Not seeing what you're seeing. Returns suit looked like a bad Halloween costume. This is the Superman suit. It's perfect.

I've loved this my entire life and this is the first time the reality matches the comic.

that avatar of yours, seems to match the returns outfit more to me. it looks like cavill is wearing some plastic material.

maybe it's the colouring i dunno.

omg he kissing batman

lol Anyone who thinks the Returns suit is better really gives no fucks about Superman.

Ugliest piece of shit, it's right next to Dean Cain on the list of things gone bad in Superman movie/tv history.

I think that's just a bad picture of the suit and it won't actually look shiny in the film.

Yea I was just going to post that. It doesn't normally look like that. Most likely just the picture.

"Dude, I just ate. No Dean Cain references for 30mins."

hah my bad, but the Returns suit is sooooo awful. I'm sorry :(

I feel as if there should be a nod or acknowledgement to Luthor sometime in this film, hopefully at the end - BB Joker style

It's ok, you don't have to like the Returns suit. Nobody's perfect (=

You're a Superman Returns fan, I get that and I have no issues with you liking the film. The suit was ugly as shit though and I can't see how you can defend it. Hell it was so bad in peoples eyes right when it was shown for the first time it started getting photoshopped to hell and back into Batman suits, Green Lantern, Hello Kitty etc It was an Evil Supes suit with a fruit roll up cape.

This is just flat out awful and thats without Singer making it look even worse on film...

Superman%2BReturns%2Bcostume.jpg

lol @ don't take Solo's bomba as anything other than Solo gonna Solo on this film. He will always have his Green Lantern film and you Superman Returns if this sucks/bombs :P I'll go back to watching Reeve and weeping.

Also Amy Adams is attractive, photoshopped or not.

Thankfully, Marvel forcing the Avengers to happens may mean we'll get better superhero costumes. Superheroes are supposed to look larger than life, as opposed to convenient.

I was gonna blame Singer and his X-Men costumes but they were probably inspired by The Matrix.

Man if I were Supes I'd have major issues with wanting a piece of my adopted mom lol Diane Lane still has it.

Penguin, they really do. Really curious to see what Cavill looks like with glasses.

The only bad Xmen costume to me is Magneto's final one in First Class.

I love the First Class & Xmen 1/2 uniforms.

I actually really like the silver/grey suit Routh wore in Returns for two seconds and the deleted scene. Should have just used that haha I know it had no cape and was plain as hell, but it felt so alien and just fresh in a weird way.

"Maybe."

hah

First Class costumes are what we should've had in X-Men 1.

The cast of X-Men 1 isn't that great. The original comic cast had enough visual differences to make them stand out. Beast, Iceman, Angel, etc.

They barely used codenames too. For a movie where mutants are supposed to live in fear and mutants are committing felonies to save the world, they sure aren't hiding their identities.

Everything from that time was about convenience and trying to underplay the goofiness. Hopefully that's over now. Yellow spandex ftw

I'm really curious to see what Cavill looks like as Kent.

Edit: Wait, there are pictures of this apparently.

No pictures officially out yet that I'm aware of that show him wearing glasses. We only had a tease from the comic-con trailer of him putting them on in an elevator. Every other shot of Clark has been bearded or some behind the scenes photos that clearly show him not having glasses on even without the beard.

I thought we agreed to mind wipe ourselves of Dean Cain.

Cleaner version:

the S shield is small and therefore makes Superman look weak.

They look so good as the characters! >.<

I am so conflicted now.... so much hotness....

Different mediums require different aesthetics. Some things translate well and others... not so well. They also called each other codenames a great deal in that first movie, and this is coming from someone who watched Xmen 1 on Blu Ray last week.

Xmen, when done as well as it was in Xmen 2 & First Class, is mature enough that having Fassbender's final outfit in First Class would kind of undermine the sincerity and real-world metaphors for intolerance. He looked like a buffoon. The Xmen honestly don't even feel like a super-hero team that saves innocents as much as they're constantly in a state of interpersonal identity crisis, which is kind of what I prefer. Watching the team hang out at the mansion is more appealing to me than a 20 minute fight scene with the Juggernaut.

lol Anyone who thinks the Returns suit is better really gives no fucks about Superman.

You should see my comic collection & office and then tell me I don't give a fuck about Superman. The suit was fine, stop over exaggerating. You can hate it and not go completely overboard every time it's mentioned.

So, are they just going with no glasses on Clark Kent? That seems....weird.

No, glasses are in this. I just don't think he starts working at the Daily Planet till the end or near the end and that's when he needs them or not until he shows himself as Superman first and then realizes he has to wear them if he's gonna work there next to Lois etc

He could get away with getting around Metropolis etc without the glasses before he suits up so to speak and hasn't met Lois or anyone important in his everyday Clark life.

"I thought we agreed to mind wipe ourselves of Dean Cain."

I'm sorry :(

One last bit about the Xmen outfits:

x-men-first-class-sequel-magneto.jpg

I love, love, love First Class, but I think he looked imbecilic in that helmet at the end. I mean, compared to the Xmen uniforms in that movie or his overall wardrobe in the movie... I wish they had toned it down a tad.

These were much more reasonable/functional while being true to the 60s versions of the Xmen. I hope Days of Future Past gives us a less silly looking Magneto.

Yeah that shit looked bad.

I agree that Magneto costume at the end was laughably bad.

So we agree that trying to go as close to the comics as possible doesn't work all the time, there are definitely some counter-examples. People seem to really like the Raimi Spiderman suit, overall. Chris's costume in the Donner Superman films is obviously up there, but you can't pull that off anymore I think.

I might be in the minority, but as much as I loved the Nolan Batman films I never dug his costumes.

You take everything so seriously when it comes to Returns lol You can be the biggest Superman fan here and I wouldn't care. Heck I'm sure I have just as much Superman shit as you, which really doesn't matter in the long run. You chose to take my little rant about the suit "personally". The suit is shit "IMO" and I don't go completely overboard every time it's mentioned ( I leave that for the shitty actor off that tv series who's name I won't mention again)

I do happen to get annoyed when the Returns suit is compared to the Man of Steel suit or the original Reeve suit which was why I made that comment.

^ I didn't care for Fatman Begins suit at all or at least the cowl. Felt they improved on the suit thankfully in the Dark Knight.

I'm not taking it personally as much as I'm flat-out telling you this:

It's getting annoying. Stop ranting about it.

Okay so then lets flip it around, I find your love for Returns and it's suit annoying. You made your comment to me "not everybody is perfect" about me not loving the suit. So I replied to you.

People have a desire to still bring up Returns/Smallville/Lois and Shit etc in here and everyone has a right to voice their views on all of it. If you find me annoying, use the block/ignore button.

I'd rather the thread just be all Man of Steel, but that's not working when you get pics of JGL bench pressing or conversations about X-men suits etc. I don't want to see talk about that since it has nothing to do with this film, but I don't say shit... so whatever.

I get what you're saying, but in a movie, people want to see X-Men saving the world. The last act of X-Men 1 was a bunch of people in dark suits wandering around in the dark. Then Wolverine fights Mystique. Jean Grey gets hit with gunk and Cyclops tries to clean the gunk. Storm had a cool moment when she flew that one time and used lightning. Then Wolverine fights Sabretooth, then Wolverine fought the large spinny thing.

I thought X-Men 1 was the greatest movie ever when it came out. In retrospect however, they didn't go far enough with the comic book inspirations. Even if the battles and character development remained stilted, they could've looked a lot better.

Avengers downplayed Hawkeye's costume but gave him glasses to help him aim (or something, I don't know). He doesn't even wear the glasses.

What I liked so much about First Class is that while their mutations weren't apparent, the costumes were customized for their powers. The closest to the original trilogy was Cyclops's visor, Wolverine's claws, and Beast/Colossus's vests. Other than that, boring costumes.

Iceman using ice armor was a highlight in X3 was nice.

Magneto's final look in FC didn't go far enough. It should've been made of metal, and had little pieces that flew off when he wanted to fight, a la his prison break in X2. It was still stuck between that and the Singer suit.

Captain America's helmet didn't go far enough either. Where's the helmet wings, man?

The full Magneto helmet actually looked well done. Its just really badly lit in that scene and the angle they shot the reveal from was bad.l Also matching up the rest of his costume to Magneto form X1 was silly. Full cartoon or nothing IMO.

Yeah, his Clark Kent costume evolves a bit in the film.
