with people preferring the game to RL due to how fulfilling it would be compared to their real life.

Also, fanservice.

At least we'll (hopefully) be getting some action next episode.

That's already an issue in MMOs.

Regardless of actual show quality I just wanted to say that the new ending song has really grown on me I think it's better than the original.

especially the way they did it this episode where it gave a clue as to the next one and the song slowly became louder. I loved it.

this is one of the reason why the SAO incident didn't pose any kind of problem for players to try the "other game"

Still watching the first ten episodes. Concept went from "Fucking cool" into "Meh, another harem-animu." Please tell me it gets better, or does Mr. Beater keep conveniently running into helpless warrior maidens and befriending them?

there is no harem in there.. the protagonist is protected by a serious ploot armor ..and that make him attractive to the other characters .. but he has decided when he decided ..

the core concept is still intresting if you're familliar to MMO mecanics ..other than that i advise you to watch at least until ep 14-15

Episode 19

Holy shit that was a solid episode. Why the hell can't every episode be something like this one? It has almost everything that makes something entertaining. It has its little humorous quirks, solid action, and Kirito being... well.... Kirito. Fuck. Great episode.

agree, I'm getting some EVE vibes too.

Sword Art Online 19

This was easily the best episode of ALO, but that's not saying much at all, since it merely "improved" to a passable mediocrity, which, in this case, still wasn't able to dissolve the narrative flaws, as they were unmistakably evident and, at times, partially heightened. As such, there's barely any engaging, relevant developments here, which consequently induces a lack of consistency within the established tone, since the story is touching upon several disparate elements without a necessary cohesion.

The first half of this episode was surprisingly good, culminating with the highly enjoyable action sequence. The pacing, though better than in the last few episodes, was inconsistent, as the latter half of the episode was entirely devoid of enjoyable or interesting material; slipping, yet again, into a dreadfully slow repetition, filled with tedious exposition. At least Recon was unexpectedly useful. One of the most noticeable, unavoidable flaws is how little I care about Suguha and her emotional dillemmas, so any scene that directly relates to this aspect of the story is quite tiresome, which is unfortunate, since they unnecessarily comprise a significant portion of this arc.

The weakest aspect of this episode was the pointless focus on an uninteresting diversion from the main narrative, instead relegating the events throughout to occur as part of an unremarkable, inessential tangent, in which meaningful story and character development is essentially non-existent. This, in turn, causes an absence of any sort of tension or urgency, as though Kirito's attempts to rescue Asuna are comparatively unimportant. Of course, it certainly doesn't help that the latter half of the episode was a return to focusing on Kirito and Lyfa's poor, unenjoyable interactions and Suguha's unremittingly dull real-world scenes. Thankfully, though still boring, this disruptive descent into the real world, at the very least, wasn't centered around yet another reminder of how her love for Kirito is continuing to grow.

The most impressive element of this episode, by far, was the visuals, highlighted particularly by the exceptionally beautiful artistic backgrounds within the cave. The brief action sequence was superbly directed. Kajiura's music was, for the first time, consistently great throughout, as it excellently established and illuminated a compelling atmosphere in specific, integral moments, especially during Kirito's transformation and subsequent attack.

All in all, despite a decent episode, Sword Art Online continues to repetitively meander, due largely to this contrived excursion into a world and story that are deprived of significant tension and excitement. The execution of the narrative is consistently deteriorating, creating what is effectively a disjointed approach to storytelling, as the manner with which the characters and story are being handled is unsatisfying at best and woefully incompetent at worst. As such, the superbly consistent execution is disappointingly hindered by the lifeless characters and ultimately wasted on the contrived, terribly-written material. Although I'd like to think the middling quality of this episode will persist, it's inevitable that the show will soon return to the uneventful garbage that has plagued the majority of this arc.

Episode 19

OH MY GOD! That was FUCKING good! It's like every single complaint I had about the previous four episodes got taken into consideration, and then they asked a bonus question: "What would duckroll like to see in Sword Art Online?" and made an episode based on that. ACTION! EFFECTS! MONSTER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaah. I'm glad I suffered through four terrible episodes of Fairy Fucker Online to get to Monster Fighter Online. It was all worth it in the end! This is the SAO I have been craving for! It has finally come back! Rejoice!

I lol'd hard!

Great to see people enjoying episode 19. It was a terrific episode and completely blew everything out of the water. It was total redemption.

I didn't understand how his illusion magic makes him in to a physical monster. I know he already had a hacked account because he kept his stats but he constantly gets stuff that no players in the games get.

He turned into a boss monster, he's basically broken and has spent like 3 days in the game.

Crosspostan.
When I first started watching SAO, I had compared the game mechanics to that of WoW and felt that it was really lacking, as a game. It wasn't until SAO 19 that I realized both SAO and AO are closer to EVE than WoW, and suddenly a lot of the game stuff makes more sense (the plot is still contrived, but the concept of the games themselves is much easier to understand).

Every week, during what I think is the NicoVideo rebroadcast a few days after the episode airs, Kawahara does a little episode commentary via Twitter that usually clears up stuff like this; hopefully it'll be included in his notes for episode 19.

Is this translated and collected anywhere? Sounds neat.

My guess is, all the illusion does is give him increased size, but considering Kirito's maxed out physical attack stats, it basically meant he could do whatever he wanted.

I just think that Leafa probably doesn't know how Spriggan stuff really work, since she doesn't seem to interact with Spriggan players much at all. She seems a bit of a scrub even though she's been playing for a while. Probably doesn't read wikis online either!

This episode was pretty good.

Good fights. Not too much exposition.

Backgrounds were gorgeous.

Whenever I watch an episode of this I can't help but wonder how I can play other MMO's knowing that this kind of thing could potentially exist in the (far) future

Based on the name of the next episode I think we can expect to get some more action.

Well, anyway, here's Kawahara's only comment regarding the whole illusion magic scene; unfortunately I can't make heads or tails of it this time, but hopefully someone else can.
