Where are you from, son? I was afraid that I would need to do that buy my Mexican debit card does just fine!

I'm from Mexico too (Nuevo Laredo) but my NNID is American. I could have used a Mexican account (it's the same content) but it doesn't have Club Nintendo benefits.

But I live like 10 minutes away from the International Bridge, but's it's annoying to go and buy an eShop card.

Why don't you just buy on a Mexican (or Canadian) Nintendo ID you create in addition to your current one? You can still play the games on your US NNID, and purchases will show up in the eShop even when you're logged in on your American account.

I don't think there are currently any Club Nintendo-Benefits associated with the eShop.

Man... I would be more satisfied with my Wii U if I could purchase eShop games more easily. My eShop account doesn't accept international credit cards and I have to go and buy eShop cards to USA everytime I want to buy an eShop.

If only Amazon would sell eShop codes, just like they sell PSN and Live codes.

I have a Canadian NNID and Canadian eShop Account. Don't particularly care about Club Nintendo, but I think I have a US address set for that.

The Canadian eShop accepts international cards.

If you insist on buying prepaid cards, use http://www.maximuscards.com

You get CN points for eShop purchases.

There are benefitis!

I have received Coins for every eShop I have made. The USA account is linked to Club Nintendo.

Didn't know about that. But is the cheap stuff available through Club Nintendo really worth that much extra hassle and expense (gas money)?

Yeah... I just discovered the Canadian method, but unfortunately I already have NNID I want and I really don't want to change it.

On the 3DS, Wii and DSi is easy to use that method because you only change the country in the system settings, but can't you do that on the Wii U, because you can't modify the country in the NNID.

But I think I will Maximus Cards... the extra $4 is the same amount I pay in the International Bridge.

Not really.

But usually when I go and buy an eShop card is because I already have a trip planned to the USA. I think I go to the USA about twice per week.

You could always create a secondary Nintendo ID just for purchasing stuff on the eShop - changing the system country back and forth is easily done and certainly less hassle than buying prepaid cards.

Yeah, I am in Chihuahua, so I go to the US often as well. You need an address in the US to set up the American NNID? I've always been curious about Club Nintendo. Is it worth it? What do I need?

You can use any address, even a fake one. I have relatives in Laredo, TX, so I order all the physical rewards and the yearly Platinum reward to them and then I pick them up.

But if you use a fake address, you can still use the coins to redeem eShop games.

You can use the Best Buy address that they tell you to use if you order online with an international credit card.

Create a second profile and NNID. Use it to buy stuff. Then use your main Mii/profile/NNID to play and do everything else.

So I tried playing Rhythm Heaven Fever on my Wii U and found it near unplayable. The audio lag caused by HDMI is making the timing on the harder mini-games near impossible. Is there any way to output audio over the multi-out like on PS3? I'm holding off on buying Runner 2 until I can figure out what to do.
HDMI doesn't inherently lag. Get a low lag monitor or TV to play rhythm games

Thanks dude. Here's my NNID in case you or anyone else wants to add me: radio_apeshot

Also, anyone that could help me I'd really appreciate it.
Back on launch day I got ahold of a Toys R Us Basic Wii U because I was not able to pre-order a Deluxe Set anywhere else. Once the basic one shipped, I got a deluxe set at Best Buy retail.

I sold the Basic set to one of my cousins, but here's the problem: the camera on the camepad freezes when playing Nintendoland games that make use of it. It works alright when creating a Mii or for video chat. It is only within the game that it freezes, so I don't know what to do.

Anyone experienced or hear of something similar? I was not able to find a fix for it. And I feel bad because my cousin bought it off from me so I could get my Deluxe set. She is a casual gamer so she is alright with Nintendoland but it sucks that it is the only game she and her family play and they can't enjoy the camera feature, even though it is something not too important, it will just freeze.
I was trying it out once and it worked for me for about 20 seconds in a Mario Chase game but then it froze again.

Any help will be greatly appreciated!

Is the Wii U still doing that after yesterday's update?

You guys, the hot pink Gamepad cover I ordered on Amazon came in the mail today. It looks goddamn ridiculous, but it was only like $9. The other colors were more expensive.

It looks like a big Hello Kitty Leapfrog.

xD

Questions for owners.

I want to purchase the Wii U Basic Edition and then buy an external hard drive.

Am I missing out on anything major by not getting the deluxe? Are the console stand and charging dock really essential?

And which external hard drive should I get that really works well with this? I currently have a Western Digital Elements external hard drive that I use for something else? Should I just get another one of those or is there a better, cheaper option? (Hard drive prices have gone up again, haven't they?)

Also, I read that Nintendo doesn't recommend the use of USB flash drives to save game data?

Has anyone noticed any major problems with using a USB flash drive? Also, why did Nintendo use flash for the memory in the console if saving onto it was going to cause problems?

Do I really need a Wiimote to get full use out of the Wii U's games? Is the Wii Pro Controller worth getting? Is it compatible with all the games on Wii U?

Edit: I want to buy a bunch of Wii titles like SMG and Skyward Sword. Does this mean I should get the Wii Mote or are those games now compatible with the gamepad?

If you are getting an HDD I assume you plan to at least get some digital titles.

The Deluxe Wii U's have a digital promotion where every digital purchase nets you points, $10 = 100 points. You can redeem every 500 for 5 dollars. So you essentially get $5 back from every full price (59.99) purchase.

True, but I assume full price purchases will end up using a ton of space (they won't be small titles), and thus the Wii U's existing drive will fill up fast. I'm not sure how many games I'm going to download yet. But I don't want to be limited to a 32 gig hard drive. Also, I'm in the US. Are you sure that deal even applies to me because I thought it was Japan only?

The deal is for everyone who purchases a premium bundle regardless of region.

I bought the basic as I prefer white home consoles. I haven't any external drive yet so can't answer that.

To me the console stand and charging stand are absolutely unnecessary. I'm sure some people prefer these but not me.

The Wiimote is a secondary controller in Nintendo Land if playing multiplayer.

The Wii U Pro Controller is great but not compatible with NSMBU for instance. If you mean the Wii one, then that's not compatible with Wii U (it should be with the U Virtual Console when it launches fully).

You absolutely NEED the remote, nunchuk and sensor bar if you intend to play Wii games. This will add considerable expense but my Wii U is basically a backwards compatible and Netflix machine for the time being.

I'll answer some of your questions. First of all, concerning the basic/deluxe choice, if you go basic the two main things you're missing out are Nintendo Land and the digital promotion. Nintendo Land can be found easily for about 40 bucks so that's not much of an issue. The digital promotion though is very interesting if you are planning on downloading a lot of games and is only available with the deluxe version. For each game you buy, you get roughly 10% of the price in points so a $60 purchase gives you 600 points and every 500 points you get $5 credit in the eShop if I'm not mistaken. Don't quote me on the exact details (I have a basic model) but that's the overall idea.

The rest of the stuff on the deluxe pack isn't very interesting. 8gb vs 32gb doesn't make much of a difference, especially with an external HD. You might want to look into the Zombi U pack too which seems to have a pretty nice value. Else, depending on where you live there's a few discounts at specific places on the deluxe pack.

Wii Pro Controller isn't compatible with all of the games (NSMB:U comes to mind) but it is with most. Gamepad works great though for all games and unless you really want a very comfortable controller, I don't see a reason for getting the pro controller. (this will probably change once smash gets released).

You'll need a wii remote (or an additional classic/pro controller) for the multiplayer Wii U games. On the other hand, any wii game will require a wii remote (and often a nunchuk) if you want to play it on your Wii U. To play wii games, the console basically shuts down and reboots in wii mode, so anything wii u related is inaccessible.

Hope this helps.

edit: Oh and absolutely get SMG. I played that game for the first time ever on my Wii U a few weeks ago and it was simply amazing!

Thanks for the info.

So I have to get a Wii Mote plus a nunchuk. That adds considerable cost. I suppose I should get the Wii motion plus instead of the regular one?

And I definitely will need an external drive at some point because I've read the firmware updates alone have now taken about 4 gigs worth of space.

I wonder, if I hold out, will Nintendo be releasing an SKU with more space?

The real bonus is that the Deluxe comes with Nintendo Land. If you don't care about that (or live in Japan where it's not included) and are planning to buy a hard drive anyway, I would get the Basic. In fact, that's what I did. True you get $5 for every $50 digital game you buy within a year or so on the Deluxe (I forget how long exactly), but that means you would have to buy ten $50 ($500!!) worth of games digitally for that to make up for the extra $50 you spent on the system. I didn't think I'd buy enough games in time to make it worth it and decided my money would be better spent on a hard drive.

Personally I don't see much reason for the cradle. I have an outlet next to my couch so I just leave the gamepad plugged in always anyway.

You would need to buy a Wii Motion Plus remote and a nunchuck to play Skyward Sword, which would of course would also work with Mario Galaxy. I bought mine used for cheap. You can't use the gamepad with any original Wii game.

Edit: As far as hard drives go, I just got one of ones Nintendo recommended to be safe. If your external has its own power source and isn't powered by USB, you are probably safe. But don't quote me on that :).

Yes the Wii motion plus remote is the one you'll usually find in stores nowadays anyway. It's used in a few wii games (Zelda Skyward Sword and wii sports resort) and in the Zelda themed attraction in Nintendo Land so you probably want to get that one.

If you're going to use the Wii U for one or two demos at a time and a few small eshop or VC titles, the basic model is sufficient. System updates included. The 4 GB figure that was thrown around during the launch days is wrong. The deluxe model will give you even more space and that's probably the one you should be getting in your case. That said, You will definitely need an external hard drive if you're going to download eshop full games though whether you have a deluxe or a basic model.

There will probably be future SKUs with a bit more space but I don't think that is happening before a long while.

If you're going to get the console, get the deluxe bundle (or zombi u bundle if you're interested in that game) in my opinion with a wii remote/nunchuk. You'll get a hard drive a bit later down the road when more games start hitting the eshop and Wii U VC is fully released.

Oh and your WD Elements external hard drive will probably work as long as it's externally powered. Some self powered hard drive work with a Y cable. Check this thread: http://www.neogaf.com/forum/showthread.php?t=500517

What games are you planning to get if you grab a Wii U?

I have a deluxe and the 32GB is in no way enough for me, so I got an external HDD. The digital deluxe program is great. I can now get my next purchase at $20 off due to stocking up on codes. You even get 10% back on the total price of a game even if you used a code on it!

:( gamepad only works about 10ft away from my little bedroom, which is useless since it's just a hallway.

I can play in my bedroom, I can search recipes in the kitchen(Hulu is stuttery though, so i can't watch that while cooking...), but I can't use it in the bathroom at my new apartment. It literally cuts out one foot into the room, I blame the hall closet...

I haven't touched the system in a few months due to going through back logs, but I may try to revisit Survival mode in ZombiU and finish NSMBU soon.

I may also pick up Lego City Undercover, which just received an 8.5 from GameInformer. Not too jazzed about the outlet given their horrible treatment of ZombiU since announcement and continuing still after post-release, as well as giving some excessive scores to games like Dead Space 3 (a good game, but 9.75?)

I do need to pick up the Wii titles I missed out on when skipping that system. Have Skyward Sword, but I need to figure out what else is going to grab my interest.

I didn't think the cradle would be such a big deal, but it is. We have it on top of our games shelving so it's like a beacon on Wii U goodness that you can pick up and play whenever you feel like it. Whenever you're done playing, *boop* right back on the cradle for next time.

any work on when the Tank Tank game will be free to play for the States?

I don't know the answer but I was playing the game in 4-player last night and it gets boring so quickly. There's just nothing to it. Imagine one of Nintendo Land's multiplayer attractions being packaged as a full retail release and... you're still not there, because Nintendo Land's attractions are all better than it. The only really fun part of the game is taking the photos at the beginning.

I'm so glad I picked up the Deluxe system for that charging cradle for this reason.

After my little 3DS excursion with all these awesome games, I am officially excited for Monster Hunter during my spring break.

Though i'll only have 1 1/2 months of school left, i'm still debating both for transfarring.
