New Sonic game rumored to be unviled in February for almost every platform

I'm glad to see them return to the Unleashed/Generations style, but also slightly bummed.

I could've sworn they stated in an interview that they are going to experiment with something a little different.

Oh well, might as well stick with what's working.

Btw, Greenmangaming is having a crazy deal. 10 Sonic games for under $27. Generations and Transformed alone are worth it. Lol.

Unleashed 4: Colours 3 - Generations 2 with S3&K/SAdv-style character select? This is absolutely the best way for the series to continue. Thank goodness Iizuka-sama is locked in whatever cupboard they managed to squeeze him in to.

Hunnid-P come to me.

Non-sense. Iizuka-sama will soon be talking in interviews. I can't wait.

ULTROS!

People seem to like me because I am polite and I am rarely late. I like to eat ice cream and I really enjoy a nice pair of slacks.
I hope it has a Chao Garden.

10 playable characters (Shadow sucks) with only 20 stages (6-7 zones most likely) sounds kinda shitty, but multiple signposts/exits per level would be cool. Unleashed (Daytime only) > Colors > Generations was a good stretch, but they still need to step it up; those games were still B-grade at best. More content would be nice too, its not like the level design in those last three games was rocket science.

Probably true just because it's such a safe guess and fake/canned rumors like to throw at least one crazy feature in. We've gotten contradictory information out of Iizuka about the future of the series, and at a guess, management dictated taking the least risky approach.

The only things we know for certain are that Hunnid P.'s recorded something for the series lately and that the Colors/Generations writer was hired for another script.

It took them a decade to actually make 3D Sonic work, let's not ask them to change it up now that they're finally getting it right.

I get a feeling Iizuka is busy with Sonic Adventure 3! :D lol, this is just a side game to his 25th anniversary masterpiece, IMO

New levels will include Lake Hill, Angel City, Acceleration Highway, Sandy City, Sunken City, Lava City, and Egg Carton.

Chao Garden please. I'm willing to give up 5 of the 20 stages in return for a Chao Garden.

It's been to long Sega, Chao need to make a triumphant return.

Nah we already had a lava city. Been awhile since we had a sky city.....sky sanctuary excluded lol. Oh and an ice stage...at night.

Hahaha, nice.

This rumor sounds pretty neat. If real, I hope it's actually based on exploration rather than taking an alternate route by completing a quick time event.

Chao really don't belong in Sonic, but god, imagine the piles of cash Sega could make from a freemium Chao-raising smartphone game.

Hell, Iizuka is running this shit now, man. For better or for worse, he's locked himself in his days of S3&K. Gameplay, that's better. However, I'm pretty sure he was one of the people on the team wishing they could do more with its story...

The source elaborates that the console version of this new game will be sticking with the recent formula seen in Sonic Unleashed (Daytime), Sonic Colours and Sonic Generations where gameplay switches between full 3D movement and 2D side-scrolling sections

Man, I'd love to see Sega give the Sonic franchise to a team that's capable of producing something more than just decent.

Iizuka has said in interviews that he wants to do something new with 3D gameplay, also mentioned something about how next gen will allow him to do real time lighting calculations.

I don't think this is that game though. That's probably Sonic Adventure 3.

Tails should be as fast as Sonic, Sega. None of that slow shit.

Sonic: Fastest thing alive.

Tails: Fastest thing alive + can fly?

Original Character Blonic: Fastest thing alive + Fly + Chaos Control Super Hyper SSJ3 Form at Will + Rocket Launchers

So do you think they'll give us levels that AREN'T cities/man made?

Generations was pretty much "What level do you remember most from these games?"

But it's a crying shame they didn't make any DLC levels for that game, or even DLC music packs. The game seemed made for it. The hub was literally white nothingness, with level entrances just plunked into it on a line.

And looming over their heads was a single level they could've done that would've made both Classic and Modern players very happy, that would've let them at least partially recycle from Unleashed, nothing like it in Generations... Ice Cap.

Iizuka thinks games should be like interactive movies (or at least he did until Sega put him in the Room of Silence for a few years) but he was a decent level designer. I wish they'd let him stick to that.
He did sign my Mario advertisement though, so I'll give him some credit.

Iizuka joined the game industry to create stories.

Svend Joscelyne: Can you briefly describe how you both got into the games industry and what it was that really got you excited about working with video games?

Yuji Naka: I joined the games industry when I was 18 years old and the reason I joined was probably the same as everybody else; I really liked games! At the time I used to go to game centres (arcades) a lot and I really wanted to create the games I saw in them. I happened to take an interview with SEGA and they accepted my interview. I’ve now been in the industry 27 years and I’ve really enjoyed my time.

Takashi Iizuka: From a young age as a child I really enjoyed drawing and I used to draw Manga and staple the pages together and create my own little Manga book. So I really enjoyed coming up with new stories and the whole process of creating a Manga. I actually moved away from this for a time and during University I thought to myself I want to be in a job where I’m creating something and a story. That’s why I joined the games industry.

I've never actually owned or completed a Sonic game. There's aspects of the series I have enjoyed, namely in the 2D games, but I kind of thought the level design was a bit jarring even though it was wickedly cool to run speed through levels.

If I recall correctly, source from IGN spilled the beans on Sonic Secret Rings back in early 2006. Deja vu, huh, Sega ? A new gen and a new Sonic game already leaked early in the new year.

I dunno, I liked the 2D and 3D sections of Generations.

*shrugs*

Sonic controlled well in each, I thought. Nothing too floaty or uncontrollably fast.

Urgh this classic sonic crap again.

Are you guys gearing up to complain for the entire games development?

There's no classic Sonic crap involved. Even the modern stages in Generations (as well as Colors and Unleashed before it) had 2D sections. And I don't see why people think this is a bad thing. Are we stuck in the PlayStation era where 2D games are for babies and everything must be 3D to be cool?

Sonic Advance 2 had an ice stage at night... it was also a city:

Sonic Advance 3 had night ice generic level:

Sonic Advance 4 Ep 2 had an ice carnival:

Also Sonic 06. And just cuz they've had a level before doesn't stop them from making a new one.

I hope it controls better than the last couple games. While it may tolerable when Sonic is on a track and constantly using a boost to proper him forward, those games control like ass. Sonic turns like a tank and has a really heavy jump (emphasized by the addition of a double jump in Colors). It actually got worse over time too. Of all those games, Unleashed had the better controlling Sonic (aside from the drift move).

I can only hope that they'll tweaked the controls to the point that Sonic will control as smoothly and responsively as he did in Sonic Adventure 2.

Also, enough of this 2D/3D thing. The 3D gameplay of generations is pretty great, why not try to make a full game of that?

This. Breaks the flow so bad.

The solution: Two games. Sonic Colors 2 (or whatever this new game will be called) and NEW Sonic the Hedgehog with Genesis physics and classic Sonic design.

This. I hate the way tank-Sonic controls, SA2 Sonic was so zippy.

Sounds like a winning solution to me.

Huh? Sonic Colors and Generations Modern Sonic stages were a mix of 3D and 2D...

It's not like they're bringing back Classic gameplay. That would be too good.

Yeah even 3D modern Sonic had 2D elements, and surely that is what this is talking about.

Even Mario Galaxy has 2D elements.

I don't really understand what you're saying. I know that Generations was a mix. I was saying that I'd rather see a full 3D style game next time.

I really hope you aren't assuming that most of SonicGAF hates the Modern Sonic (Day Unleashed/Colors/Gen) gameplay and only praise the classic gameplay because we're nothing like that. We like both of them!

It's just Anth0ny hating on Boost because he prefers Sonic 06's style.
