What nintendo franchise could work as an MMORPG?

I was thinking about MMORPG's and wondering which Nintendo franchise has a decent chance of being made into and MMORPG and imo Earthbound is like the only nintendo franchise that could possibly be made into an MMORPG.

Races "home": Humans, Starmen

Races "Outsiders": Aliens, Monsters

IMO the only way it would work is sort of 2 dimensional WoW system where you can choose skills of job type musical, psychic, empathy(healing and pets) and have 3 types of genres for each of them, ala WoW and a skill tree like WoW.

*I chose WoW because the skill tree of that and Diablo is quite frankly brilliant, and anyone that says otherwise is a fool.

So what about you which do you think would work?

Metroid would make a very good action-MMORPG. All those bounty hunters running around. With Hunters, they've added more different characters who could serve as the basis of creating specific classes with different skills.

in b4 anyone else said pokemans

It's the most logical and dammit I would play that for hours upon hours. Pokemon NEEDS a MMORPG. Hell, the whole game is already one in a sense except for the fact that it isn't online.

Animal Crossing could be awesome if everyone had their own spot of land and you could just straight up walk over to your neighbors plot and hang out. That would require online play though, and some sort of innovation of the series itself. I would love to play that game, chances are though, I will be playing Animal Crossing with friends codes and N64 graphics for the next few years.

Fire Emblem (and there's often several non-human races in those games).

But 'have a chance' ? None, I think (if you except Pokemon)

I used to think this until I realized I play more games portably these days. WiFi Pokemon is win.

Zeeeelllldaaaa. That's the fanboy in me speaking though, I would kill for a Zelda MMORPG.

I think I'm the only person in the world to ever want a Super Mario MM platforming game (3d or 2d whatever) where everyone is Mario, or a variant like Luigi, Wario and possibly Waluigi and you can choose your shirt colour and overalls colour. And when you're not saving Peach, beating Bowser, Wart, Donkey Kong or their many children and minions, you just run around jumping randomly and most likely stomping on the heads of all the other Mario's running around you (kinda like 128 Mario but all different colours and jumping around randomly and each one controlled by a different person).

Yes I know this would get old quick, but whatever!! :p

Shit, thats hard. I'd say

1) Fire Emblem(But it not well known in NA)

2) Pokemon(Duh)

3) Animals Crossing

4) Zelda.(This would be too hard and stupid to code first of all, and secondly, dungeons would need to be changed and all that. Bad idea I think)

a Mushroom Kingdom MMO :o

Can be some random inhabitant of the kingdom and help the heroes on quests to defeat bowser etc

Nah, just a giant game of jumping on heads of other players and them trying to do the same to you. Nothing much more than that, plz. :p

You guys are limiting yourselves too much. Most Nintendo "franchises" feature characters and backdrops that could be easily watered down into a MMORPG.

Crazy example -- F-Zero. Imagine an Auto Duel-ish game where you build your craft, wander, compete, battle, and the like in a techno-future or post-apocalyptic world. Tie in cameos by various characters to establish the link to the series.

An Animal Crossing MMORPG would be so ****ing cool that the Earth would implode.

Other than that, I do think there could be a Mario one. Imagine a mix between Mario and Phantasy Star Online/Guild Wars were you hang out in lobbies, then go into "instances" to complete goals/puzzles and collect stars.

I would so be there for either of these.

POKEMOOONNNNNN!!!!!!

YOU READING THIS Reggie??

P-O-K-E-M-O-N

make it happen naooo!!!

animal crossing, nintendogs and pikmin would work too.

I think Metroid could be fitting in light of the recent Metroid Prime: Hunters, with thousands of different "hunters" roaming the galaxy. But I definitely wouldn't WANT such a game. :/

You and I think a lot along the same lines. I have thought about an online Fzero before but don't know if I mentioned it. It could have different leagues etc.

I actually think Pokemon would translate best in a masssively multiplayer sense as a Turnbased Strategy RPG rather than as an action or traditional RPG. Hex based of course =P

Seriously, why the hell hasn't Nintendo made a full fledged Gamefreak Pokemon game for consoles? Jebus knows how much that would have helped them with the N64 and GC.

As hot as a Pokemon MMO could be, they seem pretty hellbent on keeping the good Pokemon games on handheld systems where the profit margins are high.

Personally, if Nintendo were going to make an MMO, though, I'd rather they made an all new MMO franchise instead of shoehorning a beloved one into the MMO formula. Not only would that make expectations more reasonable, the design and game conventions would actually fit the restrictions MMOs place on games.

Yeah for a Pokemon or Animal Crossing MMORPG. Pokemon would prolly work out painfully well, and Animal Crossing with patches and variety in things to do could go on forever.

Zelda would work pretty well as an MMORPG if it were set somewhere around the era of OoT. You have all those different races to choose from; Goron, Zora, Hylian etc, even Minish. It could be set before or after OoT, so there's no central "Hero"... or better yet, set it during the 7 years of war while Link is sleeping. As time goes by, they could release expansions and introduce "outlands" like Termina, Labrynna or Koholint Island.

Pokemon obviously. However the team that does the console Pokemon games will never, ever do a good pokemon game.

Animal Crossing also has that potential.

I think the obvious candidates are
Animal Crossing/Doubutsu no Mori
Zelda
Pokemon

Here's a reason why I think they won't become MMORPG

-Animal Crossing
The game is best experienced in solitude. Animal Crossing fills the slow moments of your day and the game's emphasis in related collecting/wealth accumulation are designed towards single player play.

The on-line mode is primarily there for players to show off their own towns/wealth and creations. I can forsee a persistent central lobby for players who log in to interact in and perhaps sell their 'custom' designs in a future installment of animal crossing, but the game as a full MMORPG wouldn't work too well.

-Zelda
Zelda is a single player game. If it were turned into an MMORPG it would probably end up being as bad as the Matrix MMORPG. Everyone would want to be Link and the game wouldn't resemble or be able to recreate the experiences that make Zelda great to begin with.

-Pokemon
The focus of pokemon is PvP battling. While this seems like the perfect choice for an MMORPG, Pokemon is also an RPG with most of the stat building/collecting occuring in solo play. An MMORPG setting would probably provide a very hostile competitive environment for tasks as simple as leveling up and finding rare Pokemons. It will turn off younger players which is a big chunk of the fanbase.

The perfect Nintendo MMO is actually something very benign. Probably a game that combines Animal Crossing, Nintendogs with adverture elements taken out of Zelda and a few othergames into a comprehenvise virtual world for players to relax and play in. It will be the realization of a virtual playground for everyone to enjoy. The sword of sorcerry MMORPG will be the domains of the Square-Enix and Blizzards of the industry.

How about they just make a new franchise, designed to be a MMORPG, rather than just throw an existing IP in to it?

Actually, how about they don't bother making games they'll probably be outclassed in by companies with a decades worth of experience?
