So what games should I get on Vita?

Here's the ones I would recommend (in no particular order);

Released:
Persona 4 Golden
Ragnarok Odyssey
Rayman Origins
Earth Defense Force 2017 Portable

Also check out these upcoming ones:
Soul Sacrifice
Dragon's Crown
Muramasa Rebirth
Phantasy Star Online 2

Serious question, are there any Sony first party games/franchises that would immediately boost Vita sales for weeks or would it take a heavy hitter from a 3rd party?

Price is Sony's best option. The fact there are so many vita threads and so much conversation about the Vita shows interest. If it was $150 with $30 memory cards then a good number of folks would likely pick it up.

If no one cared, then not even price would help.

As long as Sony cuts the price and has a major franchise release every week this should be sustainable. Maybe they can make back some of the lost revenue on hardware by doubling the price of memory cards.

If a exclusive call of duty game (it's apparently bad but it's cod) can't move hardware in the USA i don't think any game can.
The best "game" that they could promote is probably a psn+ subscription.

For me personally the #1 problem is the outrageous memory card prices. I've been waiting for a cheap Chinese knockoff to to pop up but it hasn't happened yet to my knowledge.

God of war and Gran Turismo. If sony doesn't have a GT vita for the holidays they may as well call it quits now.

A lot of people have been waiting a long time for the Vita to drop in price.
It has a good lineup already, and a rosy future.
Not everyone's going to buy it the first week after a price drop, but this is surely a good first step.
The next few weeks will see a steady flow of mid-tier releases also.

Though I'm very curious as to your reasoning for the "rosy future" conclusion, the bolded doesn't seem all that well supported by the available evidence:
Ok. A week that saw a price drop and the first 2 notable releases in 6 months saw about a 20k increase over the last time the platform saw a notable release( hatsune miku). To me that does not strike me as evidence of much demand for a product.

I'm not sure as to where schuelma got the 20k figure; going by the MC numbers from the week Hatsune Miku was released, we're talking more like 10k (which makes the case even stronger).

Hmmm...well that certainly is a different view from the other day in the Wii U thread when you were stating all the doomed threads should stop.

Im sure you have some reasoning.

edit: not as harsh as I remembered just stuck out in my head how much you can be found in Vita sales thread defending the behavior then to see you in a Wii U thread with nary a word and these couple posts.

Lol the guy much like father brain have an anti Vita agenda. It has been clear for a long time now. And yet they get butt hurt when someone mentions the WiiU.

I think my recent posts related to Wii U speak for themselves. But that's funny, since about a month back, in a Wii U thread, you said:

Just a friendly advice, don´t be so attached to a gaming company, or any other company for that matter. That´s how you don´t get depressed over news that has the slightest, if any, effect on you.

This is genuinely good advice. Perhaps someday soon, you'll actually heed it yourself instead of merely prescribing it to console warriors of different persuasions than your own.

I don't understand why you used those 2 quotes.

The first one speaks for itself when you look at who he is talking to. He called out one user, didn't generalize at all about many users.

And the second quote says something true and I don't see metalslimer simplifying the discussion to doomed.

That mostly depends on your perspective. Some people won't accept that Simpsons image as funny even though it is. Just like some people won't acknowledge that sales this week are pretty good even if next week they drop off a cliff. It's okay on both fronts and I think having a competitor to the 3DS is a good thing not a bad thing.

US retailers don't give a crap about the Vita for two reasons. It isn't selling and every piece of software is available from PSN without them taking any sort of cut.

Yah, its really just a matter of perspectives here. If we see it at the face value, yah its good. Not great, but not poor either. For some people, we are just going into the motion of a system gets a sales boost from a price cut. Nothing ordinary or surprising here.

If we put it to whether it can revive the vita, then its still meaningless, because the sales spike on its price drop week paints the weaker half of the story. We need to see the momentum after these, because what happens after is the main point of the price drop.

I do hear my own advice, and i am not attached to any company, but it´s clear as day that you have an anti Vita crusade that have been month in the making. I don´t even have a Vita. In every Vita thread you write more posts than people who have Vita, it´s funny how dedicated you are to a platform that you don´t own or interested in owning. But by all means continue crapping on every Vita thread. I mean it´s not like people would notice a posting pattern or an agenda or anything.

Ignore list is there for a reason, chum.

hahah this is the thread that I wanted.

hey guys if I think that the Vita won't be able to sustain a baseline higher than 15k after 3-4 weeks, am I automatically categorized as a hater because what I've said is negative towards the Vita? Serious question.

also I'm gonna wait for someone to quote me after 3-4 weeks telling I'm a fool for making such a heinous prediction :(
someone's also bound to quote me saying that at least the Vita is guaranteed to sell more than the Wii U for some period of time.

Have I covered all my bases?

Man, the way you acted on several Sony-not-good-news threads defy this statement. At least that's my impression.

But that's just your style I guess, hahaha.

For whatever its worth, I hope Vita can sustain itself for a long while, since I *think* I will be buying another one (the 1st one crapped the battery, FML) some time in the future in case of the emergence of must-have titles.

Sony has an anti-Vita agenda, but I don't see people labeling Sony as a hater. You'll be okay.

Vita fans trying to be optimistic in the face of terrible sales vs. Nintendo fans/Sales-Age saying that there is nothing to be optimistic about, stop having hope. More or less.

What kinda spin is this?

Vita sales are not terrible (this week) by any means. They seem decent, not great and not bad.

I think its clear there are some people in this thread that would be happy the day that Vita dies. Either that or they are incredibly pessimistic.

Though I would agree theres not much optimism in the Vita's future right now.

YOU HATER!

:)

Really, both sides of the *Ridiculous Team* are... well, ridiculous here. Those who dance in glee and troll if (when?) Vita fails and those who respond to statements like "I don't think Vita will sell well because of...." with "FUCKING HATERS AND FANBOYS!"

Welp, lets hope this trend continues for the sake of the platform and everyone who bought it. It would be a shame to see such nice hardware fail to death.

the guy you quoted nailed it.

last weeks sales were mediocre despite a price drop and stronger than usual software. it doesn't bode well. people have every reason to be pessimistic because Vita's sales are impressively disastrous worldwide.

I can see both sides though. If I owned a Vita posts like this one would frustrate me because I'd have made an investment into a platform that I'd likely be enjoying. hell, it might even brainwash me a bit into thinking Vita isn't in dire straights.

Wow, it's amazing what a little context will do to those quotes. I actually was calling people out for claiming that people are saying that people only think Nintendo is doomed. It was supposed to be in defesnse of Sessler having the right to say something negative about Nintendo and not get the usual DOOM responses from Nintendo fans. Yes, you can probably simplify my opinion as Vita is doomed, but you could not do that to Sessler's opinion. As for the question to Pachterballs, the hit and run one sentence posting led me to believe he didn't actually have much interest in a real conversation about the topic. Say I'm completely insane for believing what I believe, but at least I will constantly try to back up my opinions, and if I am wrong then so be it. But I guess I can see why you didn't actually go through the 2 seconds of effort it takes to post the person I was replying to you because it would show that it is the complete opposite of some pro Wii U anti Vita agenda. It's funny because I've been "called out" for having a negative attitude on Wii U and now I'm supposedly some raving Wii U fanboy out to slam Vita. But like I said, the amount of emotional attachment you seem to have to a videogame device in order to actually look up those quotes and try and misuse them is quite sad.

Lol the guy much like father brain have an anti Vita agenda. It has been clear for a long time now. And yet they get butt hurt when someone mentions the WiiU.

Give me a fucking break. You post in the Media Create threads and know exactly what i have posted about both systems for a long time now, and my opinion has not changed. This is the kind of grand delusion people seem to have when they actually become this attached to piece of electronics. I'm not even going to waste the time to dig up your post history.

I have a Vita and I'm not harboring any delusions of miraculous recovery, nor have I fooled myself into believing last week's 60k is anywhere near acceptable. I don't understand how a healthy person could let his material possessions dictate what he should think.

Besides the blatant "wait for Vita Heaven/E3/Gamescom/TGS" goalpost-moving here, are you saying that fall releases won't be announced until the fall? Huh?

Sure, we'll see new stuff before TGS.
But that's one or two games here and there, in a Famitsu-reveal or something.
When we'll get much handheld content targeted at Japan next time is on TGS. :-/
What's coming winter and onwards. Happen each year. :)
And we'll see more and more 3DS/PSV stuff and less and less PSP/DS stuff each year.

Wow what a nice spike . When the wii U has a price drop it will do the same thing. Maybe even 10x . All that pent up demand. :)

Well, you guys are certainly entitled to your wrong opinion. :)

:P

Certainly one of my all time favorite systems period ...and it hasn't even been out that long

Also, about the release list, am I alone in that I don't need 3+ titles coming out EVERY month?
I have a hard enough time as is catching up with just one. Dare I say, I like the release schedule and if you told me that the system could expect something similar for the rest of it's life, I'd be totally fine with that.
As long as it does get games, I'm not THAT concerned with the frequency of it.

Sony has an anti-Vita agenda, but I don't see people labeling Sony as a hater. You'll be okay.

Looking at the various IP Sony owns, they did release more than 30 games for the Vita in the first year. Sure not all of them were not Uncharted: GA-caliber, but it's not lack of software-support from first party wich has caused Vita's rough start. :-/

These sales, as is, are terrible.

Frankly speaking, any dedicated gaming device not called the 3DS is selling horribly right now. It's been that way for awhile.

Yes it is. Have we seen anything from one of their top studios like Naughty Dog, Sucker Punch, etc. on the Vita? If they really want to make the Vita successful, why don't they let their top studios work on games for their own system?

They're not interested. Western developers in general don't really seem interested in mobile devices outside of iOS/Android. I still don't understand how SCEJ could just let major 3rd party ips like Monster Hunter and Dragon Quest go like that. Multiplatorm is one thing, but entirely exclusive to another platform? That's sad.

There's a decent bit of pent up demand for the Vita worldwide I reckon which has a lid kept on it with its current price.

Good news, but I don't think it will last.

I finally did it.

Bought a 3G model on Saturday. Decided now was the time with Playstation Plus also offering me Vita games, plus there is enough out now for me to enjoy. Not forgetting Soul Sacrifice.

No price cut in the UK yet, but I did get a free 8gb Memory card so I was happy with that. I noticed CEX are selling 4gb cards for a tenner so I think I'll buy one this Saturday to pop my US PSN account on for any demos.

edit - I seem to be slightly in love with Wake Up Party. Despite being a grown man;p

Those guys didn't work on PSP games either and the PSP did fine. Sony has enough studios to support 3 systems at a time so you don't need all their studios to be working on all their platforms.

Hi I'm new here but I've been lurking this forum for a while and I don't understand how Sony threads are commonly titled with obvious hyperbole (ie. "sales see massive spike"), yet other threads don't take the same tone or if they do, they are criticized (or edited) if they aren't more neutral.

Is this a Gaf in-joke I'm missing?

11000 to 60000 isn't a massive spike? New to graphs as well as GAF?

If you look around a bit more you'll find that it's not just Sony threads that have a lot of hyperbole.
