anyone else not a uncharted fan but hyped for TLOU

I started off loving uncharted but over time lost interest in the series. I haven't even played 3 yet and probably won't. TLoU looks to go beyond the character connection that uncharted did so well, but it is the change in gameplay that really attracts me. Enemy encounters look more intimate and the whole aspect of surviving in this dangerous environment pulls me in.

Hmm. While UC3 soured me I guess I cannot say I am not a fan. I still loved 1 and I think UC2 is not just one of the best games of this gen but one of the greatest games of all time.

I am infinitely more excited for TLOU though than I would be for UC4 and again that is probably because TLOU seems so different in how it is approaching combat and AI compared to all other games that are just ripping of UC now left right and center that has somehow diminished the set piece driven uniqueness of Uncharted.

Well, I am an Uncharted fan... but if they never made another Uncharted game I wouldn't care.

I'm incredibly excited for TLoU.

Yesterday I watched all the PSN videos back to back. Goddamn huge mistake. Hype is again at critical levels.

I'm not sure "hyped" is the right word, but I don't like Uncharted and I'm really interested in The Last of Us.

As a stealth fan I'm incredibly intrigued by the possibilities of the AI system they're working on. It has the potential to breathe new life into the genre and the funny thing is I'm sure that was the last goal ND had in mind while making the game.

I would be excited if it wasn't for the zombie/monster stuff I've seen.

If uncharted cut out 90% of the mediocre combat and got rid of the AWFUL supernatural twists I would like those games so much more. (A big reason I liked uncharted vita the most was the lack of supernatural bullshit).

IF TLOU cut out the zombies/monsters/infected I would be there day 1.

Actually, I'm an Uncharted fan not hyped for The Last of Us (it's a very good-looking game, but doesn't seem like something I would want to play). Enjoyed the first two Uncharted games, was disappointed by Uncharted 3.

I don't mind Uncharted but I'm not the biggest fan. TLOU looks a lot more interesting if only because enemies die really quickly. No more Terminator enemies, where you unleash a full AK clip into them and they just keep charging at you like they feel no pain. I hate when games do that.

Me. Never played uncharted, never had a desire. But TLOU has appealed to me. It's all about the premise, type of characters being used, type of gameplay that draw me in. not graphics, even though the uncharted games have all looked fantastic. Even if I love TLOU to bits I don't think I'd go back and play uncharted. About the only thing that would even tempt me is if they bundled it as a trilogy and I found it for $20... then maybe.

I was kind of relieved when in Uncharted 2
the monsters turned out to be humans in a fursuit
. I could deal with the other supernatural stuff,
the magic tree and the Shambala guardians
.

I don't see why you have to be an Uncharted fan to generally like this game. Naughty Dog has created many different "platformers". It's like saying you had to be a Jak and Daxter fan to like Uncharted. They're pretty different games in the grand scheme of things. Regardless, I think what TLoU is trying to accomplish is pretty interesting, and I hope they won't fill the game with heavy action sequences to off-put the really low-key, high-intensity moments.

Uncharted is what makes me uneasy about The Last of Us. Uncharted is a beautiful game and I enjoy exploring the environments, but the fighting and the 'platforming' is not exactly a key point of enjoyment to say the least.

Well they seem like completely different games, so... that shouldn't be uncommon?

I'm an Uncharted fan and I'm interested in (but not hyped for) TLOU.

I really am not a fan of the Uncharted series, but TLoU looks really cool so far. I'll probably give it a try at some point.

I feel the opposite. It looks too bloody and grim for me. I wish ND returned to the lighter stuff.

Exactly the opposite for me, I'm definitely more interested in The Last of Us than Uncharted because of the darker atmosphere and the Siren-ish monsters.
I'm still interested in playing Uncharted one day or the other but it's on a low priority on my wishlist for now.

If anything play UC2 if you can. It is one of the greatest games of all time. The best TPS campaign this gen.

I'm a big fan of the visuals and technical awesomeness of the Uncharted games but I think the gameplay design is very poor in general.
So I will buy TLOU just to basically look at the awesome visuals and art direction, since I don't expect much from the gameplay...but who knows, it might actually play great and better than Uncharted !

I'm excited because I respect ND's craftsmanship. TLOU is them extending their ambitions and pushing boundaries. I want to see that.

the gameplay seems far more interesting than Uncharted's scripted shooting action which now every game has and got old already.

It can be a very good survival game with resource management and much better replay value too. From E3 demo impressions, it sounded like there is a lot more to enemy encounters than uncharted and it can play differently every time, potentially much better replay because of that. I hope you actually feel weak and threatened by the enemies and not an overpowering killing machine, personally I hope it plays like RE4 with similar pacing and introduction of new enemy types, weapons and surprises little by little and some good jump scares here and there.

Yes I like the second game, but the series overall isn't that enjoyable to me.

This though...god damn. I've been fiending for a good survival horror since Siren: Blood Curse. It looks fantastic, though I wonder how they will end the game. "The Road" thing is been there done that now.

I like the Uncharted games but am not a 'fan' or anything, but Naughty Dog really do make some technically impressive games.

Yeah, I wanna play TLUS, since it's a game that is going to be released at the end of a console's lifecycle and I'm really interested to see what the studio can do here. On a media black out too since Naughty Dog has a bad habit of spoiling their games.

Hell guess I will be the the one to say it, but The Last of Us is very similar to Uncharted game play wise. It makes me lol a little bit for those who are so hyped about this but hated Uncharted, I guess the hype train is too powerful for gamers at times. Just watch the few game play videos around and you can see the similarities, but this time you have a new story, environment, very similar enemy AI, combat will be filled with uncharted style cover mechanics, same corny characters dialogue, and a new follower. I'm not hating on the games but the similarities are all over the place.

Absolutely.

Here's what I wrote in an earlier thread:

It's difficult to point out an area which is weak. There were lots of issues I had with the Uncharted series:

- Bullet sponge enemies? Gone.
- Linear, corridor-like design? Gone.
- Constant, unavoidable shoot-outs? Gone.
- Scripted nature? Gone/reduced
- Poor stealth implemention? Vastly improved.

Uncharted proved to me that ND had vast amounts of talent. There isn't a doubt about that, but I was never truly satisfied with the series. Now, they're trimming the fat and it look like The Last of Us is far more lean and grown up than anything they've ever done.

It should be the best exclusive on the PS3.

There's a rumor that the press will get their hands on TLoU for the first time this week. So it's going to be interesting to hear about how the AI holds up when Joel isn't being controlled by ND. But they've said all the right things so far. If you're making a game with heavy stealth elements then AI should be at the top of your priority list, and that's where it seems to be with TLoU.

I loved Uncharted, but I was never as excited for them as I am for TLoU. This really looks like it's going to be something special.

It looks to top Uncharted2 as the best game of this generation.

very similar AI? It looks completely rehauled and more ambitious than any game before it. Gameplay also looks completely different. Uncharted is a cover shooter that moves from one set piece to the other, this seems much slower and methodical. You won't be able to shoot your way through the game and have to be resourceful with your supplies. Looks to be many options to face an encounter and how you choose to may effect your outcome. Think you need to read up on the game

The Last of Us has a gameplay similar a Uncharted however the ambiance looks very well and that's what has me excited.

Well, I guess I'm bit hypead for TLOUS.

Yeah, this looks like their answer to the criticism UC has gotten. I'm also glad that the cutscenes look less set-piece/action oriented (the "Hollywood blockbuster" approach) and instead, they put more emphasis on character interactions and development.
