Last boss is indeed poorly designed, especially on higher difficulties. It's the damned falling blocks that makes the fight too luck-based, too easy to box yourself in after getting a string of hits off.
It's not really luck based at all, there's a method to the falling blocks. I don't remember what it is off the top of my head though. I just remember it was a very "doh! really?!" thing.
