Crysis 3 Open Beta starting Jan 29th

in regards to my complaint about delayed jump (at least on the 360 version), and someone replying that I'm doing a power jump: nope, I'm tapping A, doing a regular jump. the jump is delayed as shit compared to every other shooter on the damn console. and lack of aim assist has nothing to do with the controls being shit. the graphics are killing my eyes too.

does the ps3 version look like crap also?

I'll probably enjoy it more on my laptop. doesn't seem to work on consoles at all

Wow, I'm actually enjoying this game. Will probably be my first $60 day one game in ages. First multiplayer FPS I've played in a few years too. Nice to come back to a genre after shunning it for a while.

Holy shit, this is hands down the WORST looking game I've seen on PS3. This has to be some huge mistake, why would they release a beta looking this bad? I'm gonna have to cancel my pre-order; the level of GTFO is quite high.

This is easily on par with PS2 graphics... hell, even MGS2 and GoW2 look leaps and bounds better than what I just played. The resolution is so poor you can't make out any text or facial features.

This is what happens when you make a game meant for PC and next gen consoles and try to make it work on a system from 2006.

If Crytek had sense they would just release the PC version now and make the console version a next gen launch.

People need to cut this argument out. The game looks worse than Crysis and Crysis 2 in every way on the same platforms, from the same developers, on the same engine. If it even just looked on par with previous games there wouldn't be an issue but it's a significant downgrade in every way, both visually and performance wise.

This is one of the most ugly looking games I have ever seen on current gen consoles. I dont know why they even bothered to release it for PS360. They should have released it on next gen. Also it looks like the horrible animation from Crysis 2 on consoles is back.

This is what I don't understand... How does the third game look worse than the previous title? That's batshit crazy. Crysis 2 wasn't astounding on console, but it looked like a current-gen game. The Crysis 3 beta is an absolute disaster, I just can't fathom why they'd release it. It's just going to hurt sales for that platform.

Playing on the PC and its running alright with my GTX 680 and my aging Phenom ii X4 at 3.6ghz. Question for settings though, do people turn blurring off? I noticed in the GamerSyde videos that everything looks crazy smooth. Is this also a function of the monitor they recorded it on? I have an IPS screen but it cant be that, because then I assume my playback of the video would also be affected. I assume it can only mean that its running at a much higher FPS?

Their video is going at 1080p 60fps, which you may not be used to seeing in a video. Believe me even after playing it at 60fps it still looks a bit different in videos.

Maldo has some settings that make it run better. He also advises using Vsync w/ D3DOverrider, which I can say is great, and makes the game super smooth for me and when I'm recording I also notice it's very smooth. I don't mind the motion blur, myself, but the way they use Chromatic Aberration is a bit too much for me so I use

"R_Chromaticaberration 0" to get rid of it. (If you use Maldo's autoexec.cfg, add "R_chromaticaberration = 0" to it.)

I also disable the Color Grading, because I prefer it off.

R_Colorgrading 0" in console (or "R_colorgrading = 0" in autoexec.cfg)

This video was taken with Maldo's cfg and D3DOverrider.

This video was taken without Vsync or D3DOverrider.

It's hard to tell with youtube, but there's definitely a difference.

Both have color grading turned off, and I believe both have Cromatic aberration turned off.

Put in another couple of hours on the PS3 version over the weekend and I think I'm going to have to give up on it. I don't want to write a game off based on the beta but I can't see how they're going to sort out the fundamental graphical issues with this for launch.

Stunning graphics mean little to me when it comes to MP as if it's fun and intense then you don't have time to stop and stare anyway but the issues with this beta are actually stopping me enjoying it. I can barely make out what's background and what's an (uncloaked) enemy, there seems to be a fair bit of input lag and, while it's hard to tell due to the chaotic screens, I get the feeling that there are considerable frame rate drops as well.

A real shame as the core gameplay looks pretty fun.

I've not played the console versions, but on the PC it looks pretty good.

Perhaps this is a case of a step too far for the 360 and PS3? I'm not justifying the state the game is in on these platforms, but in reality this is a demanding game shoe horned into old hardware. I do wonder why the game would look and run worse than Crysis 2 mind you. At least it should look and perform the same.

It is easy to say Crysis 3 should have been delayed to next gen, but we don't know the reality of dev kit availablity or the ins and outs of game development. Making these sort of uneducated assumptions gets us nowhere.

As far as the game goes. Yeah I'm definitely picking it up for the PC. Even at this stage I'm happy with the performance. It is running at 60fps with SMAA x2. Everything at Very High except Shadows, and Water. (gpu - 7970 Lightning at 1150/1500 Cats 13.2 beta 4)

Ahh, cool. I'll check out his config. Thanks for the info.

Cheers for the comments about framerate and my laggy controls. You guys were right. Tried out Maldo's config, giving me a frame boost, and the game is super responsive now. And so much more fun!

That brings me to my second note: Maldo's config improves my performance. Previously I'd float around 30 - 45 fps, with REALLY super intense shit dropping the fps briefly a below 30. With Maldo it's much closer to 40 - 60 fps, averaging at least 45 fps. But I guess that's to be expected. A lot of the engine stats are lowered and the game definitely has a few of the tinier polishes removed.

I checked his config versus vanilla Very High, and here's the differences. Vanilla at the top, Maldo under in italics.

Maldo config is basically High setting with SSDO on :)

More or less. What I did was to analyze the new presets for each of the settings and then test all the variables that were modified to find ones that were unlocked. So I could see the parallax mapping was activated in all presets, there was no tesselación materials in either map, cvar r_SSReflections is now unrelated to the reflections on the water and e_lodratio = 20 (used in high and very high) could be reduced without impact in the IQ but greatly reducing the CPU resources (lowering polycount). SSAO produces some artifacts (noise in dark areas) and SSDOs fixes it, gives better quality with the same performance. The shadows of the particles and their physics over dynamic objects also consumes CPU and are not appreciable effects in multiplayer gameplay.

Alright guys... Curious about the resolution on consoles?

AlStrong from B3D & GAF delivers the goods.

hm...

I guess the only thing that's changed is the post-processing (mentioned by the developer to be SMAA T2x), although I think only the one shot from LoT managed to show the temporal AA ghost, which may indicate just how good the algorithm is at eliminating it if all the screens so far are an indication. *shrug* I haven't quite seen the usual temporal 2xAA shade (MGS4/Reach).

The texture res differences in their comparison are curious. Did C2 have texture streaming issues? I can't remember the face-offs (+don't have the game).

Deleted the beta (PS3) after 30 mins of play. Looks even worst than PS3 BF3. Sad coz gunplay feels solid, reminds me of Killzone 2.
I would totally buy a Crysis Triolology Collection for next gen consoles at 60fps 1080p. Do it Crytek pls.

Tried the beta on PC over the weekend. Had a lot more fun than I expected. Runs pretty well, so this just pushed me to finally preorder it.

I hope you realize that the resolution is actually much MUCH higher than every PS2 game ever made not to mention the much higher level of detail. It doesn't look great but your hyperbole is way off base here.

Awesome replies everyone, Ill give those settings a try when I get home! Im getting about 50-70+ fps in most areas with settings on high +textures on very high and 2x SMAA. Thanks all!

I'm trying to check this out now but I've just been sitting in lobbies for the past 30 minutes. It always says 'waiting for 1 more player' even when there are 16/16.

Anyone know what the deal is?

Crytek can never get their matchmaking right, it seems. I really want this game to succeed, but if it ends up being like Crysis 2 from a technical standpoint, then I really don't. Company with the best visuals in the industry and they can't do basic matchmaking shit that Halo 2 did in 2004.

Anyone who can give me a hint on why the beta freeze each time at 99% at the loading screen. The game just freeze completely and I gotta hit task manager to close it.

I have been bitching about r_colorgrading for sometime. Don't see why anyone would use this if they have a good monitor. This command and other command bork your colormangement settings. Thank god sweetfx and 3rd party programs exist to make the game look more vibrant like the real world does instead of that nasty blue or green tinge they add to everything.

Really? Color grading is a technique commonly used in film to achieve a specific tone for a scene. Whether you like the end result or not doesn't change the fact that it has nothing to do with the display you are using. Disabling it is basically eliminating the original artists intent for the scene.

Yes, i was testing all settings too in game :) I was quite suprised that SSR on Water is unrelated to metal tech from C2 and its on even on sys_water 1.

SSDO gave You same performance as SSAO? For me it was the most performance hungry cvar i've tweaked in game.

You know that Crysis 1 doesnt even get 60fps on a modern GPU at 1080p

Hmmm...what's up with those nasty outlines that appear around the world in darker areas? They seem to flicker in and out of existence depending on where you stand. It looks absolutely awful. Surely it must be a bug related to the beta and not a "feature".

First Crysis game, not sold on it. Seems like a generic military style shooter.

And people being cloaked all the time, so dull. I can go only a few minutes before getting assassinated.

Have not bothered with the beta yet, but wow at some of the impressions. Crysis 2 actually looked pretty damn snazzy on the PS3 and 360, and played great as well. What happened?

Played this some on PC. I really, really suck at the game, but I'm excited about how well it runs on my GTX 570/i5-2500k rig. I'll pick it up for the single player (where I'll still suck but at least it'll be less humiliating...)

I think the vegetation eats up a ton of resources, which would otherwise be used for other things. That's why Crysis 2 looked better in so many ways.

They could add more fidelity and fancy stuff with Crysis 2's theme, because it required less geometrically detailed scenes.

If you compare the Airport map on PC and consoles, you can see the console version has less vegetation. Not just less detailed vegetation; The console version is "missing" entire trees in the middle of the map.

I really wish this game looked/ran better on PS3 because I actually find the crash site mode fun. I like the verticality in the maps and I like the general movement of your character, combining fast paced gunplay with Halo style jumps.

But the engine this time out looks slightly UE3-ish to me. And the framerate feels like it's a steady 25fps. These games need to come out on Orbis/Durango. Kind of wish they would have held back on this till this Fall as a next gen launch title.

Are there quite a few hackers or is it just me? Feel like I've run into a bunch today. Otherwise quite enjoying this game, will probably pick it up day 1.

Played the MP beta for the first time on PS3.

Deleted it after a match. Looks fucking hideous and holy shit at all that info thrown into your face, too convoluted.

Game looks fun but yes, this looks absolutely worse than Crysis 2, how is that even possible.

Would anyone happen to know if I can just use radeonpro for the Vsync forcing, rather than d3doverider?

E: yeah, it works all the same
