So, platform in this game = Jump, Jump, Dash?![]()
DMC1 had automated platforming.
yeah it's a bit suspisious
![]()
yeah I saw that crap.
And they won't even reply or acknowledge my tweets, those guys are jerks.
lol wtf is going on with these reviews....
Here is a preview from them.http://www.oxm.co.uk/48961/previews/dmc-devil-may-cry-final-hands-on-last-look-before-our-review/
Why would a magazine be desperate to prop NT I do not know.
I mentioned this a couple pages ago. 9/10 review is from X360 Magazine, not OXM UK. Scans are out there. A legitimate review, unfortunately just not from the credited source.NT sent out a text asking @NinjaTheory: Anyone seen the official Xbox magazine (UK) review of #DmC? Would love to know the score.

Lots of people replied saying 9/10. This is probably where the confusion came from.

A new classic Donte line!
(and some terrible lipsynching)
Yea. With all of the talks about them handling platforming better than the rest of the series, I was really hoping that they would actually do something creative. It seems like they've just added on to what DMC4 had going, and left shit hella basic.
Play Mission 3 in DMC4 and tell me that's not trash of the smelliest order.
Not controlling like total ass qualifies as handling the platforming better. Play Mission 3 in DMC4 and tell me that's not trash of the smelliest order. Fact is you have more control over your jumps in DmC than any other game in the franchise.
Revisionist bullshit. Can't you like DmC without trying to tear DMC4 down? your heel turn is getting ridiculous.
But platforming in Donte may Cry is still ass. Being less ass than its predecessors doesn't make it automatically good.

I've always hated platforming in the DMC games. This isn't revisionist history, everyone knows it's always been terrible. This isn't revisionist history, everyone knows it's always been terrible. I just played that mission with the friggin spiked ceiling a few days ago.
That section was fine, the fact it took the smallest modicum of skill in timing your devil bringer grabs so you're pulling yourself across and not upwards into the spiked ceiling is possibly why you're so happy with the platforming in DmC, given it doesn't even require that.
Hah, play in a difficulty higher than Devil Hunter. You aren't allowed to raise the spiked roof. No man, that's not fine, it takes dumb luck to get through that.
and it's like his dodge buttons were broken
9/10 incoming, I was able to mash buttons and beat the game, it looked cool, totally DMC, suck it haters
Ninja Theory really cant win, cant they? Platforming was never marketed as the main point of this new entry, morphing environments were. Put more platforming: complain that NT is turning the game into Mario. Less platforming: complain that NT is not really improving, baaah!
Platforming in DmC is actually fun, as opposed to the bullshit it was in previous games. I played through the demo at least 10+ times, and the easy jumping and the natural movement is what made me not get bored between fights. Traversal challenges should get harder as we move forward, as the first one was a joke. If Enslaved is anything to go by, they managed to make some interesting jumping "puzzles" out of the automated system there (especially in the last 2-3 levels), so I would expect some good fun out of this as well.

Yeah, I have no problems with agreeing to disagree
And I still do not get how transforming enviroments will lose their "impact" on subsequent playthroughs, but empty and totally lifeless mansions somehow retain their charm. (Because that is the alternative)
Just to make sure I'm not missing something I want to make sure you mean this section: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xJrytFSqFro#t=4m54s
If so it was exactly the same on Devil Hunter (I did it last night) and I felt there was no issues with the controls at all nor was there any luck involved in it.
That is not trash of the smelliest order. It's a perfectly legit platforming segment.Play Mission 3 in DMC4 and tell me that's not trash of the smelliest order.
Sounds like a common theme going around here. The only thing bad about the castle area was the Gyro sections, the rest was decent stuff. Better designed than anything in DmC thus far.Hmm I might have misremembered.

That DMC4 castle was ass. Platforming sucked, running those boring hallways sucked, gyros sucked, shooting all those damn chairs for red orbs sucked. If we're just gonna be walking from one battle arena to the next, I'll take rudimentary platforming for $400, Alec.
It takes no skill to design on rails straight forward platforming segments either.
Why compare an interior design to a platforming sequence?
Artistic design-wise, ANYTHING I have seen so far from DmC shits on the backgrounds of DMC, once I am past of my Resident Evil 1-2-3-Code Veronica nostalgia phases.
Because that is all we have seen from DmC thus far? Just a bunch of corridor areas into platforming segments. Why compare an interior design to a platforming sequence?
It's kind of unbelievable that DmC has unskippable events in the game. Watching Dante smack those eye cameras around is so much fun after seeing it for the 10th time.Speaking of, it's kind of unbelievable that DMC4 still didn't completely broke the tenous connections to Resident Evil.

Oh wait... there's no Bloody Palace in the game so I have to force myself through shit platforming segments to get into the combat.
YOU ARE PART OF THE PROBLEM!!!!I still see that BloodyPalace line in that resources file list you posted in the other thread. There is hope yet. I do not care if it is paid, just let us play it![]()
YOU ARE PART OF THE PROBLEM!!!!
Yep. The alternative is not playing Bloody Palace?![]()
Rapid consensus forming that DmC will be terrible, but that all games ever made have also been terrible.

And yea the layout is what I am talking about. I never said it was genius before in DMC and it has always been archaic... but the layouts in DmC are even more brain dead. They don't even need to give you a map of the area because the layout is so straightforward.
But whatever... could care less about the platforming and shit. DmC doesn't have brain numbing puzzles like the previous DMC games so that's a plus for it. The less time I have to waste on these extra fluff the better...

Oh wait it's actually completely believable because this is NT we are talking about here.
DmC should just let Dante fly seeing as he is an angel and all.
I can't believe there was an argument about platforming. DMC platforming is shit. DmC platforming is shit with sprinkles on top. At least DMC kept it's shit platforming to a bare minimum though instead of trying to be Prince of Persia.
Is Eva being an angel the most pointless change ever or what? From what I can tell, they didn't do anything with that little plot shift.
It's really strange how sometimes you can be pretty objective and level-headed about DmC and other times you go off the rails. Complaining that NT breaks up the action with some platforming and defending a DMC4 stage that has you doing nothing but walking around for long stretches of time.
I personally will take the level design of the DmC demo two hundred times over those boring ass hallways in DMC4's castle. I mean, seriously dude?
p.s. The platforming mechanics are anything but shit as exhibited by this video. You can actually skip over the grab/pull route, sort of a sequence break, if you take the time to explore the game.

It's actually kind of satisfying to pull this off. You can even skip all of this completely with enemy step.
