A next gen fifa, next gen cod on top with a known delay for ps4 ms would kill this xmas, they wouldnt be able to keep up with demand imho.
when the 360 launched, it was a different playing field. japanese studios and titles were still very dominant in the market and sony led the charge.
360 was also seen as an unknown. people couldn't be sure if it would still be around in a couple of years, especially after the xbox.
it's alll different now, western studios and titles are firmly running the show and there's no worry about them suddenly dropping out of the market. if microsoft launch with next gen fifa, cod, etc it could see the tide turn in their favour.
No one else answered, so here I go.
Stacked RAM comes as how it sounds. Instead of laying the chips side by side on the PCB (the board) the chips are stacked on top of one another. Because of this, the connections are basically going through each other creating "instant" connections, thus increasing the bandwidth (the amount of data that can be sent within a period of time).

GDDR5... the G simply means graphics. (Graphics Double Data Rate, version 5).
GDDR5 has existed for years. It's super fast, but super hot. The only companies that really use it are GPU manufacturers, and frankly not enough of those sell to justify the manufacturing costs for some companies. That's why it's "dying out."
DDR4 is the next iteration of DDR3, which has also been out for years. DDR4 is supposed to be more efficient. Requiring less power, resulting in less heat. It's also relatively "slow." First iterations will be slower than current DDR3 speeds, but will be able to achieve higher speeds (and lower costs) as time goes by.
G is for graphics because it's mainly used in video cards.
Not sure what people mean by saying that GDDR5 is "dying out."
GDDR5 is a fast, high-bandwidth type of memory that's based on DDR3, which is used in desktops.
DDR4 is a new type of memory with more dramatic design changes.
If that is true when why has the 360 in it's year headstart fail to gain a stronger foothold? Europe has proven it could wait in the past, why would it suddenly change? I just don't see the rationale.
I love next-gen wars .. <3Importantly, weve learned that Sony has told developers that it is pushing for the final PS4 RAM to match up to Microsofts 8GB.
I have a question,
wasn't the PS3 more powerful than the 360?
That didn't help much, it should not be the focus. Better to understand how that power will be used.
MS already has me in a stage where I trust them no matter what they do next gen. They earned my business.
I'm hoping PS4 really does push the envelope, and comes back strong. I want competition. I don't want their top be just one console to choose from.
what about 6 GB of GDDR5?
why people expect GT6 that early? launch tittle?, 6 month from launch? wut?
Sony is back?
Am I the only one that really loves this?
True. But at least you now know just to ask everyone for money.Early 2014 is not early enough for me to be able to spontaneously buy one for Christmas 2013.
Have you seen the last couple of Microsoft E3's?!
Also look at Sony 1st party vs MS 1st party. There's your answer to the
"more powerful" question.
Wrong all around.
why people expect GT6 that early? launch tittle?, 6 month from launch? wut?
The article is surely implying that 4GB of GDDR5 will match the PERFORMANCE (not capacity) of 8GB DDR3.
THERE IS NO WAY THE SYSTEM WILL HAVE 8GB OF GDDR5
More good stuff coming from the PS4 rumour mill. I'm skeptical about seeing that top up of RAM, but the share function sounds amazing and could well prove to be a massive selling point.
Nice to hear the controller isn't having a display forced on it; I still think the Vita will be used to offer some sort of enhanced remote play functionality. I'm OK with the touch pad, providing it is there for OS and menu navigation purposes and not to be shoehorned into actual game play.
The suggested release dates, while disappointing (speaking as a UK resident), do make sense to me. The US is the largest market and also the one where Sony seriously lost ground. Those two facts alone make it essential that they make NA a priority. As for Japan, while it may be a smaller market than the EU, it is home turf - no company should launch significantly later in their native market. It ends up meaning an agonising extra few months of waiting, but I remember when consoles used to take over a year after their initial release to filter through to Europe, with the games being no quicker. Despite catering for multiple languages and dealing with the problems posed by simultaneously launching in multiple distinct countries, a lot of the time, we see close to release date parity over here now, and I for one am grateful for that.
As for the new Xbox having a suggested head start, I seriously doubt a few months is enough to erode the PS brand over here so much that it would be a critical mistake to let MS get off the blocks first.
No BC, maybe psn titles if were are lucky.I dont think there will be any surprises in terms of specs. Last thing Id like to know is about BC.

I really hope they have some dedicated video encoder logic that does nothing but encodes the gameplay video - because otherwise there can't be no performance penalty involved with something like that. Realtime video encoding, especially at HD resolutions is very CPU intensive.
THERE IS NO WAY SONY IS UNVEILING BEFORE MICROSOFT.The article is surely implying that 4GB of GDDR5 will match the PERFORMANCE (not capacity) of 8GB DDR3.

Infamous 2
Red Dead Redemption
Dat PS3 exclusive Draw Distance.
It's the developer talent more than the hardware.
Killzone 3 had such insane graphics. I can't even imagine how Killzone 4 will look on PS4. O_O
THERE IS NO WAY SONY IS UNVEILING BEFORE MICROSOFT.
Why would that video need to be kept in RAM?
They gave me everything I wanted this gen, their online was top notch. Their system updates phenomenal (and it doesn't take 2 hours)
The exclusives have been great, and then games like Forza 4 pushing past my tried and tested GT series. Gears, Halo, COD always being better on the 360............its been an amazing run for me with the 360.
I will say this I have owned 7-8 360 this entire gen.
My launch PS3 still works.
Because this isn't the stone age, at that price they could get their act together and not treat us as second class citizens. To those complaining about EU getting it later - I'm in the UK - I would say to you this:
Every Sony console, ever, has released in Japan significantly earlier than the EU.
Every Sony console, ever, has released in NA ealier than the EU.
Why the fuck would people expect this to be any different?
It's OK. I'm sure they did it out of consideration for the state of economies around Europe - we need the extra time to save.Wow, there's a lot of great news in this article. Share button and developers liking PS4 are both awesome news. Glad it's hitting 2013 over here. Sorry Euros.
Infamous 2 has better effects, character animation, and probably textures than RDR though. It is a very good looking game considering it is open world.

The PS4 hardware will continually record the most recent 15 minutes of onscreen action (with no processing penalty, claims our source), which users will then be able to edit and broadcast via the Internet.
I call bullshit on this tbh. I'd eat my hat if they put 8GB GDDR5 in there.
Next year? =/
