I used to love how they would go outta their way to get Erica Durance into those crazy outfits. It was great.

Like Jennifer Garner in the first few seasons of Alias...

I think I just got depressed realizing we will never have another Lois Lane dressed in bikini outfits, stripper stuff etc

Durance was one of a kind, I miss Smallville badly now lol

*yes I'm shallow

"Clark is fighting his boner hard in this one. lol "

Honestly... I think that's all Welling and not him acting as Clark lol

I remember seeing these set photos when they were first published but didn't really pay that much attention to them since MOS was still way off my radar but given the recent toy descriptions of villains someone on SHH posted a link that explains whats going on in this scene:

Here's there link explaining the scene:

It's interesting that going by the set photos and toy descriptions that there
are 4 confirmed Kryptonians Superman encounters with Zod, Faora and Tor-An and the unnamed female in the scene above. Rumour is that a fifth Kryptonian is supposed to be apart of Zod's group being Dev-Em but it's possible he could be with Zod on Krypton and not Earth.

Really? it's Superman, you don't need to spend $4m to get a 30sec SB spot, when you can take the money and get more commercials on several channels...

Unless your last superman film was a turd and you need to kickstart a nationwide conversation that exists outside of message boards and comiccon.

Pretty much. People need to know why they should give a shit about Superman again, and Super Bowl would have been a great opportunity for such a campaign.

GAF Hyperbole at its finest.

Here's some facts:

The last superman movie was a turd.
The nation reacted with a collective meh.
The Superbowl is an effective way to reach a huge mainstream audience.
The Superbowl spots are a massive discussion locus. The single biggest consumer discussion of advertising that ever happens anywhere.

So seriously, what hyperbole are you talking about, and don't you see the irony in compounding "hyperbole"with "at its finest"?

I think it's more that Warner Bros feels the last Superman trailer (in front of the Hobbit) made enough news/kickstarted enough conversations on its own that now they don't have to spend the extra two million. Maybe. I don't actually know, but I'd think that could be a possibility.

the word-of-mouth on that trailer was REALLY good.

Perhaps. But despite exceptionally to moderately successful films, Marvel still felt the need to advertise The Avengers during Superbowl.

It's possible that MoS will have an awesome campaign kicking up in the following months, but a Superbowl kick never hurts, unless you're John Carter.

"Need to kickstart a nationwide conversation"?

You think when the time comes, people aren't gonna know that a Superman movie is coming out? When the time comes to start plugging the movie, WB is gonna do that in force.

Besides, I know a plenty of people "outside of message boards & Comic-Con" who are well aware of Man of Steel. This is because they "had friends who had it on their Facebook walls/Twitter TL/saw it on my favorite blog" etc.

True. Now we're getting into playing fantasy marketing director, but it's also possible they're looking to save that 2-3 mil for closer to release. I wonder if Warner's is willing to test the theory that early word of mouth doesn't mean as much, that it's the anticipation levels weeks before the film that really count. They might be satisfied with the buzz generated by the ticket sales they already knew they were getting (Comic-Con, Hobbit) and figure going after the masses on a major scale is effort better spent outside of the Super Bowl circus.

And again - Marvel/Disney doing things one way isn't a guarantee that Warners/DC is going to do things the same way. Their playbooks are obviously pretty different.

All that said: I really do wish there was a new ad to look at.

Yeah and that was a great spot too that made up for a lackluster first trailer and finished with that iconic shot of all the team coming together in a circle and began trending like crazy on Twitter.

It is a huge missed opportunity just given the fact there's no other venue or marketing opportunity to showcase your product to over half of the population of the US in one spot, not to mention you'd think the headlines would write themselves "Super spot for a Super bowl!" but alas.

EDIT: Out of curiosity I looked at WB YouTube page and the MOS viewer count as I think the last time I checked it was over 11 million. Now...it's the second most watched video on their page with almost 27 million views just behind TDKR's final trailer.

Stop hating on Routh, he was the best thing in SR. I wish he was in this one too! oh well.

He was stuck in a shitty cosplay Superman movie and was supposed to be an older "Reeve" The hate stems from that. It's all Singers fault. No one would see this movie if he were still Supes imo You see Routh and Returns pops up in your head and you expect the Williams score etc You can't reboot the franchise from scratch like this one with the same actor and start over.

Also Routh wasn't given much to work with. Hell he even repeated some of the same lines Reeve said as Supes.

Also when people say Cavill looks older and more like a man, it's fact. I don't consider that hating on Routh.

Also the best thing in Returns was the music lol

The man also looks like a greek god. I hope his acting is good enough though, from the short bits in the trailer he seems to be very naturalistic but not charismatic.

Even though he's not using his fake American accent, find some footage of him acting on youtube in the Tudors. The man acts circles around Routh and he was charismatic on that show or maybe that's just cause he's British :P

From the scenes of him in the trailers, they don't really show any parts where he would have to come off as charismatic imo

I really liked Routh. People are going overboard in dumping on him, but I admittedly think Henry looks more in line with what I'd expect from Superman.

You're calling your opinion that a movie was a "turd" a "fact." That's hyperbolic nonsense that anyone can easily write off.

The movie made $400,000,000. It did better than Batman Begins in terms of gross, but it wasn't the mega-hit it "should have been." the movie was reviewed rather well. It has far more varied an audience reaction than haters like to admit.

I loved it.

to be fair ...batman begins was one of those movies that set up the current climate for comic book movies... Superman Returns almost killed it...we all knew the plot 30 mins in...its just like...how did you copy so much and STILL MISS ON EVERY LEVEL. geez i had no problem with routh but the producers/ director/writers....what a joke that shit was.

It was also one most if not the most expensive movie at the time, if the movie made any profit adding that plus the marketing it was very small.

edit:sorry stupid double post.

It cost about $204 million to make, although many have claimed it was $270 million or some nonsense in order to pile on extra negativity or bad press. Most major comic book films since have cost more (Spidermans, Batmans, Avengers, etcs). X-men 3 cost more to make at around $210 million.

Returns wasn't incredibly profitable but it wasn't a box office failure or anything.

FACT my opinions are the best ones. For example. Speed Racer is terrible. Sean Connery is the best Bond and JJ Abrams worst excesses are better than George Lucas's most subtle gestures.

ahh was hoping for one a little sooner :(

Yea I kinda have to admit April seems kinda late imo since the movie hits June, but wtf do I know. Hope that site and it's source is wrong.

Maybe they plan on going full on onslaught from then on.

That's a fair estimation. I mean, if they were doing a February ad then a cut-down superbowl spot would've been a guarantee.

I guess I was expecting March and then tv ads and other stuff leading up till June.

I never really believed they would have a Super Bowl ad, though I think they would had if that 2nd trailer wasn't such a huge hit.

Sorry to bring it up again, but I still think that was a missed opportunity. There were trailers for sequels such as Star Trek and Iron Man, so why not one for Superman? Those movies are already established, whereas this WB needs to show that this Superman is very different from Returns, and that it's going to be action packed and exciting with buildings being tossed around and what not. Oh well.

And don't give me that saving money crap, a couple million should be nothing to these studios.

Oh I agree they should have (hell he's SUPERman, it even fit for the game hah), but I still didn't believe they would. WB makes me smh sometimes.

Am I the only one that feels like the suit would look better if the bracers were red as well?

The artist in me would hate it. Blue and red are really difficult to pair up, I think it's only stuck around since they're pretty much synonymous with the character. The two-tone blue is a much smarter (and visually appealing) way to go in my opinion. Two much red on the costume and we're entering Spider-man territory.
