The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim Mod Discussion and News [Creation Kit released]

Quick question(s): I have the Unofficial Skyrim Patch and Immersive Armors as well as JaySuS swords mod installed, among other stuff and I'd like to download Weapons and Armor Fixes, which also recommends Smithing Perks Overhaul and Complete Crafting Overhaul. What I'd like to know is:

1. WAF page says some things in the mod are bound to be rendered obsolete by the time Unofficial patch got released (it was developed before the reléase of said patch) given that the unofficial patch should adress the things WAF corrected. Should I bother with this mod considering how long has the unofficial patch been out?

2. Would the installation of these three mods conflict with the ones I already have? I'm talking specifically about weapons and armor, since the rest of my mods are horses, skyUI, immersive HUD, cloaks and stuff like birds and insects.

Thanks in advance.

When is too many for you?
I do understand that Skyrim might look like a game of hoarding mods over mods but you're fine with a solid list of 15 mods.

So a question, what would those top 15 mods be, to get the game prettier then vanilla.

Bear in mind it is still a personal take on the matter but I believe it's a solid one that can work with most people.
It's not only about vanilla being prettier but making Skyrim, overall, better.

. SkyUI - redesign and dramatically improves the UI for pc users (requires SKSE)
. immersive HUD - immersive feeling by removing elements of the HUD (requires SKSE)

. Skyrim Realistic Overhaul - hi-res textures, you can easily google it (look for version 1.6 + Dawnguard)
. Skyrim Flora Overhaul - overhauls Skyrim's landscape with more varied flora
. WATER - new and enhanced textures, meshes, content for water, waterfalls, foam, rain
. aMidianBorn Book of Silence - detailed, hi-res textures for most of the armor sets

. MacKoms Real Skin: new detailed hand-painted skin for male bodies
. Nuska Real Skin for Women: imperfect (as realistic and not doll like) skin for the female body
. Ethereal Elven Overhaul - revamp and dramatically improves the elven races
. High Quality Eyes by Xenius (darker & desatured) - lore friendly eyes

. UFO - Ultimate Follower Overhaul - better control and management of the followers
. Convenient Horses - better control and management of your horses
. Unofficial Skyrim Patch - fixes many issues and bugs of the vanilla release (there're also Dawnguard and Heartfire patches)

. Enhanced Lights and FX - redesign and dramatically improves interior lightning
. an ENB of your choice - look for one that suits your needs and tastes

I suggest to use BOSS to automatically sort all the esp's before playing :)

So I have a question I am using serious hd rexture and there is two files one is 1.22 the other 1.23. When I download and activate these do i double click to activate the first then double click the second and update? I am not sure when it comes to mods like these I dont know if I am suppose to overwrite or say no and keep only the newer version installed

Can You link to this mod?

I have a question about SKSE...I grabbed the SkyUI from the Steam workshop and it auto installed then I grabbed the SKSE thing....now the new UI works and all but I still get an error message when I load the game,I click ok and all is fine...it also says not found if I type checkskseversion in the console but all seems fine...is it a Windows 8 thing or what?

I had the same problem as you. If I remember correctly you should launch the game by running skse_loader.exe file. You can rename it to TESV so you can launch through Steam.

For anyone that uses lots of HD texture mods + ENB can you tell me what your VRAM usage is at?

My GTX 590 keeps hitting its VRAM limit (1.5 on each GPU) and Im thinking of getting either a GTX 680 4GB or a GTX 690.

There's something that has been bothering me about Skyrim. There is this line a few feet in front of my character where the detail of the texture changes. It's like an graphical effect only extends out maybe 10-15 feet out from the camera. I don't think I could capture the issue in a screenshot very well but is annoyingly noticeable when in motion. Does anyone else know what I'm talking about? Is there some LOD setting I can change an ini to make it less noticeable?

Do you have the distance that terrain loads from really low? What are your settings like?

Everything is maxed and uGrids set to 7, some other common .ini tweaks. It's a very subtle change but it's something I can't unsee.

I also just installed the Skyrim Flora Overhaul and I like it but now I'm bumping up against my VRam limit, which is kind of ridiculous because I have a 3GB 7970. I may have to find an alternative to my Texture Pack Combiner HD texture pack.

I think I finally did it. I destroyed my Skyrim installation. I ran a texture optimizer utility I found on the Nexus, which is highly endorsed, so I'm sure it works great for most people but after running it, Skyrim crashes on startup. The utility was supposed to create a backup but when I opened the folder that it created to store the backup file, it was empty. I think it's irrecoverable at this point. If I want to reinstall should I first disable all mods in the Nexus Mod Manager before deleting the local content? What I'd like to do is redownload the game and then reapply all my mods and hopefully when it's all said and done, I'll be back to where I was.

I have always wanted to find a mod for TES V that expands the map to the one present in TES IV and perhaps even TES III... I know the time periods are different for all the games, so remake with the engine is not what I am looking for (though this too would be a nice mod ^^); rather seeing the Cyrodiil during the time of Skyrim (i.e. after the Aldmer invasion)...

Does anyone know of any such mods?

I download and installed the unofficial Syrim patch but I still have those fluorescent red fire logs hehe...GF560Ti here...no big deal though everything else looks great but not on ultra,if I go ultra at 1920x1080,when I scroll the camera a full 360 as fast as I can it stutters a lot.

I changed the uGrids setting to 7, along with the appropriate bump to 64 for the exterior cell setting, but i'm getting huge stuttering when moving across the landscape, sometimes a one second pause every 15-20 seconds of travel.

I thought that changing this wouldn't have such a huge performance impact? I have a 7200rpm HD, 16GB RAM, 660ti and a quad core cpu.

It shouldn't.

I'm fucking confused. I did everything in STEP all the way up to when you start the conflicting Graphic mods.

Some of the mods have a core mod blue line next to them. What does this mean?

All of these mods are in a row and have core mod markers next to them:

High Resolution Texture Pack
Hi-Res DLC Optimized
Texture Pack Combiner
Better Beast Races

I'm going to assume that Better Best Races is there because of alphabetical listings, but is still a core mod? The list seems to go in alphabetical order at some points and then at other points it doesn't.

Am I supposed to install all of the top 3 or just the top one?

Will any of the STEP mods interfere with mods from Skyrim Gems that I plan to put in afterwards? To be honest I'm not a huge stickler for Lore Only stuff, as long as it looks good, plays good, and doesn't interfere with the main lore.

Also should I have installed the Skyrim, Hearthfire, and Dawnguard fix mods without the manager?

Core mod means it's essential to the STEP "experience", it's a vital mod.

The install order is generally in the order you need to install them, except where it doesn't matter. For example, the Texture Pack Combiner is a mod that picks and chooses the best environment textures from the three conflicting HD texture packs you get before it, so it's vital to install in that order.

By the way, get some interim testing done prior to installing the HD packs to ensure a 60+ fps in Whiterun etc. because the HD textures will definitely have a performance impact.

Better Beast Tex isn't part of TPC, so it doesn't matter whether you install it earlier or later.

As for whether Skyrim GEMS work with STEP, they're basically drawing from the same source except that STEP is more selective, so it's something to be done on a case-by-case basis. Use a mod manager and stay alert at installation time to messages that say the mod is overwriting another. That's your interference.

And while manual installation is no problem, why would you not use a mod manager? Much easier to install/uninstall...if you want to return to a vanilla Skyrim install now (not that you need to since these are patches), you'd need to have a backup Vanilla Data directory or get it again from Steam.

Can anyone recommend a good ENB? They all look amazing in pictures, but I can't actually play with them. They make things hard to see, and with some I can't see anything when it's dark

Thank you for all the help. I am using a mod manager. The thing is that the STEP guy said LOOSEFILES in the notes section for the Skyrim fixes. That STEP guide is super old too.

Hey guys, was BOSS discontinued? I can't find it on nexus. I'm terrible at load order so this would be a great help if anyone know's where it can be found?

Can anyone tell me if there is a NightCrawler skin? Having a retexture of the khajiit with that beast run khajiit animation mod wold be awesome.

I think LOOSEFILES refers to getting the files packaged in zip format with files that can be unzipped to the Data directory instead of .bsa versions that are one consolidated file the Mod Manager can't touch. At least that's what I understand it to be.

There is no ENB that dont alter nights.

It's not the nights, I've tried different ENB's and the nights are okay.
What I can't get over is the fact that everything is so blurry. Everything looks so beautiful, but I just can't play like that. I honestly can't see very well with the ENB turned on. Is there no way to reduce some of that? or an ENB which is not as blurry?

Might be because of the Depth of Field (DoF). Locate the enbseries.ini file in your Skyrim folder and try turning off the DoF. DoF is an effect that blurs things you're not looking directly at. Some ENBs are really bad at it.

Look for this entry and turn it to false.

EnableDepthOfField=true

Thanks!

Yup, that was the "problem"
It sucks because I really like some of the things it does to the look of the game, but it's makes the game so blurry it's unplayable for me

Maybe I could find an ENB which deals with it in a better way..

DoF can be a PITA, this is why a toggler may come handy :)

Doesn't work for me for some reason?

BTW, I had a problem with the game randomly crashing. It crashed at random times, but I thought it had something to do with all the ENB's I've been testing and the mods I've installed, so I uninstalled and downloaded it again, but it still didn't help. Turns out it was the HD textures pack. It could be something else, but the game did not crash once since I disabled it.

tried to run skyui, but I was missing a script something...is this an easy fix or is there another ui fix that's hassle free?

Thanks!

Try any of these: The Wilds EnB, Project ENB, Unbleak ENB...some ENBs are very good at adjusting the DoF while others do a crappy job of it. Experiment!

Personally, I hate DoF and play without it. Great still screenshots, sure, but feels very weird when gaming.

Edit: The latest base ENB v0.137 has an in-game mouse menu for adjustments on the fly.

Is there any popular mod that would screw up the DOF of ENB's effectprepass.fx file? I've seen some really great depth of field effects in some screenshots, but when I use them it just looks horribly blurry at all time.

anyone able to help me out with mods for a second?

I have about 60 mods through Skyrim Nexus and something is making random enemies invisible. So far all Ive noticed is invisible wolves, but Ive been randomly attacked by other invisible enemies and cant seem to put the mouse over them to figure out what the enemy is. The invisible wolf is a alpha pack leader... or something. I assume its a mod thats doing it but I cant figure it out.

Unfortunatly Im at work so I cant give a list of mods at this time, Ill update tomorrow. Just wondering if anyone else had this issue.

Did you run BOSS to arange your mods?
Also Wrye Bash can tell if you have mod issues.

Does ENB normally cause stuttering? I'm using this version http://skyrim.nexusmods.com/mods/15105 and it frequently "stops" the game for a second or few. It gets progressively worse the longer I play. Also I can handle the longer load times, however, it took over a minute to load when I fast traveled from Morthol to Whiterun - a city with these problems in general. Any help?
