Sorry, but I find this rather dumb, and horribly inconsistent. I would also present the case which says they are in a stronger position than the gaming community cares to believe. You haven't even touched a PS4 game (nobody on NeoGAF has), let alone seen the console. With that in mind, how can it be a step behind, when the step in question is not even here yet? Also, I would ask whether you own one of the PS360 consoles. If the answer to that question is 'YES', then do you not feel the same about those, or more so, given that the Wii U is much more powerful than both? How about a PC? ALL consoles are behind that, and that includes the PS4. For now, all the Wii U needed was better cross-platform support, and to stay with PS360 games; Later on, it would have to hope for a solid user base, then get PS4/360 successor's games. Please note that many 8th Gen engines have been created with scalability in mind, and developers themselves have confirmed that the Wii U is capable of running them (the UE4s, Frostbite 2s, Cry Engine 3s, even Luminous is scalable to PS3s and mobiles, so it's not unthinkable to say that the Wii U can have it, too) - I was bullied in the past for pointing this out, but it doesn't make what I wrote less true. It isn't a beast of beasts, but still, it's a very efficient and very impressive piece of tech. That Monolith VS Killzone 4 picture on here is both dumb and abysmal form, too, because the flight scene was a cinematic clip VS Monolith's actual gameplay on a title which isn't finished yet. The actual gameplay visuals for Killzone 4 were still very good, but not in a way that it made Monolith's early efforts look terrible, or, Crysis 3, to take another title and something more in line with Killzone's genre.
Also, I would point you to the latest Need For Speed; Here, you can see a noticeably superior version, but if it doesn't do well, it'll be because it was released further down the line after the other versions. That game is also out of the starting blocks for the Wii U, and don't forget, it has to maintain that image quality AND display images on the GamePad, THEN have them working in time - Sometimes, two times the display for its games. This is a very critical point which gets overlooked frequently on the Internet. For Nintendo's own games, one has to allow for the fact that this is THEIR FIRST STEP into HD game development - Monolith's project, 'X', has been shown around here, and I would put it to everybody that it's very impressive for a first/early attempt. At least, the signs there are very encouraging, and they can only get better over time - It's a tragedy for the gaming community that rather than encourage them to continue in that spirit and do better, or even embrace them as newcomers to the HD era, NeoGAF and others instead resort to childish GIFs, hit-and-run posts, trollbait and downright shitting on Nintendo at every opportunity. While it is true that they have more to learn in some of these areas, they are not in a bad shape by any stretch.
I would also consider that not all games HAVE TO or NEED TO push graphics capabilities. Mega Man 9 and Retro City Rampage are every bit 7th Gen Games as Skyrim or Grand Theft Auto 4. The idea that all games do or will is a complete folly and BS, and one would've thought that a site for so-called 'games enthusiasts would get this.
Furthermore, Watch_Dogs is coming to the Wii U and PS4, so we know that it will have the tools to get PS4 games. Many are acting as if the Wii U has already reached its full potential on Day One/Launch Window port jobs, but it's barely scratched the surface. Regardless of what Console Creationists say and their grand delusions, it's an 8th Gen console, and should be regarded as in that bracket with the PS4 and the X360's successor. Those who talk it down and call it '7th Gen, 2005 tech, behind the curve' couldn't be any further from the truth. Ultimately, the games are the most important, and Nintendo is doing much right there - Indie announcements are happening every other day on Twitter, while Bayonetta 2, Lego City: Undercover, Dragon Quest X, etc. are exclusives, and games such as Sonic & ASRT, TTT2 and Scribblenauts have exclusive content. It's a long-term project, and I fully expect it to stay with the others. It should be expected to stay with the others, too. They might not compete later on in visuals, but the differences are more 6th Gen than 7th (i.e., Dreamcast or PS2 - XBox than Wii - PS360), with the Wii U positioning itself at the Dreamcast & PS2 end of the scale (possibly higher than that), and the others at the GameCube & XBox end... and I think everybody can feel more than content with that. Can anybody say with a straight face that the gameplay shots of Knack blew those of The Wonderful 101, for example, out of the water? Truthfully, I don't think anybody can. Certainly, cross-platform houses have no more excuses to ignore it, and if it is, it won't be due to a lack of power, but because they didn't want their games there. Let us come back in 2017-2018, when the Wii U is in its twilight years, and you will see the noticeable steps.
